Skrull’s best position is not anchor IMO. Nickcam for example does extremely well with Skrull second, backed by drones. Skrull is already hard to block and has good mixups from his command grab, drones help to make his pressure safer and allow him to set up his command grab easier. You’ll get more mileage out of your favourite character when they’re properly assisted. Besides, if you thought Skrull was scary with level 3 x factor, imagine how scary he is with level 2 and drones.
Skrull is definitely a character who can hang on every spot though, despite only having decent/situational assists. I’m extremely comfortable with the shell of doom/sent as my second and third characters, but if for whatever reason Firebrand gets nerfed (I doubt there’s even going to be a patch) I’d happily run Skrull on point instead.
I find skrull gets significantly better anchor because lvl 3 x-factor gives him a loop (he can launch out of his telport’s otg) and I perfer that to lvl 2 with an assist.
Anyway this is off topic and I don’t want this to turn into a want this to turn into an flame war so lets just leave it be.
No flames intended buddy. We’re just trying to help.
Out of interest though, Skrull can do his x-factor loop in level 2 as well, plus if you had the right assists he’d be ToDing everyone with a DHC anyway. Just something to think about.
Have you had any more thoughts about who you’d like as your other character? That would help judge the best positions for each character as you’d need to take DHC synergy, assists and whatnot into account.
IDK, I haven’t had a chance to try anything since I posted in this thread. The only other characters I’ve played with are Frank, Firebrand and Shuma (awful at charge moves still).
I’m using Taskmaster (hori arrows) Sentinel (dronez) Vergil (Rapid Slash). I feel the team has good Synergy. can pretty much go in any order without a problem.
That looks like a very well rounded team broseph, but excuse me for my ignorance when I ask what’s with the global obsession(nothing against you of course) over anchor vergil?
Along with XF3, I know he has the sword summoning, but other than that what’s supposedly making him out to be in this spot more than other places on most teams with Vergil that i’ve seen?
A big problem with gambit anchors like Wesker or Felicia or Super Skrull is that their approaches get blown up very easily. They also don’t really have self contained mixups that are safe.
Vergil on the other hand? Spiral Swords doesn’t give a single fuck about anything you’re trying to do to blow up an approach. At the very minimum its a free get in that forces you to block, and i’m sure you know what happens when you have to block in Marvel. Not to mention he has roundtrip mixups and everyone is free to Rapid Slash. Hes got pretty safe tools in general
In short, Vergil is a fraudulent anchor that puts a stop to all other fraudulent and non-fraudulent anchors. Can’t press buttons on him, can’t block against him.
To be honest, while I believe vergil is one of the best characters in the game, I most definitely don’t think the anchor vergil phase will last very long either. I mean similar to wesker there will be teams he fits perfectly on, but this whole “stick vergil on anchor and call it a day” thing, Im not so sure if it will last. A lot of things I thought were free for him, don’t seem as free as I originally thought. For example, he can’t rapid slash for free against a lot of characters, even sentinel. Against a select few characters he can’t even activate swords for free, storm and presumable dr. strange can just punish him for activating. Good luck creating enough space to activate them against logan when you have no assist coverage either.
And to top it all off, he has like no air mobility and no invincible hypers, so he might not even touch the ground sometimes. People forget one of the things that made dark phoenix the best anchor in vanilla was when phoenix had 5 bars she didn’t even have to worry about your incoming character mix-up, no other character can ever have that one thing going for them.
I hear you. That’s why i like this team. The team order can gobad but i still have three characters that are at least a competentpoint assist and anchor while covering my bases.
So I’ve been playing around with new teams, and I THINK I’ll be sticking to Spencer(?)/Sent(drones)/Doom(missiles). Everything Spencer does turns into a ToD when you add missiles, and apparently Sent/Doom is pretty good too.
I was just wondering if that’s the order you guys would recommend? My Doom’s kinda scrubby tbh, but I feel like he makes a better anchor than Sent, partly because Sent can still ToD without X-Factor in some cases. Plus Sent just has a lot of bad matches that missiles help with.
And what assist should Spencer have, if it even matters?
Spencer should have Slant Shot assist, it lets Sentinel do 2 rocket punches before Plasma Storm, and can help set up resets for both Sentinel and Doom (command grabs/foot dives)
I actually think you might be mistaken in regards to spencers assist, the slant shot(vertical) is the one that should allow sent to go for command grabs and combo into HSF, but the straight shot is the one that lets sent get 2 rocket punches in one combo. If it turns out Im correct then he can really pick either assist since they both bring something cool to the table for sentinel and doom, one allowing them to convert full screen projectiles into full combos ala and the other opening the door for resets. If I had to pick one id go for the straight shot.
I’ll have to check this out (I don’t play Spencer, but I do play Nova) . I’ll probably post what I find back here.
Also, slightly off-topic, but I was watching the replays from The RunBack and DAMN! Infrit with the patented INFRINIT or INFIRNIT as what the commentators were saying on stream.
Skip to 1:52:24 to when he sets up for the kill.
P.S. I don’t know how to link to time, which is why I gave the time stamp in the posted link
Im not sure if this works with stream links, but I think with youtube you stick a #t=xmys x=minutes and y=seconds. And thanks for the post, I haven’t been able to check out the runback for a while so it’ll be nice to see some sentinel rape.
Infrit basically ran a rape train on everyone in the runback. He attempted the Infrinite a couple of times, but really only got it 2-3 times iirc. Plus most of the opponents ran Zero. It’s a must see!
Based off the Spencer test stuffs, the HORIZONTAL SHOT assist is the one that gives the hard knockdown. SLANT SHOT sets them up for a reset (not 100% sure because again, I don’t play Spencer…) They recover just in time to get command grabbed by his grab really easy, the :l: grab whiffed if done too quickly, and :h: sometimes wasn’t fast enough, unless they did not jump.
Also, in regards to the Plasma Storm loops, I came across this yesterday but wasn’t able to post it.
100% Credit for the video goes to Yohosie (Lovely Voice btw!)
I posted about plasma storm loops months ago
I even had this video from january

On another note, it’s basically impossible to construct a better sentinel team than sentinel/doom missiles/vajira imo. It is just so good. If you haven’t tried it, I would highly reccomend it. I’m not trying to be a clockwork fanboy… it’s really that good. Sentinel is infinitely better with those 2 assists.
lol I remember that video, but when you posted it I wasn’t interested in playing doom/sentinel, and I had forgotten by the time I picked up doom. Good shit though.
As for the optimal sent team, Id take tatsu over vajra. Tatsu does a lot more for sentinel than vajra imo, plus it covers the horizontal plane while missiles covers the vertical whereas if your running missiles vajra you have 2 vertical assists. Plus I prefer akuma as an anchor over strider. Although doom/strider is much better than doom/akuma.
As far as optimal Sent teams go, I still think he needs Dante (with Jam Session). Sent can do a lot of awesome stuff with Dante behind him: ground hit-confirms; air hit-confirms; full-screen spit confirms; easy-mode anti-pushblock strings; stomp pressure; flight crossups and fake crossups; high/low fuzzy guard mixups; all sorts of low/throw 50/50’s; safe drone setups; H Catapult -> hard tag combos; HSF -> Devil Trigger pressure; etc.
The damage isn’t there like it is for Sent + Doom Missiles, but I’m not sure if there’s any other assist that helps Sent’s overall game to the same degree. I don’t have much time to play, though, so please do consider this theory fighting.
