The Shijou Saikyou no Teishi(World's Strongest Disciple): Kenichi Thread

For the record the name of the anime is

HISTORY’S Strongest Disciple Kenichi

I’m watching it on Youtube right now.I guess compared to other Japanese anime this is a very soft anime. No super exploding heads,or blood, but its still a nice anime if you like the traditional underdog story.

Anybody know how to unlock more characters?

I found the Arcade mode. You fight 10 fighters.

I also found the tutorial, and versus modes, but I have no idea what the other modes are.

EDIT

Nevermind.I just unlocked all of them except for two by beating Story mode.

You unlock the guy with the purple hair by beating survival (10 wins) with all the people with gloves on thier hands (pretty much the bottom half of character select) and you unlock the last guy by beating survival with kenichi(main char) after purple hair guy is unlock. And I really need to learn some names with these guys

A combo Exhibition has been uploaded to youtube.

Demon Dash bring this to Fighter’s Day 3 please, i’ll give you a few games on it.

im also watching this on youtube but i cant find episode 12 with sub T.T

Nice combos
I got the game today but my dad took the ps2 from me so I’m out of luck for now.

Okay,what the shit.

Can’t unlock Odin.

I’ve beaten Story mode, unlocked all of the primary characters, beaten Score Attack mode with everybody to unlock illustrations, and I’ve lasted over 20 survival mode rounds with Hermit(Dude with the hoody, blonde hair, and Kenichi’s rival of the series)and I still haven’t unlocked Odin.

Anyway,I’ve discovered some combo’s with Hermit. His 236+Weak punch cross kicks can be exploted to all hell.

You can do a basic

WP>WP>WP>Crosskicks>WP>WP>WP>Cross-kicks>WP>WP>WP>Cross-kicks> into the red kanji mode thing>super, and that takes down about 70% of the bar(Maybe a little less).

I know other people have explotiable thing’s since it is such a simplistic game, but I thought I’d point that out.

Thanks :wgrin:

I can already tell this game is very broken. But it is still damn fun.

Ok I messed around with this and atm I’m not 100% fond of it yet. My gripe is that the game is mainly based around command strings in which there are two ways to get out of them: 1. Timed counters 2. Timed jabs. The fact that you can’t duck is weird too and blocking low seems to be automatic, what hell? Side stepping doesn’t seem that strong unless you double step in the same direction really quickly.

Maybe I need to spend more time on it. I like the guard breaks as it adds allows for mix play plus you can bait reactions with some blocked strings. Plus the character selection is nice as ever character is individual plus the game looks nice too.

It really is a simple game, like simple as in made for little kids that want to get into fighting games simple. You don’t have to hold back to block(Just stay neutral). There are basically no low attacks, since you cant crouch, and it is already super easy to counter.

I expected more, but what the hell

Getting out of combos is more than just counters/jabs. You can counter out of the last few frames of blockstun, you can sidedash away from your opponent, you can techroll (which makes you completely invincible to anything for a lot of time, plus teching is very lenient in this), etc.

This game is very much like a simplistic Virtua Fighter: attacking beats grabbing, countering beats attacking, grabbing beats countering. Long combos and command strings are a mainstay of both games too.

Neutral guarding isn’t anything new either, Tekken has it and so do a few other 3-D games that try to mimic its style. You just have to get used to it.

Sounds more like Dead or Alive.

Bingo

All late but I just got my copy of the game! I won’t be home for most of today but I’ll play some later tonight. Again, thanks to everybody for all of the information posted here so far.

I just played that game.
Very noob friendly I think. I won 6-2. Very simplistic…

Gutta trash

Heya was good everyone. I’ve never posted in this thread up until now. But I have been keeping an eye on this game probably longer than most.

I don’t own it yet either but I’m getting it for shizzle.

But anyways here is a great deal of match vids I found on www.youtube.com

Look mom, I’m on TV!

Played mostly Story Mode yesterday. After a training stage when you practice against Miu I got to fight people with Kenichi, beat up some thugs named Ukita and Takeda. The matches in story mode are all one round a piece so far. During the mode at one part I got to play as the female lead Miu who has Cammy’s Cannon Drill. She fought against a skinny girl named Valkerie who was jealous of Miu’s big chest and buttocks. After that with Kenichi I fought a hooded guy named Hermit after falling off a bridge over a freeway, the fight took place on a moving vehicle where you could get a Ring Out by knocking the opponent off the ride! Went to the third training stage to practice a Level 3 Super Art and that’s what I got up to so far. Wish I could play more but by the time I got around to playing it was pretty late in the day.

It took me a while to figure out how to save the game, I kept checking back and kept losing all of the characters I unlocked in Story Mode! Figured it out after messing around with it, I’m glad I remembered the Kanji from playing Namco x Capcom.

The controls are pretty easy to figure out, not too complex. No jumping bugged me at first since I’m not used to it but going up like I usually do to jump will cause a side step so it worked out fine for me and I got used to it after a while.

There’s a block button like Tech Romancer only you need to time it just right to evade the attack. It’s kind of like Dante’s Royal Guard Mode in Devil May Cry 3 with the timing. If your timing is spot on you can get a Just Cancel and hurt your opponent in the process.

I played the game on a Mas Arcade Stick and the controls worked fine. The only thing, there was one mini game where Kenichi’s instructor lit a fire under Kenichi and sent smoke up to him while he was doing upside down situps hanging off the door of the dojo or something like that. For this you have to use the right analog stick in a circular motion for him to do the situps. I couldn’t do this with my Arcade Stick because it doesn’t have a right analog stick so just for that part I had to switch to my handheld PS2 joystick. Luckily the game didn’t freeze on me or anything as you may know sometimes things like that happen when you switch joysticks in the middle of games, sometimes anyway.

There was another mini game, I’m not too sure what that one was about but I think I was balancing jars of liquir or something…

Had lots of fun, I love the graphics and animation. Music’s pretty good, nothing amazing but nothing bad either, sounds kind of like a mix of Rival Schools, Street Fighter EX and just about any random anime that takes place in High School. Anime intro looks great of course. There’s a hell of a lot of dialog in the Story Mode, much more than say, Rival Schools or Tech Romancer but the Story Mode only focuses on the one characer Kenichi for the most part so far and not multiple characters so it may be more or less the same, give or take (but the periods of dialog are much longer).

An early review? Way too early for me to say anything like that but I enjoy playing Super Dragon Ball Z a little better than this game since me being mostly a 2D Fighting game player the controls for Super Dragon Ball Z just feel right at home with me. Still I’m having a great time playing Kenichi right now.

Hey thanks BoringRyu for the Strategy Thread! It helps a lot. And at least I can call the characters by name thanks to that, so much props man!

Can’t wait to get my hands on Hokuto No Ken AKA Fist of the North Star too. Good month for importing fighters. It’s funny how the only fighters that get me excited nowadays are based on manga / anime, Super Dragon Ball Z, Kenichi and Hokuto No Ken. :lovin:
