The SFV Lounge: MUTINY!

This made me feel better, thanks.

I guess I could always try to dive into Fighterz or BBTAG again. And I was just thinking about how there isn’t anything on the horizon other than Strive, and there’s no hard set release date on that yet. I am really excited about it, tho.

As someone who plays Samsho, Granblue and DOA6 online on rotation, i disagree.
I consistently get plays on those games, not as much as DBFZ, but there are people playing them and you can find matches rather quickly, or in the case of GBFVS, find lobbies that are full of people.

I give you UNI, but that is mostly because the netcode is kind of ass, so most people who play the game settle to play it with people near to them instead of trying to play dice on how ass their connection will be against some random.

People just don’t know what a “dead fighting game” really constitutes as. I feel like a lot of people just use that as a blanket term for whatever fighting game they don’t currently follow.

Dead fighting game = any game I’m not interested in

Really? People are playing DOA6? Coulda fooled me man but I’ll take your word for it. Granblue to me falls under the blanket of games that got severely hurt by covid, if that game hadnt gotten its roll slowed it would be a lot busier than it is. In america, especially the west coast, there’s very few people playing that game and you gotta really dig around to get matches

I think people call dead anything that requires the consious effort of finding people to play with instead of waiting in an online queue.

I personally never used matchmaking since due being an old fart that prefer local over online, uses the next best thing that is find people to play with who i dont have an ass connection :man_shrugging:

So, for me all games are “discord dead”

No dead means you can’t just que up in ranked.

Every community that still plays their games is fake and should just stop.
I had someone who was super mad at me for not playing Tekken, but instead “wasting” my time with these dead FGs without real people.
“So I can’t just play ranked and get people? Game is dead and a waste of time.”
Me after 500 hours of Central Fiction.

If we talk about presence, yes, it certainly got hurt, since it didnt get enough tournament exposure
I wouldnt be surprised if the game gets re released to try to get the ball moving once again.

The community for DOA has always flocked towards online due how DOA has never really been supported much by offline tournaments, due the stigma of tits and ass, and only being more serious with their mechanics with 5 and 6.

Add that is in a weird position where it has its online scene, but the fuzz about it kind of slowed down once Koei Tecmo announced they stopped support.
Compared to DOA5 that had support for years, at least for costumes and ocassional characters.

Also, some felt that the game was releasing old chars as dlc killed some of the hype behind it, specially for casuals, since they wouldnt really care that those models are more detailed or that the engine is different, when the differences are only evident in specific places.

I fall into this camp. If I gotta get on discord to find a good connection, I consider the game “dead” on a macro or online sense. But games have scenes for sure, and depending on how passionate you are and how willing you are to invest time into organizing or looking for games, you’ll be able to find it.

There was a really healthy VSav and PlusR scene in my city. A lot of people would say that those are “dead” games.

I wouldn’t of been such a negative nancy if locals were running. But the toss up if a connection will be serviceable, and having to deal with the general slog that online play can be gets exhausting.

edit: I keep on considering picking up MK11 despite it looking like butt to me cause @PlusFrames plays it and he’s a real homie lol
Plus we have a really good connection on PS4 99% of the time

Jesus that was fast

Considering that you come here to get matches, i find the notion of having to use discord a negative to be hilarious.

Also, call me crazy, but leting the game pair me with mostly randoms that use wifi and make the experience worse for everyone is not something i want to do.

Edit

And then add that i usually play with the chat on with most of my friends, so we can trashtalk each other.

FGS have been for most of the time a social experience, and playing matchmaking takes away that.
Is only you and the screen, with the occasional hatemail at best.

I see. Maybe things are different where you live but to be faaaaaaaair I also have not exactly looked closely for the DOA scene in my area. I feel like Southern California is a very fickle area for fighting games, people pick games up and let them go pretty fast

Alex is my second best character

Ideally you want both imo.

I can see why people would like to play randoms every now and then instead of sticking to the same 5, 6 people all the time.

yo, I said the same thing more or less

I can see what you’re saying, but I like the general set-up here a lot more than discord. All I have to do here is jump on the site, come to this thread and say “Anyone wanna play insert game here
With discord, I gotta find the invite to the server, find the correct match making tab, etc.
But whatever, man. We all have our own weird ass habits and preferences :woman_shrugging:

edit: I also VC with people when we play here. I don’t know some random discord person, I don’t wanna jump on the mic with them. Like I won’t feel bad telling Volt that he’s doing some bullshit, and he sure as hell won’t feel bad telling me. Trash talking a stranger can get uncomfortable real fast

I understand that it can seem as a hassle, but at the end is not really that different from forums.
Usually those discords have their links on the reddit and facebook groups, so is not that difficult to get them, imo.

And discord is not the only option, you can use facebook groups, reddit, etc like you do with a forum.

Thats literaly how Discord MM works usualy.
“Anyone wanna play?”
Gets a Lobby Invite/Code thrown at you
“Thank you!!!”

I know you are being reductive for the sake of argument, but most of the time you have more than just 5 or 6 people to play with.

And like i said, the whole thing is about the social experience.
You dont have that with matchmaking.
