The SCIV Thread - Now pointless bickering free!

Just sweep those fools from the start. Asta pwns bitches.

Man… I get raped by good Astas.

Is there a way to escape his 100 throws? I swear, once I’m no the ground it’s stun throw stun throw stun throw.

IMHO:

THe top 5 characters in this game are Kilik, Setsuka, Voldo, Hilde and Ivy in that order.

That still doesn’t compose the whole of the top tier as you’re still missing Cassandra and Algol. I really believe all of these are the top tier of this game.

SC4 has a very nice balance and can actually compare somewhat to SC1 in terms of that.

Okay, so I guess my answer is that I need to explore his options a bit more than I have. Fair enough.

I’m still new to SCIV, give me time :(.

Thing is, Tigerboi, there are no truly overpowered characters in this game. The vast majority were nerfed compared to all the previous games. I’d say Cass is top-tier in the same way that Slash Ky was top-tier.

This is also why guys like Rock & Maxi don’t completely suck, even though they seem horrible by themselves. Since the cast was toned down overall, they can compete.

EDIT: Carbunkle Flux, bullrush more! It ducks under high attacks, has some tracking ability, and can only be punished by Taki. 6K also tech crouches, but it’s rather unsafe.

Depends what are you playing.

If you’re playing online, well yes, lag tactics will take you far.

But offline, knocking down the opponent is priority. That and JF command throws. While they are knockdown, a mixup of ax pickup, low throws and bear hug should work for you. I don’t recommend Stomp > Air throw as that takes them far away from his excellent wakeup game.

But yes, a routine of smart bullrush placement, JF command throws, terrain pressure savvy and good wakeup control should work nice with Astaroth.

For some reason I thought the bullrush required you to dash first. I’ll have to experiment with that, his command throws and his bear hug. It still boils down to me exploring his options better, but I have a good place to start now.

Thanks for the help, all of you.

Like I said: I personally think this game is a hell of alot more balanced than part 3 and the only character i would label as unusable is yoda.

We could do this all day. At the end of the day, only time will tell. I’ve been thinking about this for a while now. and I recently found that many other (long time) cass users are even saying they wouldn’t be suprised if she ends up being top mid tier.

you mean youre getting ground thrown? you can break the throws by mashing A and B, works against rock’s ground throws too

i play some nightmare too and some things i found effective against spamming were 1K, WS [ B ], 4K, and A+K sometimes. 1K, WS B seems to be a simple and effective counter since usually spammers dont stop pressing buttons after getting hit and WS [ B ] will CH and you can combo into (stance) A+B, 2A+B POWER UP. or sometimes just forget the 1K and quickly crouch and then do WS B (iWS B is the correct terminology i think) since it seems to be really high priority. then again i havent played in a while so maybe everythings different now.

imo cass has a lot of tools to win so she will never truly suck, but her biggest weakness is her short range. imo she looks better on paper than in practice, high mid tier or low top sounds about right. then again im probably biased since i play her and look more skilled if my character “sucks”.

The game will only read one throw break attempt - this isn’t like VF where you can buffer 3 throw escapes at once. It’s still a 50/50 no matter what you do.

And Carbunkle Flux, you can buffer in any 8-way run moves by tapping the direction twice, holding it the 2nd time, then pressing the button. The whole motion needs to be performed as you’re about to recover, not hard at all though.

Also, with Asta, 6AB is a risky but sometimes good way to get opponents off of you. It’s 12 frames, and the B combos on counter-hit; this in turn gives you a guaranteed ax pickup off the ground, which adds up to 65 damage total.

Oh I didn’t know. I just always tried to get up real fast with no luck.

Haven’t been here in a while. Seems some shit went down in the last thread. Not here to start any of it back up; I only want to say: If you can’t be civil about it, put up or shut up.

You see, it can turn out to be a fun and very entertaining experience for ALL of us. Maybe except the one getting his ass kicked.

k, done.

Concerning throw-breaking, people have patterns–be it the thrower or the throwee. If you are the throwee, see which throws your opponent does more of and make it a point to break that button more. Know the breaks for their RO and RRO throws and break those buttons if they’re ever in the prime position to throw it out. If you are the thrower, and your throws are getting broken a lot, it means you either need to get better at mixing up your throws, or your opponent is a damn fine guesser. In most cases, it’s usually the former. Work on mixing up and use less expected throws (ie: RO and RRO throws) in the prime position to use them.

That was one of the saddest and funniest videos I have ever seen.

That Nightmare was on that bullshit though. I don’t mind ring outs when they just happen, but thats some *** shit when it’s you’re whole gameplan.

uh not really. It’s completely legitimate.

That’s almost like saying throwing hadoukens all day is bullshit.

To me it’s not.

EDIT^ Throwing hadoukens all day won’t win you any matches… That was a pretty bad analogy.

Well then, learn to block, learn to step, learn to play soul calibur.

Oh don’t confuse me. I know how to play. I may lose a couple of rounds to ring out gameplan people, but thats it. After I figure out thats all they’re doing then I rape them. I just think that is some gay ass shit when all you try to do is ring out.

Hahah, that MM is 100% gold.
