The SF2 Hyper Fighting Thread

Are you implying that the vid of Watson backs up your opinion about Guile being top tier?

I’ve strongly believe he’s always been #2 in HF regardless of the video since the OG days of Hyper Fighting, **so what of it? **

I believe he’s using the “Obj Test” menu. Instructions for accessing it trough dipswitches were on T. Akiba’s page, and I spread them around here a while back. However, emulated dipswitches are frustrating to work with properly, so someone at another forum managed to isolate the value that starts up the Obj Test menu and make it into a regular emulator cheat so you don’t have to mess with dipswitches. This menu can be accessed in all of the CPS1 SF2s.

The text for this menu exists in the SSF2/SSF2T ROM too(not surprising since CPS1 and CPS2 were very similar hardward-wise, so most of the code could be copied and pasted), but if the menu itself actually exists, I have no idea how to access it.

Interestingly enough, SSF2/SSF2T has some text for some other test menus too, including what appears to be an expanded sound test that lets you switch and transpose instruments.

You didn’t really answer my question.

LOL.

I believe that its a “yes”

Anyone whos played HF on xbl knows blanka and honda are way above everyone else and ryu/ken are just under them for having srk’s with ridiculously low startup n HUGE hitboxes.

Are the hitboxes for sagat up yet? i want to find out why almost every normal blanka, honda, ryu, ken, guile, n especially chun have beat out his fierce TU CLEAN

It’s not a fair tradeoff at all sagat deals hella damage but in exchange has no priority this is the only SF2 game where chun and honda are GOOD against sagat

I didn’t realize this thread was talking about sf 2 hyper fighting tiers on xbl.

I’d actually say bison, vega are top tier on xbl not blanka and honda. Vega being the best character when you’re playing people from far away

Vega’s jump forward fierce, jump straight up delayed fierce/empty jump into sweep mixup is unblockable 50 percent of the time.

Bison has low forward x 2, wait psycho crusher uninterruptable link string

and the almighty blanka with his jump medium kick, i’d put him as 3rd.

A few months back, I was pming Wats about the HF tierlisting, and we shared our thoughts and opinions about it. I gave him my listing of what I thought was the tierlisting, interesting enough, he only changed one thing from my tier list. I trust his judgment more in part because he still excepts pm’s, however most importantly, he was around when HF had it’s highest peak of top players, so his opinion would hold an infinite amount of more water then mine.

However, if anyone really wants to see it, I’ll post it up later. However, to answer your question R/C, yes, Guile is top tier in HF.

I didn’t ask you if Guile was top tier or not.
But whatevers, just forget about it.

Isn’t there a XBL thread for HF?

Sure, post it up.

Correct me if i’m wrong but it sounds like u think i’m talking bout the SF2 on AE i’m talking bout the one u made the thread for thts on XBLA.

:rofl::lol::rofl::lol::rofl::lol::rofl::lol::rofl::lol::rofl::lol::rofl::lol:

This is the dumbest and most ill-informed post i have ever read in all of SRK history n i been lurking since 00.

Bison is universally accepted to be the absolute WORST character in the game hands down no contest with vega being right behind him i’m not saying these 2 guys are complete shit but they are at a significant disadvantage against everyone else in HF.

I never played HF before it came out on the XBLA but i been playing it almost everyday since it cameout n i think i know the game pretty damn well so from my own personal experience this is what i think an accurate MODERN tier list for the game should be: (from best to worst)

honda
blanka
ryu
ken
guile
boxer
chun
sagat
zangeif
sim
claw
dic

I’m not trying to derail this thread or anything i’m jus responding to the tiers in the first page which are retarded except for the t.akiba one.

Honda is way too high, Blanka is too high, Guile is too low, Boxer is too high, Sagat is too low, and Gief is too low. Great thing about this game though is that the characters are more even than in every other Street Fighter and the tiers are more debatable.

If you’ve played this on XBL i’m sure u wud agree with me.

