The Basara games definitely have great OST’s. And hey, if you play the games you can always say it’s deeper than MGR in its thread. Depending on the game I might even agree. If you do end up getting a game, SB3 is probably the first one to get since it’s in English and is the first Basara to have its gameplay. SB3 gives you a lot more moves at one time, as well as a stronger aerial combo game.
SB1/2/2H you select two moves out of 6-8, some more or less, and use Triangle to use them and cycle between the two with a different button. SB3 and Utage you have a special move on Triangle, Direction+Triangle, R1, L1+Triangle, and you have three to choose from for R2. In Utage you also have a special move if you hold down Square. Some characters have a move like that in plain SB3, but it became universal in Utage.
IDGAF what anyone says, SB3/U are pretty fucking deep.
edit: Oh yeah, you can use some moves in the air in SB3/U whereas pressing Triangle in the other games would give you a normal jumping heavy regardless of what was selected.
SB (or at least SB3/Samurai Heroes) is dope, Beta. Characters all play vastly different from one another, & it’s just so much raw, unadulterated beat 'em up fun that even I can overlook the obnoxious character designs.
You can find the game for like $20 on Amazon. I’d start there if anything.
With a maxed out R1, you can put one up and hop back twice (holding L1 so you don’t change the direction you’re facing). Then bring out another one but hold the button down so you bring people in and then release. Hit it with 1-2 maybe 3 square strings and the two barriers should be right next to each other.
Motonari has the highest damage potential through stuff like this. As in highest in the entire game. I’ll try and find a few videos of ‘high level’ Motonari play for you.
edit: Oh cool, the guy that had several videos showing setups with Motonari, as well as a combo video for Kotaro, took down his Basara videos. ORZ.
Here’s a video though. It’s one that taught me how to motonari.
Another setup, I don’t have the game with me so I might be a tad off, is to have a single barrier up. Throw his LARGE RING R2? attack so that it circles around the barrier. As it closes in, the enemies should bounce off of both the barrier AND the ring. You either do the max charge ring first, or do a simple non charged one so give you time to charge. After it happens though, you either do another small one and then a max charged one, or just keep doing max charged ones.
Yeah, I once saw a video where the player traps both Matsu and Toshiie and that’s where I learned the set-up I used on Shimazu. I thought Motonari was ass until I saw that lol.
Woot, let me know when you find them. With this I’ve learned that every character has the potential to kick ass, one way or another.
wjdals0720 has a fair amount of SB3 videos showing good play.
I should probably take back saying Motonari has the highest damage in the whole game. He’s probably topped with Kenshin because holyshitfuckingkenshinthegawd.
Utage is so good for having tag switching though. That shit is godlike. Walking through Motonaris barriers, having Tadakatsu’s assist drones following anyone else, everything ever being awesome!
Haha, I didn’t think of setting up the rings sideways like that to take out the camp commanders. I tried it by facing them and pushing the ring towards them but it just bounces back to you lol.
Yeah, all Kenshin has to do is setup a counter and cancel into the fast-slashing-skill-thingy to keep up the slow-motion field up and have every single slash deal ice damage. Officers go down in seconds even on the highest difficulty.
If you count all the cancels, Keiji has almost 40 moves. He can even cancel out of hitstun on the first hit, and cancel his death animation once a stage.
The first issue of ASCII Media Works’ (re: Dengeki and etc.) new Sengoku BASARA magazine came out a few days ago. With it came a few new details that will likely have to hold us over until whenever they really start the hype train sometime in the summer.
I’d recommend keeping that blog as a bookmark. Raindrops is usually quite good with keeping up to date with BASARA news, including things beyond the games.
Anyway, hearing that SB4 will just continue to develop on SB3’s godly combat system is excellent news. But I’m also curious to think about who Char’s voice will be lent to, considering that they basically said that it would be a perfect match.
If I were a betting man? I’d say Saito Dosan (aka Nouhime’s Pops and Mitsuhide’s former master). If this game does shed a bit of light on Nobunaga’s earlier career, Dosan should definitely be present. Not to mention that anybody familiar with Ikeda’s work would likely agree that he’d make a perfect “Snake”.
Furthermore, if they really play up the “Char” connection with Dosan, maybe they could shed a bit of light on why Nouhime has access to such advanced weaponry, not to mention having a KILLSAT as a BASARA attack. Colony Drops on Japan, anyone? 8D
7/13/2013 will be host to yet another BASARA event. Not only will Koba show us more game footage of SB4, but Char will actually be there (and we’ll likely find who he stands to be voicing by that point).
Little bit less than two months is not too bad of a wait…right?
Changed from “LOL” to “Like” 'cuz of Ashikaga. Thank god too, as his description sounds like he’ll be a blast to play…in SB4 Heroes/Utage/Expansion
Not gonna lie, but it’s a bit underwhelming. Looks as if they’re using the MT Framework Lite engine like they did for SB3, which turned out okay imo thanks to the colorful, heavily-saturated art style.
Guess we’re gonna have to wait until SB5 for some truly high-res graphics.
i hope they buff mitsunari (lol), like how they gave everyone a universal buff via the personal items being condensed from 4 equipment slots used to just 1 (plus his completely changed from worthless to nonsensically OP).
