THE SF4 BEGINNERS Thread! NEW? POST HERE FIRST!

I’m having a really hard time deciding on who to concentrate on. All I know is that when opponents put a lot of pressure on me, I have a really tough time dealing with it. I think if I could choose a character that was very strong against pressure I would have a much better time. I’m trying out Dhalsim since he tries to avoid pressure all together but fireball characters give me trouble (though mostly from inexperience :\ ). Anyway, could anyone suggest good picks? Thanks!

Think about how people start the pressure up. For most characters it’s really hard to start pressure without jumping or dashing in, so instead of looking how to get out of pressure/mixup situations, look at how to react and stop the jump-in in the first place.

Also, learn to turtle. Stop pushing buttons when people are at an advantageous situation on you. That’s all I can say cuz your post is a little vague.

Anyway, I have a question of my own, not necessarily SF4 related but w/e. Does anyone know how to View All (or a bunch) of posts written by a certain user? I swear I’ve seen a button that does this on the site but I can’t find it.

any1 know how to save replays? @@
like when i win the final battle in a championship it says upload replay, so i press [A] to upload it but i cant find it anywhere in my replay list @

Hey guys!

I have a really basic question about frame rates (sorry if this was covered in the thread already, everytime I use the “search this thread” option I get a page that never actually loads!):

If someone empty jumps, then there is no recovery involved at all… right? So I could empty jump beside my opponent and as soon as I hit the ground I can tech or block or whatever…

What if someone does a jumping attack and then hits the ground? Is there recovery associated with having preformed that attack, or is any recovery cancelled on land? If someone jumps in with a medium kick and it whiffs, can they still tech/block/whatever as soon as they land?

I’m really trying to learn the mechanics of my first fighting game, and any help would be SO appreciated!

Thanks SRK fams!

Does anyone know how to delete your account on here?

Sorry if it has been answered but I read around and can’t find it…

In regards to the ULTRA/REVENGE meter…

Is there any benefit to filling the meter more than the amount required to do an ultra? Or does the meter just fill past the required amount for no reason?

Thanks

The more the Ultra is filled, the more damage it does. This is so that when you land an Ultra when you are almost dead it does the maximum amount of damage.

EZ peeps,

I’m newish to SFiv but not new to the SF series. Been playin since SFII championship edition, went onto alpha 2, ex + alpha (weird) x-men vs capcom (even weirder!) SF vs SNK (brilliant) and now SFiv which I’m playin on PC and love to bits.

Was maining Ken as used him from the beginning but have ditched him to main with Abel. Don’t normally like wrestler types but love the sheer grab+smash of his style. Just been practising and should be getting online tonight to test out my skills or lack thereof! :karate: Lookin to play against giefs, bisons, shotos and whoever else is the toughest matchup. I’m not afraid to take a kickin!

Pleased to meet you all

Im having a hard time pulling c short c jab into shoryu type of combos any tips for this problem?

I really dont understand whats going on, on kof I can do this with ease and to my understanding the motion in the controller should be the same only probably a little faster/slower depending of each game

tips?

Ok cool thanks man, that is kinda what I thought but good to know for sure.

Howdy everyone!

I’ve been lurking here for around a month trying to absorb all the information I can, and I think I’ve got a pretty good grasp on how the game works. You’ve all been a great help to me in that regard. I figured that If I actually wanted to get better I’m going to have to ask questions at some point, and should therefore at least say hi on the forums.

I’ve lost way, way more matches (and rounds) then I have won. I’d like to say that each loss is a learning experience, but I just find myself getting more and more angry because I keep loosing to the same stupid things over and over. I don’t know how to punish moves appropriately, I keep forgetting to block high on jump-ins, I freak out whenever someone rushes me, I can’t tech throws, I don’t know what to do after a block string, … the list goes on (and on and on) sadly.

I’m gonna keep reading character pages, and watching videos. Thanks for all the help so far guys, hopefully with some more I can actually get more then 4 wins online.

Hey, I’m new. Nabby Cammy. Trying to learn stuff but link combos are still impractical online for me. Any UKers up for a few rounds? I hate the championship mode. Best of 3 rounds is just not enough. Ends just as you figure them out. And god don’t get me started on Ranked match players.

I was gonna make a thread to whine but apparently I can’t. Anyway, nice info here :x

how do i rep somebody?

There is a 2 frame recovery period when landing after a jump, regardless of whether or not the jumper attacked or not. The jumper is vulnerable to throws during this recovery phase, and is immobile (he can’t jump, walk, or dash until recovery finishes).

The recovery of an empty jump can be cancelled into a block, any attack, or a throw.

u can only view replays if your championship points are more than ur last replays cp’s i think…

If you can combo c. short into c. jab, but the SRK isn’t coming out, Try slowing down the inputs of your normals a bit.

The game doesn’t allow you to cancel into a special after a chain combo. If you hit c. jab too soon after hitting c. short, the jab animation will chain and interrupt the short kick animation, and the game won’t let you cancel into SRK.

You need to link c short into c jab, and then cancel the jab into SRK. What this means is that you have to wait until the c short finishes recovering, but hit c jab before your target has time to get out of hit stun.

lol i wish I had a stick but money is pretty tight now and the ALL the stick prices have gone up. I’m just not willing to pay that much for a fuckin controller. maybe I’ll buy the genisis style pad and see how that goes (if there are anymore).

you’re hitting with too light of an attack or you’re hitting too high up in the air if you’re getting reverse shoryu’d. either use heavy punches/kicks or wait until you’re closer to the ground before attacking. if they keep doing it, just hit them once and start blocking, then hit them when they hit the ground.

what happens with a reversal shoryuken is the game says you have inputted the command for an SRK at the very first moment your character can actually perform the SRK. the easiest way to do it is to just mash the stick into the bottom corner and hammer out a punch button, but it’s super scrubby and will get you killed when people catch on.

gotta buy premium, and gotta get out of the red
