EX Bullhorn is way slower and punishable on block.
Unless you meant EX Bullhead, which is still punishable by some characters unlike Tackle (although still safe in a lot of instances). And it’s still not as fast as EX Tackle, in regards to start-up or forward momentum.
Because birdie hasn’t been winning, yet. Also, birdie gets to keep his st.hk CC full dash in combo I suppose.
Idk if mena can keep this up. Against smug he was jumping a lot and in general he abuses the hell out of reversal bullhead like it’s a dp. Once people catch on he might go the way of phenom.
The difference is that he has pokes whereas Necalli doesn’t.
He also has bad corner defense and was getting pretty owned there.
But with throw loops gone or mostly gone in season 3, that may not be such a problem.
Interesting results nonetheless.
I also think Karin not necessarily being top tier or tippity top tier might be showing itself. Punk has been figured out for the most part but he doesn’t have the pokes to deal with birdie or the AA to deal with Akuma.
You look at a lot of the better characters in the game and they all pretty much have solid AA, save for maybe Urien who tends to win with v trigger.
And SFV doesn’t use GGPO because?
I’m legit asking here, is it something they would need to pay for? is it non viable because of the higher quantity of data a 3d fighter needs? is it that they thought they could do better, failed miserably and went the Japanese developer route of not acknowledging their mistake?
Mena got Abigail waiting in the wings if need be. With that being said there just isn’t many birdie players like him. It might take a while for the comp to catch up.
With the new changes a character like Birdie seems to benefit. I wonder in the extra recovery time will apply to his ex dolphin dive.
I don’t see mena slowing down anytime soon. I mean WTF else is gonna happen when people playing the most fraud rushdown characters are getting timed out. Like that doesn’t happen unless the character has a clear set of tools that you have to respect. This is unprecedented level of neutral territory for SFV where people can barely even unga vs this character. Punk’s Karin couldn’t wall to this level at all.
With medium buttons getting more recovery and larger hurt boxes to them, that’s just going to allow Mena to clip whiffed buttons and buffer s.MP even easier. If they ever decide to reduce the input delay, then it’s definitely a wrap. The only thing they did to Birdie’s s.MP according to the patch notes is fix the counter hit collision issue which effectively buffs it.
Command grabs aren’t going to stop landing anytime soon and throw loops getting nerfed buffs Birdie’s defensive back throw. Saw plenty of matches where Mena was back throwing Smug out of buttons and overheads and putting Smug in then corner. There’s so much crap in this game that makes your hurt box huge when you do it and sets you up for defensive throws. Particularly vs the characters that have larger throw range.
Agreed. Birdie doesn’t have that many bad matches and his bad matches are not too too bad. Plus he’s got frame 1 armour reversal if he feels the heat too hard and top tier screen contol.
The one thing is I don’t know the value of playing both at least tournament wise. They share mostly all the same winning matches for much the same reasons and birdie loses the losing matches less hard.
Tbh I just see mena as the another punk who just going through his dominant period, knuckledu also had one near the beginning of the games lifespan when guile came out. Once people start to catch up, you won’t see mena be as dominant as he is at least.
Yeah it’s going to change eventually inevitably, but it’s not going to slow down for months at the minimum. It’s definitely another strong trend like the Punk or Nuckledu one. He’s going to be on the saddle for a while.
For right now though, I don’t see what’s going to work other than playing something that walls out Birdie like a Guile, Menat or Nash. The rushdown characters just don’t have the buttons to deal with Birdie long term and his defensive back throw is really good. So many normals and specials make your hurt box huge when you do them and he can just fish for defensive back grab before they go active and throw you in the corner.
I always thought in the back of my head that the only way for Ibuki to beat Birdie was to catch a lucky fish vs a button and hope he doesn’t get back up, but that seems to be completely true now for her and the other rushers/CGers. Unfortunately he has more ways to get back up and stop pressure than people care to bring up. You’re just not going to anime setplay him down consistently.
He and Gief are what the game needed to wall out all of the quick round ending rushdown that people complain about. Just nice that he can do it himself if he gets a good spot also. I’m sure Pertho is clapping everytime Birdie wins.
Don’t know if I agree with that. Du was second or third in points before he flat out just stopped competing. Du kind of stopped himself really.
Not saying that Mena is going to keep blowing everyone out, but I can see him having a similar year as Du did the 1st half of season 2 and really cementing himself as the upper echelon of SFV players.
