Hello,
Quick newb qestion. I tried to search but couldn’t find a clear answer.
I know that you cannot throw someone while they’re in block stun. But can you successfully throw someone when they’re in the recovery part of a hit?
Thanks!

Here is a question: Why the shoto hate?
I’ve never really been part of a SF community before considering since I’ve only played casually before (since there really has never been an arcade scene where I live), but I’ve always played Ryu - so I don’t really get where the anger is coming from.
So why are people hating on Ryu and Ken? Cause there are so many? If there are really so many shouldn’t they be predictable and easy to beat
@Pierce2019
I’m pretty sure you can, just not while you yourself are in hit/block stun
Because people want to fight more than just Fireball/Sweep Ryus and Flowchart Kens.
cause our community is full of scrubs
It’s because Ryu and Ken is usually the first choice of newcomers. They learn how to mash shoryuken, and fireballs, plus the jump-in hk, c.hk. And that’s mostly everything they ever do. It’s annoying and boring to fight against such players. There are wicked good Ken’s and Ryu’s (like ed ma, daigo, gootecks) but they are far between.
lol that kind of is like how I play…
but I feel like I’m getting pressured to change my main. I’m just trying to learn and get better…
Not sure if this is the place to ask, but does capcom do updates for street fighter 4?
By which i mean, do they tweak characters through patches? I figured it would be a great way to fix some of the (minor) balance issues, (guile vs. sagat for instance). It then occurred to me that they shouldn’t do this because arcades couldn’t get the patch.
Does anyone know if this is the case?
@LeeVaughn
I read somewhere else on here that they don’t since the game is on consoles and arcade and things like that.
But they are supposed to be releasing SF4 Dash which will introduce some changes
No you can’t.
Read the Ryu forums and find the usual combos, how to combo into ultras safely, how to improve your fireball game, practice some of the more difficult stuff like srk FADC ultra…then you’ll improve in every way.
I’m definitely working on that stuff. My execution really blows though. I have trouble even doing c.MK->Shoryuken consistently. I’ve only been playing SF with a stick for a week though so hopefully I’ll get better. I’ve tried the srk FADC ultra, but I can only get through srk FADC
I’m also trying to prevent myself from jumping since I’ve noticed I have a tendency to use jumping as my main mode of transportation. Practicing dashes
Actually, that’s semi-false. Arcade cabinets can get such patches (See Tekken 5.1), but it’s more common to get a “half-version” with an upgrade kit (See Tekken 5: Dark Ressurection) that includes new graphics for the cabinet itself.
So you can ONLY throw when the other person is either: 1. Stunned or 2. Blocking
Any other throw attempt will fail. Am I right?
Thanks a lot!
Gonna try to answer, somebody correct me if I’m wrong:
well there is hit stun (being hit) and there is block stun (blocking an attack), and you can’t throw when either you or your opponent are during either of these.
So you can throw when they are neutral, blocking, tweetie bird stunned (i cant remember what its called), or during the startup frames or recovery frames of their attack
You know you can shoryuken with a shortcut in SF4, if you’re already crouching, just hit :df::d::df::p:
It’s easier than going to neutral and press forward then down again when you’re already crouching. Easier to link a crouching move into SRK that way.
It works because the game interprets :df: as down and fwd, so when you hit the second :df: you complete the :r::d::df: motion.
And for the mashers there the :df::df::p: shortcut that lets you DP across the whole screen by hammering df on the stick and p…go ken F.DP!!!11
I know about the shortcuts I guess my problem is (besides remembering them) performing ultra move after the FADC (which itself is a problem for me, as I sometimes don’t dash fast enough out of it) and then performing the move.
I think the problem is just a matter of dexterity rather than not knowing what I’m doing on for that particular move.
It’s just stress…I think the guys who pull it off all the time have practiced it so much it’s in their muscle memory. It’s the same thing that lets you type fast on the keyboard without looking at it. Or what makes a pianist or guitarist be able to improvise without playing all the wrong notes.
You just think it, and it comes.
Check out the http://mycheats.1up.com/view/superguide/3163881/street_fighter_4/xbox_360 guide, there’s tons of combo videos in there. It’s like haunts is doing all these crazy combos in his sleep, while narrating every move as he does them.
I just watched that “Tips from the Pros” vid this morning actually.
But it was pretty impressive (even when they couldn’t beat some of the challenges lol )
So you can or you can’t throw someone when they’re in the recovery part of a hit?
I think your talking about hit stun.
Go here: http://the-morning-after-the-night-before.blogspot.com/search/label/Theory%20Fighter
It really helped me understand alot of things.
Ctrl+F hit stun to see if thats what your talkin about.
