I got confused by your question - what do you mean by hit?
You can throw someone when they are in the recovery part of their attack.
But you can’t throw someone when they are in hit stun.

Ok, I see.
Thank you both for your replies!
Hello everyone :wgrin:
I’m absolutely new to street fighter 4 (and to the whole series actually), joined the fun only with the pc release. I’m slowly getting the hang of it, but trials make my head and fingers ache. First I picked Sakura, trial 1 and 2 - no problem, I can get every move right if I keep trying. But I can’t even pass the very first combo in trial 3.
s.MP xx QCF+P (copied from the Sakura board) - the punch is alright but the fireball seems to come always late. I know the ‘xx’ means something like canceling, but I don’t really know how does it work, so I just try to do the fireball as quick as I can after the punch. Am I doing something wrong or just being too slow?
Another case: Chun-Li. Trial 1 and 2 check, trial 3’s first combo (heavy kick > flurry kick) seems easy enough. I go up close to Dan, mash hk as fast as I can, but it still doesnt work out.
So, can you tell me what I do wrong? Any advice’d be appriciated :looney:
PS: sorry if this question has been answered before, but this thread is a bit long to read
I play Sakura too.
She my Character.
For first part of Normal Trial 3; s.MP xx Hadoken.
I use Hard Punch for the Hadoken.
It just seem easier.
You don’t do the Hadoken after the Standing Medium Punch.
Do the QCF during s.MP, then hit the Punch (MP in my case).
Another way that works is with Negative Edge.
When do the s.MP, hold the MP.
During the s.MP, you do the QCF.
Then when finish the motion, release MP.
You will get your 2 Hit Combo.
just wondering…
when you are linking combos, are you pressing the second attack more than once, maybe 2 times, or do you just know the timing well enough to press it once?
If im not clear:
c.lk,c.lk. I press that button 3 times. Normal?
Quick question,
In the arcade version of the game. What do you input to get the white color outfit for Akuma? Or rather, what are the different button presses for the different colors(So I can just do them one by one and find it myself)?
Thanks!
Yes, it’s fairly normal to press the button more times than necessary to link.
Link combos are fairly strict on timing, so if you practice enough, you really only need to press the button once. However, the game ignores extra inputs if you press the button too early(with certain exceptions), so you can keep mashing it until it links. This is the reason why turbo controllers make most links trivial. Done by hand, link windows are usually small enough to miss in between button presses.
There are methods to avoid this and make sure the extra inputs are as close to possible to each other. You can either double-tap or plink, which are methods covered by some of the stickys in this forum.
Try your best to get in the habit of hitting a button one time for one move. By not mashing and taking the little bit of extra time to figure out the exact timing for things, you will be doing yourself a favor in the long run.
edit: Although I should add that for beginners, some links are VERY hard to perform. I’m not sure where you are at skill wise, but as m16 mentioned above, plinking is definately something to look into, but it’s a fairly tough technique to understand and get the hang of.
Point is though, don’t get discouraged on some of the links in SF4. It’s not just you. =)
difficult to win?sagat …
Thanks man! The second method worked It took a while, but I got it
Is there a ranking anywhere of stage sizes? Which stage is the smallest and which is the biggest?
Hi everyone i’m new here. I heard about these forums from my friend Spencer, but i’ve only bothered joining since i got SF IV PC awhile ago and i’m interested in getting better.
Having a hard time on the steam forums since I linked to this book by Sirlin which someone else posted earlier in this thread http://www.sirlin.net/ptw-book/intermediates-guide.html
I loved it, and I love the mindset. This is what i’m working towards really.
But the Steam forums aren’t really doing it for me due to the mindset of alot of people there, so I’ve decided to join here to improve myself further.
Skillwise, by my own standards, I’m okay. I know when I make mistakes, where I can improve, how to read people and learn what they’re going to do. I’ll usually win unless they’re pretty good but have no hope against a pro.
My issue is that I want to know how to punish people properly and which moves to use when I do know what someone is going to do.
There are often times when I know someone is going to do something but I don’t know the correct moves or chain in order to do something I want.
I coudln’t find an introduction thread, sorry
So heres a question - I find crossovers upon standing up can be pretty lethal, are there any better ways to deal with them? I find blocking to be too random. I have found a Small punch dragonpunch or similar move can be effective if they’re always going to go in for the sweep after. Is this a normal counter to that or are there better methods?
FADC?
I dunno. I usually headbutt out [Balrog].
Keep coming here and read the character forum threads for tips on what to train at.
Don’t make new threads asking the same things that are in stickys already, that’ll tick people off You’ll find anything from help with certain trial challenges to how to execute certain difficult combos (srk FADC ultra for instance is a common issue here).
Also take a look at the mycheats SF4 super guide. The makers are on this site too.
http://mycheats.1up.com/view/superguide/3163881/street_fighter_4/xbox_360
It has loads of videos showing and explaining usual combos. Very useful.
Thanks, i’ll try not to ask questions that have already been asked. I haven’t sat down to really practice things seriously yet, i’m mostly just reading forums here at work and playing online unranked matches
The skill levels online generally aren’t too good so far, but then again I’m only playing unranked.
But I don’t really care since my goal is to be able to play well in the arcade.
Another problem I have is panicing during combos thus getting the timing wrong. I’m sure that comes with time.
Hey all,
Newcomer to these forums, on first post status. The release of the console version of sf4 got me back into the game. Like many others I haven’t played since super turbo, it feels good to be back! I decided, for better or worse, to main akuma because he’s just too crazy. So far I’ve been able to lurk on some serious sf4 knowlege, this forum is great! I go to school at the University of Kentucky, anyone here from the Lexington area that wants to get some matches going in the fall? Anyway, here’s to getting bit by the SF bug… again.
Online skill levels seem to be quite random. Sometimes I’ll sit down for 2 hours and get 30-5 win score. Other times I’ll just lose and lose and lose.
The panicking will cease when you’re more experienced really. Then you won’t worry about how a combo is executed, you’ll just do it naturally even if it features lots of stick movements. Time is your best ally. And RedBull.
Hey Everybody.
Silenus over here.
Been SF fan since SF2 on my Snes.
Sadly I have never played in an arcade.
Fav char Ryu, hope to learn his combos.
Hey all, been a reader on here for a couple years, maybe more. Huge SF fan since I was a lickle boy. SF3 is my favourite, but SF4 blew away all my expectations, I didn’t think there’d be another great SF game It has a good chance of becoming my favourite SF when I find a main…Sooo that’s where I’m at, in SF3 my main was Chun Li, same with SF2…Never really had a main on the alphas, but I’d love Chun to be my main on SF4 aswell but I don’t think that’s happening, gonna read up on what Chun players here think…
At the moment I seem best with Akuma, I’m also good with Gief, Blanka & Sagat but I don’t think that’s become I’m particularly skillful with them, they’re just easy to win with against the average player.
runs around high 5ing I’m not at the level most of you guys are at, I hope to get close in time, muchos respect for those of you who’ve practised enough to be raw powa.
Hey where can I watch Evo online?
