my favorite sf game of all time… i play this on mame all the time. The only sf i think guile was fun to use in.
In MAME? It doesn’t work right in MAME.
Isn’t HF Guile his worst incarnation? Doesn’t his Sonic Boom have the worst recovery out of any other version of Guile?

That being said, he’s still awfully good in that game.
HF Guile is only not as a good as WW/CE Guile, while the later versions like Super and ST Guile are definitely without question worse then HF. Guile. HF. Guile may have a 5 frame slower recovery Sonic boom at 25 frames, however his normals on their massive hit boxes and range are all exactly like CE. Guile. So although he may not be as good as WW/CE Guile due to the slower SB recovery, he’s still better then the other two later incarnations due him having superior normals in comparison to them, and the nerfing of the range and priority of his normals were without a doubt the biggest drops he received.
He’s a freak in HF still, I pmed Wats once about this and he said that Guile is still powerful enough to be #2, under Ryu, which was the placement I had Guile in anyhow, so I concede to that point. He’s everything CE. Guile was, except a slower recovery SB, which didn’t drastically change his game plan at all, because he was still winning tons of tournaments back in the height of the HF days.
Actually, I think Guile’s c.MK has a smaller hitbox than CE Guile’s. It doesn’t trade with stuff as retardedly easy as in CE. In general, a lot of moves in HF got their hitboxes retracted a bit (M.Bison ;_;), and that was Guile’s best ground move, so it I’d be surprised if it was identical.
And actually, I think Super Guile might be slightly better than HF Guile. ST is clearly worse though. IMO, HF Guile was the last Guile who was really strong, fun, yet still relatively fair.
I’ve never noticed any changes to his c.mk range on it’s hitbox, it feels exactly the same to me. CE/HF were the two SF games that I’ve had the most experience playing within my time, and I feel no differential in either Guile except for the Sonic Boom. However the difference between CE to HF. Guile that I feel sometimes that flies under the radar which plays another big factor was the speed of HF, this made it harder for Guile to catch and counter things, as opposed to CE, with the slower speed, it works more heavily into his gameplay.
Super Guile is not as good as HF. Guile is because of the nerfs on some of his normals, most noticeable is the c.mk, the range on that is ST range, when you play him, it’s very noticeable when your zoning with SB’s and trying to apply pressure.

has a single page that shows Guiles MK hitboxes thru all the different versions. They dont do this for any of the other moves - characters (only ST data) so this argument must have come up several times

CE and HF are the same, and wow, I didn’t know WW. Guile’s c.mk was that huge in contrast to the others, I actually thought it was nearly equal or that of CE/HF’s c.mk. Also yep, Super and ST. Guile’s c.mk being shanked is accurate with the hitboxes indicated from this book. Nice find and post man.
Can someone please give me a quick list of Ryu’s best combos? I know combos aren’t the be all and end all in this game but I also know there is a time and a place for them. The one I use is j.fp, s.fp, fierce fireball. The one I want to learn is the one that Crayfish mentioned somewhere on this thread that I just spent 20 mins trying to find. Something like, c.short, s.fierce, f.fireball. I read somewhere, and I’m not sure if this was correct or not, that to do the standing fierce in that combo you have to hit short kick and fierce punch at the same time? Is that right? That’s how it seems to be explained on the shoryuken wiki.

yeah it is called the CPS 1 chain combo, it is very easy to do, becase the timing is very easy to get used to, i made a video explaining how to do it, here is the youtube link:

To quote my HDR Cross-up, Link, and Combo FAQ…
“/” means “or”.
Cl. stands for “close”.
You can use close :hp: on just about all of the characters, but crouching :hp: has to be used on a couple (Blanka is the one that sticks out in my mind) in order for that combo to connect. Crouching :hp: works on most of the cast, as well. Can’t remember who it misses on.
That ToD has been working since Hyper Fighting, AFAIK, because of the increased Hadouken speed.

Guys, HF is now on GGPO!!
Now we have HF on 2DF and GGPO Im sure it will bring in a whole bunch of new players. Whatsmore, alot of people say that GGPO netcode is superior over long distances, so might even get to play some of you guys in the Carribean!
Atm it seems a little buggy, tonight got some desyncs, funny sound-music issues and i actualy turned from dhalsim into guile while performing a sweep (rainbow edition sttyle!), but seems pretty solid for the most part…

Soz i missed ur post Ultima. No i wouldnt bother getting the book if i was u, there is almost no information on games outside of SSF2X. I think there may only be 1 other page besides the Guile one I scanned that has info on the older characters…
Btw guys, jump on GGPO, I played a guy on WC USA last night and it played great. There are quite a few desyncs and the music bugs are hilarious, but it plays super solid for the most part
