The Sengoku Basara series Thread: NO POLEDANCING KASUGA FOR YOU!

Finshed watching all 12 episodes. Eyes are bloodshot. But I enjoyed every minute of it. And I don’t even watch anime.

I first I thought they screwed up Akechi when he was “helping” Nagamasa but they did him right. Dude is a sick fuck. He shot a load taking his last breath.

Ending made plenty sense if you’re not going off actual canonical history.

Yea they made sure that they emphasized Nobunaga was a badass. And heartless bastard. Kujouro was the fucking man though! I like that music in Ep 8 when he overcomes the poison and kicks the Triglomerate’s ass.

Guessing they’ll throw Hideyoshi in next season and flesh out Keiji some more. With how this season went it’s hard to guess which direction they’ll go in. So many characters killed off. Hope Zabii/Q Ball actually survived and gets some screentime. I want to see handcannons blast fools.

I can’t wait for this to be released, and see what Capcom was able to do with the PS3 hardware. I do, however, hope they took out one specific feature:

Dear Capcom,

Please don’t put “priming” in an SB game ever again. I like my easy-mode +2 hit weapons and items, thank you very much.

Your friend,

Well, the basic thing is that, Kobyashi (Producer of both this series, as well as DMC), has stated that they are going to make it a BIT more historical this time around. So, in essence, every character’s storyline will likely have to deal with certain things that have already transpired. For most characters, that means:

a) Nobunaga and his crew are gone, because of the Honnouji Incident, caused by Mitsuhide. Mitsuhide is also gone, because it’s alluded to that Hideyoshi was the one who punched him in the face soon afterward.

b) The Toyotomi have also been defeated and suppressed, thanks to Ieyasu and the Tokugawa. Whether this is also supposed to imply that my boy, Hideyoshi, and his BFF Hanbei are supposed to be “dead”, too, that’s left to be determined.

Now, before we start all worrying about whether we’ve heard Wakamoto-Nobunaga utter his last laugh, I’m thinking that there’s still no reason for them to fully get rid of characters, especially ones that are still well liked (Nobunaga, Oichi, Hideyoshi ,Hanbei and the Motos, certainly). What’s more likely is that, a la the Musou/Warriors series, a lot of characters are probably not going to be AS important as they were before.

So at worst, some characters may only be “Free/Conquer” Mode only characters, like Musashi and dem last time. But I’d like to think that, instead, older characters will likely be just stuck with “What If…?” storylines, such as if Nobunaga and his crew survived the Honnouji incident, and then lived on to cause trouble in the 1600 era. Then there’s characters like Hisahide, who as of yet, has not been playable at all. That should also be changed by this third game!

Besides, if nothing else, the anime has turned a whole new slew of people into BASARA fans. People who joined the party with the anime, are likely going to be disappointed if they see the anime, and some cool character(s) that they liked…only to not be able to play as those characters by the 3rd game (which would be out by the time of 2nd season).

So, we’ll see. But this one instance where I’m going to be cautiously optimistic.

Yeah, it’s a shame that they went and killed off so many characters so quickly. If they wanted to turn BASARA into a full-fledged series soon afterward, they shot themselves in the foot.

But in any case, Season 2 is likely going to be as much of a SB2 + SB3 mish-mash, as much as Season 1 was a SB1 + SB2 mish-mash.

Expect “Grown-ass man!” Ieyasu and Mitsunari to make an appearance. Maybe even some of the other new generals that will appear in SB3. It’s pretty much the only thing I could see, seeing how so many possibilities are cut off, already.

On the other hand, since the anime actually made it so Ranmaru survived and set up with Itsuki, I wonder if that might roll over into the game, some how…

Oh, and finally…the official site. Check out some more shots there.

The new track playing on that site is awesome. As BASARA music should be. :wgrin:

Time to put your guns on…FO REALZ this time!

This just came up over at Capcom-unity.

In short, even you aren’t a card-carrying importer like some of us (re: me), you have no excuse to not ride along with Masamune and pals.

“YOU READY?!”

Hell yeah, Basara finally gets it’s fair treatment in the Western shores!

Also, some TGS vids have surfaced (from the PS3 version)

Cool! If they are identical I’ll get the Wii version. I need a reason to turn it on once in a while lol! I play way more PS3 than Wii. Between Muramasa (which is great so far), Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and this hopefully I’ll have some good Wii stuff to play through 2010.

Hooooooooooooooooooooly shit this is awesome. Just watched the first video Lolerskates posted, looks great!

Yeah…this will be bought.
I hope that we don’t get screwed on characters like in Devil Kings.

yeah… i second this. so much awesome and then you shoot your own foot with having to use these weird names for the characters. Seriously…what douchebaggery did koei pull to keep capcom from using the names of historical figures? I didnt think you could trademark someones actual name

It had nothing to do with Koei…

Actually…the issue I was bringing up with Devil Kings was that certain characters playable in the JPN version are not playable in the US version…like Matsu and Mitsuhide.

I’d like to think that this is going to be a straight translation job - with the anime series being licensed and the reputation the imports have slowly amassed over here (1up.com even did an import review of Basara 2 Heroes, and heavily praised it) I think Capcom is a bit more confident in the series’ western potential.

Initial comments on the trailers and such:

  • PS3 graphics look very nice. Things are very sharp, mouth and lip movements are very good (they bought a company specializing in that type of thing recently, correct?)
  • I LOVE Ieyasu’s new boxer design, especially the hoodie part of his outfit, which is a great touch.
  • Yukimura and Masamune both received nice upgrades to their existing skills.

Oh yeah, can we also rename this thread to the general Sengoku Basara thread? That’s pretty much what it is now, so we should name it appropriately, and maybe give it a snappy second part (“Get ya guns on!”).

Sengoku Basara 3 - TGS 09: Japanese Characters Vignette

Iyeasu and Hideyoshi Fistfight…BRING IT!

I hope this makes enough domestic sales that Capcom may consider bringing SB2 Heroes.

Awesome! So glad they are giving the series another shot. Wonder if we’ll see part one, two/Heroes SBX and SBBH released and re released here. It’d suck to never get them here in the USA. Hell i’d buy em again.

Part one was here…as Devil Kings.

Fucking hell yes this is at least #2 on my most wanted list right now. SO HYPE for a US not-shit release

That Date vid makes me think you can equip at least 4 skills now(if not more). He uses Crazy Storm, War Dance, Death Fang, and Magnum Step(or whatever their new iterations are called) all in that one vid. I just pray it wasn’t a bunch of different playthroughs

It might be, who knows. Because they’ve been showing different parts of the stage every time they exhibit a move or two.

Game just looks more awesome in every new vid. Also looks like we can confirm Motonari’s back from the Yukimura vid, but that’s kinda expected because of his apparent popularity.

500+ hit combos! The enemies look like they only exist to be comboed, christ…

Notice I said another shot…
