The Sengoku Basara series Thread: NO POLEDANCING KASUGA FOR YOU!

I think the only characters that died in such a way that they will not return (except for being ghosts and stuff) are Azai (Oichi’s husband), Ieyasu, Nohime (Oda’s wife) and Mitsuhide. You never can tell with this series though. It’s bat shit insane. :looney:

Ieyasu I could see, some how, surviving.

The next game in the series has it such that Sekigahara has a rather large role, and that was the exact battle that made it so Ieyasu and the Tokugawa won Japan. If the second season of the anime is to be something along the lines of a SB2+SB3 mish-mash, then yeah, Ieyasu has to be able to come back. Or at least, be present at the end of S2, just in time to promote the inevitable 3rd season…

I wish they can make this into a non-stop anime, but I think it’s too high quality–that, and the animators are making 2 different versions to air, it just wouldn’t be possible.

Wouldn’t surprise me. He can always have his insides gutted and replaced with robotic parts. :cybot: Nah if anything they’d say he was badly wounded, survived and they lied about his death to everybody. That can work.

THIS ANIME IS COMING TO THE US!!! SHOW GUYS THAT!

Date just isn’t gonna be as funny in English.

LOL!

There’s still the stage play to look forward to in the meantime. Hopefully we can catch some YouTube vids of it. **“YOU BEEN BUZZ!” **:looney:

Could be interesting, and very profitable, if Capcom and Funimation are willing to give this anime the exposure it deserves. This is definitely a nice step to trying to promote BASARA’s cause in the West, even though the West has missed out on a total of 4 games in the series already… :lol

But among other things…FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, just keep it as Sengoku BASARA, or however they wish to translate the title, but keep the “spirit” of the series intact. “Devil Kings” was a mistake, and I would rather not see Capcom repeat it.

Well, it’s pretty much all but (officially) confirmed now:

This was the Japanese Newspaper that Nikkei online was referring to in that leak two days ago. So, that about wraps this party up. SB3 for Wii, it is.

It looks like this another part of the “interesting things planned for Wii” that Capcom was talking about for the system, with TvC and MH3 being the other things we now know about. It probably also helps that BASARA is definitely a brand that fangirls love, and such fans are much more likely to own Wiis than anything else.

But, thinking (cautiously) optimistic, I’m hoping that this may end up being another game that utilizes MH3’s engine. MH3 is beautiful, and the Classic Controller Pro (which the MH3 team helped design) is also wonderful. I’d only like to see this trend continue with SB3, if possible.

Also, there’s the thing about how there now exists a trademark for “Sengoku BASARA” in America.

It could be a sign that maybe, just maybe, SB3 looks to be the “second chance” that the brand has needed in the West. And with SB3 looking to be the effective “reboot” for the series as much MH3 is, so much is possible.

But whatever the case may be…this game is mine, whenever it comes out.

Yeah I posted something similar to what you did a few minutes before, but then deleted it because Capcom didn’t confirm it yet lol! It’s most likely true however. This was Capcom’s rather vague response to that article anyway -

Good news about them trademarking the Sengoku Basara name. Hopefully that means the anime will not be released here under the horrible ‘Devil Kings’ name.

Basically, in bullshit PR-ese, Capcom’s saying something to the effect of:

“Yeah…we really wish some jungle bunnies could have KEPT THEIR DAMN MOUTHS SHUT. But hey, wait for the official word, tho’! Kthnx!”

I’m willing to bet Famitsu next week will have the official thing. Would be a nice thing to unveil for their new “release schedule”, where the mag comes out on Thursday, instead of Friday. It’s anyone’s guess if the “Tuesday leaks” will be moved up a day too, but we’ll see.

Any way, I highly doubt that they’ll go through the “Devil Kings” nonsense again.

Mainly, for them to have done all they did with DK (basically completely re-working the game, adding in new content while taking out others, etc.), it fell flat on its face. They ended up spending more money than what it would have taken to do a more or less “standard localization”.

So…to really try the DK thing “one mo’ again!” would be a true example of doing the same thing and expecting a different result, otherwise known as INSANITY.

