Like I said though…did that fact that Shiozawa died stop them from taking out the character of Zato/Eddie altogether? No, it didn’t. They just renamed him “Eddie”, passed off that Zato-1 finally kicked the bucket, and let another voice actor take over the reigns.
That’s what I’m saying. If they really wanted to continue Rival Schools, I doubt such a thing as Shiozawa being alive (or not) was a main factor which impeded on the sequel. Probably had more to do with how people didn’t like Project Justice all that much compared to the first game…
Kenichi recently got a 7,8,8,6 from Famitsu magazine, for a total of 29/40. Not bad, but not great. Main points were that the system was pretty good and seemed interesting, and had a tutorial and story mode so that you could get better quickly. Criticisms were that the game doesn’t have a whole lot of characters to choose from and they think the animation could’ve been better.
Especially when Capcom employees lurk on these boards. I got the game a few minutes ago but I’m at work so I’ll have to wait until lunch to try it out.
It feels more DOA-ish than tekkenish.
So far, playing an CPU enemy I don’t have (you start with 2 characters and have to unlock 11 others somehow). Square is low attack, Triangle is high attack, X is special and Circle is the counter button. There are some stages where you could easily be combo’d -> super combo and get ring out (namely the bus top stage). There’s no jumping! Gasp!
Graphics look great, looks like there’s a bevy of single player stuff to do. Figured how the combos work out and it feels clunky. So far I’m not liking how the game is played but I’ll figure things out more clearly later.
reminds me of naruto games on the cube,oh wait i think it wuz done by them anyway.1no crouching(uh?)2crazy blockstun on shit3its got some wily ass BIG damage combos.hmm not 22 bad though.
It’s not low attack, it’s weak and strong attacks, and you can do jump attacks by pressing up with the attack button. R1 gives you aura which lets you access some special stuff… for example, one aura type lets you do guard cancels when activated. Only problem is that there’s a timer on the aura so I haven’t figured out everything that you can do so far.
You can move in 3D too and the side step seems pretty decent I guess. X button lets you do special moves, some of which have chains… so if you choose the default male, Kenichi, he has this three hit combo from his default X attack. Game seems alright so far but one thing I noticed is that there are really only two special attack motions per character, but depending on the attack level you’ll get a different attack. So if you do :qcf: :mp: it’s a totally different attack from :qcf: :hp:
I’ll play more when I get home I guess. It seems pretty cool though, but I don’t know how long it’s gonna last me.
Edit
More impressions
I’m not sure if it’s my timing because of the PS3 buttons, but getting the timing for combos is a little bit more difficult than your average 8ing fighting game. Definitely more difficult than their Naruto games, although not so much that you have to be really quick with your hands. The fact that you have to do double motions with the control pad makes timing stricter. Yes, you can cheat and use the R2 button for supers, but that’s beside the point.
Now, the difference between the two aura modes, Motion (?) and Quiet (?) are that the former can perform special cancels into super combos, and your attack power goes up, and it seems that your guard can’t be broken. With the latter, you can perform guard cancels (QCF+WP), your defense power goes up, and your health regenerates.
Like the Naruto games, you can also break out of any string using your Aura power, but it’s better than KnJ in Naruto since you can immediately go on the offensive instead of just a one hit thing.
