THE SF4 BEGINNERS Thread! NEW? POST HERE FIRST!

Hello Everyone!

First time here at Shoryuken.com

Many of you probably know me already, I originally posted most of the HARD Trial vids on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/user/AquaSilk529

Props to Ultragod9000 who originally told me about shoryuken.com

I’ve been trying to reply to everyone and their inquiries, but it’s tough to get to everybody :frowning: I also tried to make this a separate thread, and try to answer any questions…but it said I didn’t post enough posts.

A little info about myself:
I was heavily into SF HD Remix, until SF4 came out. Zangief is and will always be my main character, regardless of tier count

I play on PS3, and I use the PS3 controller (DualShock 3)…many people say you can’t progress in skill by just using the controller, but I believe in the opposite. I feel you have more control with your controller, than you do with an arcade stick. But that’s just me. I occasionally play in China Town CTF Arcade (New York City).

Right now, I have 11,000 Battle Points online (it’s hard to find people to fight with more than that these days, although I know they do exist). So if anyone needs any advice, or would like to have a couple of friendly matches, let me know! PSN - AquaSilk

Peace out

I thought you couldn’t even begin throw execution until the opponent is completely out of stun and fully standing?

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but here’s my understanding:

Normal throws hit on the 3rd and 4th frame, which means that you can throw one out while your opponent is getting up, 3 frames before they are recovered, and it will connect instantly unless they reversal, backdash, jump or tech it.

oh hay guize, random scrub here

I wandered into the world of street fighter on accident one day while spamming peach dsmashes in melee. My recent activities include trying unsuccessfully to block raging demons over and over again and jumping on top of fireballs.

Keep at it mate, I’m sure you’ll be able to block the raging demon soon. The most important thing is to always keep trying!
:rofl::rofl::rofl:

for some reason, I can’t get it into my head that it’s a grab hitbox and no amount of holding down back will stop it. Needs moar reflex jump

Arrgh. I’m having a problem with people who continually go for tick throws. What exactly does one do to get out of it? Do you continually have to try to tech? Or is there some other alternative?

I looked around the thread for answers, but the search results didn’t really seem to help very much.

Reversal, backdash, jump or tech it.

Hey guys, I got street fighter a few weeks ago and i still haven’t decided who to main. I wish to main 3 characters, so i have a bit of variety.

Right now i main Chun Li and El Fuerte. Who else should i main and why?

Also why do people FADC to ultra? Is there some kind of special thing that happens when you do? Thanks ! (sorry if i posted in the wrong section, just registered today >.<)

Done properly, a FADC into Ultra will guarantee that your ultra hits. When you play beginners you ‘may’ be able to land a Ultra by initiated it at anytime… When you start to fight more advanced players they will block/avoid it, and then punish you severely for it (as your character is vulnerable for a while)

Both of your main’s are fast fighters that do medium damage… If you learn shoto style you will be able to play Ken/Ryu/Sakura/Akuma/Sagat… plus Ken/Ryu are very friendly to beginners

I enjoy Abel, but he requires a high amount of pressure

(Sorry if this is in the wrong place)

I main Zangief and I win about 70% of my matches online (I’m not good by any
means , I’d consider myself under average) and I realised that most of the people that I lost too where Ryu. Their tactics (all of them) consist of ducking and blocking every time and they kept sweeping me and I just couldn’t find a way to hit them (I tried combos, lariats and grabs)

My question is;

How do you beat those kind of players with Zangief? I couldn’t have done anything in those matches :frowning:

Zangief has that green hand attack that seems to attack low, have you tried this?

Greend hand does not hit low.

BUT use it to cover distance anyway. Green hand that misses > SPD does well.

And of course, EX Green Hand isbeautiful.

If you want to inch forward slowly, just press forward and block low on reaction. Ryu’s overhead only hits close. You can also try standing HK and low MK to close the gap while attacking. And if it’s only sweeps, you can also use KKK Lariat to cover the distance and mount pressure.

What’s with the matchmaking system? I have around 30 BP, and I have yet to fight a single player with less than 1k. Pretty frustrating.

That SSF2T wiki is a lot more in depth than the SFIV one. I know not everything applies, but does the “safe reversal” work?

Not that I could ever accomplish this on a 360 pad…

Do grabs in this game do more damage if you mash?

You don’t really need to worry about safe reversals in SF4 really. It was more important in ST since the reversal window was small, so it was actually difficult to do a reversal. Safe reversals are a technique that means you won’t get punished if you screw up the timing.

In SF4 you can get a reversal out with 100% reliability if you practice…
:karate:

Thanks.

Unfortunately, I’ve developed the habit of mashing out the DP input because it works if appropriate on wake, and it works to finish combos (I’m typically Akuma). What kind of frame window is actually allowed in those situations? When I try to execute the DP once in perfect time I typically fail, and get punished.

Noob here, got a question…

For those of you who use a stick, how do you situate yourself? Do you just put the stick in your lap, or do you stand in front of a table or something? I can’t imagine myself being very comfortable with a Madcatz Fightstick in my lap.

I ask because I’m debating between a Fightstick or a Fightpad, altough the way supply is looking I think I might just have to snatch up whichever I can find first.