On another note: I still wonder how they hope to render Masamune, to make it so that he’s still quite awesome, even with an English voice actor. I mean, it’s true…without the Engrish, that’s effectively half of the character’s charm gone!

So, what could serve as nice way to “localize” him for an English dub (for both game and anime alike)? Have him sneak random Japanese into English sentences? Or maybe just make him and Kojuuro act as if they were being dubbed from the crew from “My Way Entertainment”?

Maybe Latin, or something…He did know a lot of languages (apparently)

Sengoku Basara 3’s Mitsunari Ishida, and redone Iyeasu Tokugawa..

And it’s coming to the PS3 and Wii…I’m still not expecting a US release though.

I wonder if Ieyasu will still have that same scrawny voice with that new look. Regardless, the new design looks good. Ishida doesn’t look half bad either, from the portrait.

I think with the announcement of the SB trademark in America and the fact that Funimation picked up the anime series and didn’t change it’s name to “Devil Kings” makes me have hope for at least one of the games to show up there.

Funimation picked up the anime series…nice!
I hope they keep the storyline intact.

PS3 too? Niiiiiiiice.

Just when I thought I had Capcom all figured out, they prove that they still can surprise even the most jaded individuals (re: me) from time to time.

I happily eat crow.

Hey…

PUT YA GUNZ ON!!

 Well said.

Any way, a bit more has been showcased since the initial unveil.

These new scans from Dengeki basically give rise to more information. We now know that, in the area of gameplay, Capcom stands to do a bit more, as each character will have “specific actions” reserved for them, that’s separate from the “Skills” you can attach on.

Speaking of skills, instead of the mere 2 you were allotted in past games, now you will have an option of 3 or more (hinted at possibly through level up?).

Finally, dashing. Dunno how this is intended to be utilized, but at least the PSP SB game already had dashing/air-dashing in it, so maybe this might be akin to that.

Storyline-wise, the basic thing is that the timeline has progressed to 1600. By this time, Ieyasu is no longer the lil kid who relied on Tadakatsu to save his ass, and is now a grown-ass man. He no longer uses a spear, but instead, has opted to take notes from the likes of Kenshiro and Ippo; epically punching people in the face. He now even sports a hoodie, some times!

Furthermore, he and Hideyoshi had a grand smack down, of likely Kenshiro vs. Raoh type proportions, and Ieyasu won. Now, he’s seeking to unite the rest of the country. But before he can do that, he’ll have to contend with Mitsunari.

Mitsunari was a vassal in the former Toyotomi army. With Hideyoshi’s defeat, he wants Ieyasu’s head for vengeance of his master. Mitsunari is reportedly going to be the fastest character in the series; no small feat, considering we already have speed demons like Kotaro and Kenshin, already. Mitsunari is also going to be the one who, canonically, hands Masamune his FIRST defeat.

So, in any case, everything basically comes to head by the legendary “Sekigahara” battle, that took place in 1600. But whether you care about the historical significance or not, SB3 is going to be a game that should not be missed.

All this, and the second season of the anime is planned to be shown at the same time, early next year. Can NOT wait.

CyberAkuma repped. Thanks for info man.

I was wondering who the two “new guys” were and how they fit into the storyline. I don’t know much. Only had Sengoku Basara X and Devil Kings lol. But I get the general gist. With the timeline progression, do you think we can still expect all characters to return? Or did some get killed off in the games too? I’m only on Episode 4 of anime and dunno if it’s canonical to the games or not but I don’t mind spoilers. And if this guy Mitsunari is indeed faster than Kotaro and Kenshin then he’s going to give people serious hell. Obviously, if he beat Date. Guess he didn’t have his gunz on. Lol.

Oh yea, importing SB3 for damn sure.

Yeah I wanted him to have a painful death that tortured his very existence, but he ended up relishing it.

The ending didn’t make any sense but that didn’t matter, cuz it was beautiful violence.

Oh and the opera music theme when Nobunaga appears is so badass.

Damn Cyber Akuma! Good stuff seriously dude. I can’t wait to import Sengoku Basara 3.
