I think you’ll find that’s exactly why you can’t make your own thread…
:wtf:
Thanks for all your great tips.
I looked around as much as my ADD would allow in order to try and find an answer for this already and didn’t, so I figure I’ll make a quick post.
I’m currently playing Blanka and considering Ken as an alt. Just to give you a little history of myself… I haven’t really played street fighter or any fighters since when I played Super Street Fighter II Turbo (it’s the one I mainly played) back in the day… When I was a kid/I played it up through my early high school years though. In fact, I haven’t even been on consoles. So, anything I may have known or done back then, is pretty much out the window at this point. I picked up SFIV because I love SF and have a console now, and I was very excited. I started off playing as Sagat and Zangief just to get familiar with the game.
I eventually found I really liked Blanka, so I came here to read up on some strategies. I first started with basics…how to focus attack… some blanka matchups… not even combos yet, just getting an idea, watching some videos. I eventually got better and started beating everyone I ran into on xbox live. I then started looking up combos and how to use my ultra/super better, smart play, etc, still basic stuff (Hell I sitll can’t get these combos to hit fluidly, gotta hit training mode :3).
So anyways, now that I’m reading more and more and going into trianing mode etc… I go on XBOX Live and play guys who I predict. They like heavy kicks, they like to turtle with fireballs or whatever the hell they have. They do the 3 same moves in a row, usually like, Heayv kick Heavy kick uppercut or something retarded. I just wait it out and try to practice punishing their failures with combos (which again I’m not so great at).
Here’s the thing though, I’m losing. I’m losing a lot. I’m losing to guys I used to wreck because of my new play style. Is this a common thing? I read somewhere it’s common to lose a lot when you pick up a new character (I think in gootecks guide about coming from 3rd strike -> sf4) but I’m not a pro player so, it’s probably different. If I change back to my old style which is pretty even more noobish, I can beat them. What should I do here?
My other question is: Do you think Ken is a good alt for a Blanka main? I decided not to play another charge character… I’m mainly looking to beat matchups like vs Bison, Guile… hell honda gives me trouble.
Well theres my newbie problems, thanks in advance to anyone who helps. Just post here or email me hotelonanisland@hotmail.com
And if anyone wants to give me some tips or play add me, m0lk2pct on XBOX Live.
I have been lurking here since around CvS 2.
I decided to take the full plunge once I decided I wanted to go full force in SFIV.
The community here is superb and I am very thankful to everyone who has helped me thus far.
Just wish I had a credit card so I give you peoples some +rep!
Hello to all!
I am a new Italian player, and so far I just get beaten horribily.
I hope I can get better!
Any advice on choosing a main?
I do not have a stick yet and so far like playing with Zangief, Balrog (Boxer) and Sagat, although Sagat is hard to play without a stick.
Hi Prado, I’m italian too, maybe we can play together one of these days
Ciap
ok, so when I try to option select tech when crouching, i hear a whiffed jab/short and then i get thrown.
um wtf. so i gotta stand or something to teck?
I have one question for you guys.
Whats the difference in the game when you change the control settings between “control pad” and “arcade stick” in the options menu?
No, you can tech a throw while crouching. If you’re hearing a whiffed jab/short then you’re doing it too soon. Remember to tech a throw you have to hit lp + lk within 10 frames after they’ve hit throw.
They’re just different default button mappings; one for pad and one for stick.
Depending on what console you play, I don’t recommend charge characters. On the 360 pad, it’s far too easy to press up when trying to do a back-forward charge in the heat of battle. That aside, though, Balrog (Boxer) is an excellent choice. It’s easy to learn his dangerous combos and to set opponent’s up for mixup. Zangief is also a good choice, but I find it difficult to do his Ultra/Super on a pad.
Hey, just joined up here. Been lurking for a bit, but finally actually got a 360 and borrowing the game from a friend so I can play for now. Where do I post/look to find people’s tags and request matches? I need a lot of practice against certain characters, this game is pretty different from the last ones I’ve played (mostly SF3 and CVS2). Thanks guys! Happy to be here.
For 360 tags in general - link
For character specific tags, check the character sub forums, some have threads with tags in them

No one has replied to my post on 43 and before it gets too burried… In case anyone did read it and cares to help me, I’m getting a stick tomorrow and I plan to kinda relearn everything with the stick before I get too far. I think I’m taking a good step here, but if there is any other help you can throw at me, please do :).
Worried about playing too much on pad/
Well, I suppose this isn’t technically gameplay itself but a problem caused by playing street fighter, I’ve noticed that after playing a lot with the ps3 pad that my thumb has started to develop a callus, should I just stop playing for a few days or will it be ok with carrying on until my stick arrives? (around 20th april to 7th may, it got delayed)
I know this is probably a bit of a weird question but i’m kind of worried since I heard they are hard to get rid of and can become infected.
anyone have tips on incorporating focus canceling special moves with boxer? when it is appropriate/effective, and when it is not? thanks.
what characters would fit my play style? in marvel i would play magneto/sent/ironman, and i like dishing out long, execution heavy comboes
i’m finally getting sf4 this sunday
El Fuerte
He has the longest combo possible, and it’s execution heavy.
Fei-Long and Abel also have infinites of their own, but are character-specific.
Hi AquaSilk.
I’d like to know which finishing CW you used in Fei Long’s hard trial 4. The LK one?
And does the strenth of the flamekick (the one you have to cancel) matter?
And what’s the best way to EX focus cancel:
:r:, :r:+:mp:+:mk:
or
:r:+:mp:+:mk:, :r:
or
:mp:+:mk:, :r:, :r:
Btw., I also use a gamepad (the NubyTech 15th anniversary Playstation controller).
I am still a beginner after two months of playing.
I was wondering on a six button layout (curved japanese or straight layout), is it a bad habit to use the thumb or is it all personal preference?
It feels like the layout was meant for the index, middle, and ring finger; I see myself using the thumb on SHORT, index on JAB, middle on STRONG, and ring on FIERCE
The thumb primarily gets involved in Focus Attacks, Throws, short-based attacks while charging on Balrog TAP with 3x punches, and Akuma’s Demon rages
Well, if you keep playing knowing that your thumb is gonna suffer then you deserve it.
