THE SF4 BEGINNERS Thread! NEW? POST HERE FIRST!

i love that the game is bringing for people in the community

Hi guys, wanted to introduce myself. Well I am from Bulgaria im 19 years old, currently studiying in an university externally while looking ofr a job. I love video games, especally fighters. My favourites are KOF, SF4, SF2. I’ve been playing SF4 a lot lately since i got it for my pc and i’ve already been in three tournaments in which I performed really well (my best result was 2nd out of about 25 people). I’ve never been much of a community person in the past, because in Bulgaria the whole community is spread in tiny groups which only play with eachother, but that will change soon. I really hope I can help the community in any ways I can and ofcourse compete with the real pro’s and improve my skill.

Thanks for the info

I’ve been making some tutorial videos for 2d fighters in general, though it ended up being from SF4’s viewpoint.

I’ve only been playing SF4 since the PC launch, but I’ve played 2d fighters for a long time. Grinding through G3 and G2, I noticed some really bad habits a lot of players have that showed me how many players don’t understand the basic mechanics of a 2d fighter, which was my reason for making these tutorials.

Part I is super basic and explains hitboxes, startup frames, active frames, recovery frames, zoning etc.

Part II is edited better (was learning Premiere as I did this) and covers more useful stuff, though if you are really new to fighters you should probably watch Part I as well.

Feel free to critique or point out anything that isn’t helpful or straight up wrong.

Well, just because combos require “insane amounts of control of the stick” doesn’t mean you can’t do it. Lots of people can. But no amount of reading on forums will make your hands move physically faster and more accurate. Only muscle memory can do that. Which comes from…training. Just like learning to play piano. You may know all the Beethoven theory from books, how to read notation, but unless you do the actual play training, it’s worthless.

But training with a purpose is the big thing. Don’t just hop in training mode and mash for 2 hours with no purpose, or play your little brother with no clue. Decide to learn something specific with a specific character, and do it constantly until it’s boring, then do it some more.

Even do actual online matches where you don’t focus on winning, but to do something specific a set amount of times during the match, like dragonpunch FADC into ultra. If you lose, no big deal, find another match. Human players move different from the CPU players.

Hello everyone, I just started Street Fighter about 3 days ago. I’m brand new to it in general, aside from messing around as a little kid on SNES. I’m also knew to fighter games using a 360 pad, since I’ve only played Smash and MvC at arcades.

I'm practicing Crimson Viper and since not many players are on the PC version that I can find I usually practice against the AI on "Hardest" setting. I'm having a little trouble figuring out something to do with Cammy's spiral attack, and I didn't find it on the matchup list for that character, maybe I'm just blind or my face is murdered with how much text I've read today. Any suggestions? (I've researched most of the terminology so don't be afraid to get complicated.)

EDIT:Wow I’m blind. I have a hard time making the weak BK work though? Seems to knock me out of everything.

I’m also just naturally horrible at Abel lol.

You really don’t want to practice against the computer, it will develop really bad habits. Try doing arcade challenge for championship mode, there are plenty of people once you get out of G3 (I’m also on the PC version,) I rarely have to wait more than 20 seconds for a match.

Just block Cammy’s spiral attack; a lot of new players always think they need to beat x move out with y move. The correct solution is more often to just block the move and punish.

Hi. I’m Nano5896. I’m a big fan of the Street Fighter series. I got nothing else to say.

I have never been a big fan of fighting games mostly because I suck pretty bad at them, but just recently I bought SFIV and am having a really fun time with it. As well as I have been learning a lot from this amazing site I seem to have improved somewhat (but a beginner could still kick my ass).

Next stop, buying a stick…

Thanks again for all the info from all the members, mods and admins!

Boy do I suck at this game, I can only beat Seth with only 3 characters.

Hi all. Newbie here :shy: Just got myself a copy of SFIV and a HRAP3 and I’ve had a blast practicing B&B combos in training mode. Thats all :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for putting in the effort to make this video cos it sure helped me understand the basics. Can’t wait for part III.

Hi! I’m new here! What is the address for me to connect to IRC?

Bringing up my question

C/Ping this from the Viper threads since I want a broad opinion on this if that’s alright:

So…out of curiosity. For just starting fighting games, I don’t suppose C. Viper is good to start with even if I want to main with her? It’s just my performance has been extremely frustrating online… I’m not used to losing so many times straight since starting ICcup on Starcraft when I was a nub =P.

I understand practice makes perfect, but should I start as someone else so I enjoy myself more, or should I just keep playing?

You can’t.

^Keep playing viper, watch videos, get advice from the Viper forums. She’s a technical character, but if you can get her down then you should start seeing results. Also, online != offline. Most of the time you’re probably missing because of lag or lag tactics that leads to further frustration. Join your local scene and try to get tips from there as well

I need some assistance.

This has been going on for awhile now, but now its just frustrating.

For the past few months everytime I have been able to upload a replay in G1 it won’t actually save it to Capcom’s server.

Example. I won a championship today… clicked upload. UPLOADING flashed on the screen. I went to leaderboards to see if it uploaded and it didnt. My old replay which is lower in championship points by 50k is still attached to my name, but even then I can’t view that one. It says “unable to receive data” or something like that.

However when I go into my Championship data screen to see wins/loses it shows my highest championship point win.

So… I think I am bugged… has anyone ever experienced this? If so… how did they fix?

I wasn’t able to post this in general SF4 discussion because I need a min of 50 post first.

I figured since I was a fellow ken player I would be able to get some answers. If anybody can please help me with this it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

p.s. My Original replay was 600k… my new champ win was almost 700k and it did give me the option to UPLOAD… I accepted the upload and it flashed on the screen per usual.

Went to the leaderboards to check my new replay and it wasn’t there…my old replay was there and even then I can’t watch it. Gives an error. I am running on xbox has anybody seen this before?

Do you arcade guys ever find yourself wasting super bars trying to do ultras? 50% of the time that I try to ultra while I have a full super bar I end up launching the super instead. I guess its just a matter of trying different ways of hitting the buttons?

I’ve got it into my head that wiring up macro buttons would be impure, even though I doubt there is an SF4 machine in the whole of Scotland!

I have a question about the shyroken after you block an attack from the air. So you see this often online where you do an attack from the air and once they block it your still trying to finish your combo and they reverse it.

However my question revolves around how to do that reverse shyroken. I can do it sometimes when they try to do a grab after I block their air attack. However I have problems doing it a lot of times. Is there only certain situations u can use it. What I mean is there only paticular spacing where you can pull off the shyroken or can the reversal shyroken be used in any situation where you block the first hit?

is there any definate hitbox data out there. if so can sum1 please link

This thread is exactly what I needed, thanks.
