The SF2 Hyper Fighting Thread

You and your quote are reasons why there should be a IQ test to post in this thread and to play fighting games.

Anybody in the Socal area needs to come to Super Arcade in Walnut CA for some Hyper fighting offline games. I just installed new sticks and will keep the cab in tip top shape as long as there are people playing it. We’re gonna try and get some people together to play this Sunday!

Boxer hitboxes/frames up @ http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Street_Fighter_2:_Hyper_Fighting/Balrog
I didn’t realise his cr.Roundhouse is quite that good, hah!

edit: oh, one thing I want to clear up about Boxer’s TAP, I’ve seen a few mentions of TAP comboing into rush straight/rush upper. I assume all these are referring to some kind of meaty/max distance TAP, because the frame advantage simply doesn’t allow it on first frames… anyone got some extra info?

Also, let me know if there are any comments or suggestions on formatting or other things you guys want included/any errors or things you want investigated/anything that is confusing etc. I’m also trying to compile my various findings about the engine on the HF wiki page as I go.

great work man thanks alot!

on another note, getting back into this game on supercade has been a ton of fun.

Cool that you have some kind of nice compromise for bringing together people used to different setups. Something like this is really needed if the dream tournies we want to see happen are going to work!

Just fantastic work again Flux. Regarding the TAP, yeah Im assuming people mean a meaty one, you can get real deep with that.

Great stuff Vol, trust me when I say that all of us dream of being able to come over there to play mike in the arcade.
EDIT: I was just speaking to the NZ guys on Supercade and they said they are planning a trip to LA this year to play at Supercade! We want to try to get all the best old school players out for this, Jeff, Mike maybe even Tomo, so put the word around guys!

In other news guys, my website went up yesterday with the first post on the original major tournaments for SF2.

There will be more content up soon, covering all the sort of oldschool stuff I post about here

awesome stuff crayfish, I will check this site regularly, but be sure to continue to post in here and keep this thread alive too with your usual interesting stuffs

Cool video. I didn’t know Jeff was Bring it on, although looking back, I see he uses Blanka and Sagat a lot in other games.

Hey guys over at Super Arcade we have a Hyper fighting cab that seems slow to us. Any reason why it would be so slow, or are we just tripping cause St is so much faster?

Here’s the link and some vids of our cab’s speed Let me know what you think? The ST match vids + discussion thread

That looks close to what it is on Supercade. Tessai did a test and found different speeds with 2 machines. I know the PSX version I run through in training mode is definitely faster than Supercade. Some videos online of the arcade version definitely look faster than Supercade. It’s all very strange.

Here’s a thread dealing with the HF speed issue (both in mame and real arcade hardware), and why there are variations of speed even in HF cabs: http://www.mametesters.org/view.php?id=408

Basically, WW and early SF2CE boards only have 10mhz crystals on the A board. Lots of these boards received ROM/daughterboard upgrades to SF2HF, but run too slow because of this crystal.
True SF2HF setups have 12mhz crystals on the A board.

If you remove the daughterboard(s) you will find a 16mhz crystal and another crystal, as shown in the images in that link. If it’s 10mhz, the game will be running too slow. 12mhz and it should be fine.

While it’s possible that faulty roms COULD cause some kind of slowdown, it seems quite unlikely. Other problems would likely be evident. Usually graphics corruption, because it takes up so much of the ROM data.

HTH

@ Poda
Am i wrong or you used to be MKUltra when 2DF and MiCLuS a few month ago maybe a year on Supercade?

Yeah, that’s me.

Not seen you since you just disappeared from Supercade.
What about you? Dont you play anymore?
I have told good things about you and many STRONG PLAYERS on Supercade are seeking your head.

@ daemahnic
I just found him the one i was talking no other than MiCLuS.

I suck, but thanks for the “heads” up. Get it? Haha, ok ok.

Yeah, lol…
Dude lets have a good time just as we used to play back in days, i totally lost interest on playing since u left Supercade Scene. Id like to beat ur Sim and Gief or maybe even ur Ken, what do u say? Ahhh and one more time be aware there are so many strong players seeking your HEAD and i really mean it specially when it is about NZ BLADE_ & Thomas Foster, Old Mastah, Monsta, Bring it on, Buckaroo Banzai, Marsgattai, ko-rai, Complexz, CWheezy, of course me too and others.

Haha, my Sim and Gief. Come on dude, you know I’m terrible with them. Those are just toy characters for me. I know about all those good players, believe me. I played with a few already. My connection with the NZ guys is atrocious.

Yeah we know who MiCLuS/Poda is. The guy who plays HF everyday. Top player for sure! But, in my opinion, I still think Old Mastah is the man to beat. Fingers crossed he makes it to the World Comp in October!