Hondas headbutt is very hard to dp on reaction even from across the screen, if u block his body splash he can go straight into his bearhug which is unblockable or do handslaps which takes up a quarter life even when blocked. A decent honda can just do any jump attack and go into handslaps or bearhug the entire round n win EASILY against an opponent of much greater skill. Blankas normals just straightup beat out EVERYTHING CLEAN n his jump roundhouse is especially nasty not to mention his upball hits on the way up AND down. Don’t mistake me for thinking honda n blanka are cheap or anything all i’m saying is that if u pick either of these guys u have to work ALOT less harder to win as opposed to with anyone else and just about everyone on xbl will attest to that.

Guile too low? guile has some nasty combos and can take advtange of his sonicboom pretty easily but alot of his normals get stuffed CLEAN by most other ppl so he’s not nearly as overpowered as honda or blanka.

I only come across a few good boxers but he can deal alot of damage fast and i put him as high as i did cuz if u get single headbutt in ur almost always guranteed to take almost half life.

I used sagat more then anyone else on xbl and it’s very safe to say that while he doesn’t outright suck he is pretty bad in HF especially when compared to his ST or champion counterparts, the bottomline is that sagat does ALOT of damage for example fierce tiger uppercut always takes almost a third of life BUT in exchange for his damage his fireball speed+damage is nered and most importantly HE HAS 0 PRIORITY!!! half the casts normals beatout his fierce TU! For example any jump attack from chun wil lALWAYS beatout his fierce TU CLEAN n this makes the match almost lopsided cuz all this power is useless if he has 0 priority and shittyass hitboxes so the bottomline is that when i use sagat i have to work ALOT harder to get a win then the opponent unless they pick geif, sim, claw, or dic which is rare cuz 99% of xbl uses blanka n honda go figure and geifs ticks are alot harder to pull off and all he really has going for him is his lariat range.

Classic counter matches are out the window in HF for example honda n chun are GOOD against sagat, sagat RAPES sim, vega gets torn a new one by blanka, etc.

Though i disagree bout u saying the tiers being debtable (from thousands of matches of experience) i do agree this is balanced SOMEWHAT more then other SF2 games simply cuz everything in general does alot of damage and the toptiers (honda, blanka, ryu, ken) are more or less even matches n can go either way assuming both players r of equal skill n i like the fact there are no supers it was a good decision and makes the game more fun.

No offense Zoolander, but all of your thinking is skewed by how lag affects HF on XBL. Offline, almost anyone with a fireball(Except for Dhalsim) own Honda for free. There a lot of things that work well online, that you just can’t get away with offline.

SJV speaks the truth.

I haven’t played on Xbox Live, and I don’t doubt that things are different on it. I mean, is it a lot harder to do reversals and stuff?

Edit: Johnny seems right.

^^^I agree 100% however i still maintain that blanka is EASILY in the top3 as well as ryu who offline i would say is #1 or #2 cuz of his fast startup srk and hurricane kick knocking down and sagat still sucks offline cuz he flat out gets stuffed by alot of the casts normals regardless of lag.

…so why did you start arguing with people as if they were talking about on xbl in the first place

I wasn’t “arguing” with anyone i was pointing out inconsistancies and differences in tiers mentioned on the first page when comparing offline n online play cuz i do both and find it interesting how much lag affects what is arguable the most or at least 1 of the most balanced fighters ever made.

This is the list that I compiled up, yes, with some help with Wats though, especially for the TOP 5.

  1. Ryu
  2. Guile
  3. Blanka
  4. Sagat
  5. Ken
  6. Zangief
  7. Chunli
  8. E. Honda
  9. Dhalsim
  10. Balrog
  11. Vega
  12. Bison

Now, what I originally had within my original top 5 was Ryu, Guile, Sagat, Blanka, and Ken. However I switched Blanka to 3rd after Wats convinced me otherwise. Because he stated in short terms, Blanka has some few easy matchups in HF that pushes him above Sagat.

Also, I hope that people don’t get the notion, that just because someone like Rog, or Claw where at the lower end of the tier listing, that they sucked, because that’s completely untrue. HF is so damn balanced, with excellent counter match ups that being 4th or 11th doesn’t make a huge difference…because the advantages aren’t gigantic, but very small actually.
