I am semi-new, meaning that I’m not new to fighters but still bad at it. Mostly it’s my strategy that’s lacking but I’m trying to unlearn what I have failed to learn. Is there a kind sensei that would take me under their wing to improve my skills?
^ It really depends on you playing a match and learning from it. You have to recognize which areas of your game are weak, and improve upon those.
You have to know how to defend yourself, so as easy as it may sound, practice blocking. Know which of your moves are safe to do and what situation calls for what move. Learn basic combos first, and then once you can pull those off 100% of the time, move on to more damaging combos (which are usually more difficult).
Know your characters strengths and weaknesses as well. For example, Balrog can be played Offensively and defensively, and he deals great damage. His EX moves give him Super Armor, his combos are easy to pull off, and it’s easy to combo into his Ultra.
On the other hand, his wake-up game is very weak and it’s hard for him to get in on characters that zone well.

It’s fairly easy once you get your own style. You need to cancel the jab into these special moves, and any mash move like these requires 5 separate inputs. So you crouch jab, then piano (press different punch buttons with your different fingers) fast enough to get five punch inputs. If you’re on pad then good luck, though.
Yeah, any punch button counts if you drum them fast enough, you can just drum on all 3 punch buttons to get the super-slap or chun-li’s lightning legs.
What’s up everyone? I’m a newcomer to SFIV, I’ve played here and there with SF back the days from SNES and to now. Just an average gamer from Maryland, my gamertag: MartyMartini XBOX. Those of you probably played me either told me I was good or “You still have the receipt to the game?” LOL. But win or lose no hard feelings, just playing is fun for me but would like to get serious as well. Either way, just saying what’s up, and give me a shout on Live and I’ll down to play~ Peace
Is damage you inflict normalized (i.e. everyone takes the same amount of damage) between characters or is it still character specific like in the arcade/online matches?
Everyone takes the same amount of damage, but different characters have more stamina in total so the percentage of their life that a move takes off will be less against Zangief and more against Akuma.
Training mode handles damage the same way as during normal matches.
“Method is simple: Safe jump and perform jump fierce with dp motion + strong + fierce. If they block (or get hit), fierce happens normally. If Rufus EX Messiah, Ryu land and automatically EX shoryu to avoid guessing game situation after blocked EX Messiah.”
