So, my main is a tossup right now between Hilde and Kilik. I’ve been a Kilik fan(at least in terms of playstyle) since Soulcalibur II, so I’m not sure if I want to step outside that comfort zone. On the other hand, however, Kilik is really, really lame, and Hilde is the coolest thing I’ve seen in a fighting game in years.
Kilik is fucking awesome.

In a more serious sense SC3 ARCADE EDITION is more solid in the long run imo. 4 took a step in diversifying their characters with a specific style but it still feels quite watered down. JFs do add a neat learning curve but in terms of character frames and the like, alot more could be done to establish actual solid mixups instead of mixing up with gimmicks with certain characters.
The next patch should make everyone wild and crazy. Come on give Rock free 65% off his JF grab, add more damage to his throws… literally take a page from Wolf in VF.
Initially I posted as a complete n00b, coming from SF and so forth. I realize now that this game is different enough that any previous skill I might have coming from 2d doesn’t matter so ever. So I’ve picked up Cassandra as a main. Other than being able to do her B&B, which I’m told is 33_66+B, 4BB:A, I’m a pretty crappy player. I’ve played tons of single-player, and only one match online, which I almost won a round of, but lost (to what seemed to be a very skilled Ivy player).
I wouldn’t know where to begin, to ask for advice. I think I just need more practice, preferably offline. In the course of 20 minutes online, I got in one match.
I like the idea behind Hilde a lot, and she is very good. However, you definitely need that “Justin Wong/Ricky Ortiz” mentality to play her. Ricky playtested her, actually.
An important thing to keep in mind: Button mapping is legal in all North American SC tournaments. With Hilde, you can and should take advantage of this by mapping an extra A and B button. This will allow you to break throws and attack while charging; note that you still lose your charge if you do this, which is probably the one thing that keeps her from being broken.
Some high-level players think Hilde is top-tier, but the majority seem to disagree. I am skeptical mainly because she’s so dependent on ring-outs (making her vulnerable to stage counter-picks) and she loses badly to Astaroth since none of the ring-out combos work on him. Even Rock and Yoda do well against her for the same reason. That said, she’s no worse than high 2nd-tier.
Actually, come to think of it, Asta is the main counter-pick to both of your characters!

So, after playing for a while, I’ve decided on maining Taki, unless of course she isn’t competitively viable. What’s everyone here think?
I want to say she’s upper mid… She’s my main too. But I haven’t been playing SC4 since STHD came out… And then once SF4 comes… I might not have any time for SC4 ever again.

So apparently there’s a Korean SC4 scene, and they’ve just started uploading matches recently, and they are the best players I’ve seen yet. Check out TheKura0611 on Youtube to see what I’m talking about.
As with Hong Kong, there’s a good deal of character variety here, including some of the harder/less common ones (Setsuka, Taki).
Also, I know Algol is banned in France and the Dominican Republic, but not in Japan. Have no idea about China or Korea.
Lobelia - Dont play Taki. She’s complete ass. Well, not complete ass. But there are better characters. I’ve been maining her for a while now (ending 2, and all of 3.) I’ve been wanting to change characters now, because i am just simply out of gimmicks and tricks, but my brain doesnt want to grasp another character. If you want a good character, play Hilde. She’s just amazing.
China has not banned Algol.
Hilde is really good. So is Taki. It still boggles my mind that people rank her so low. I dunno if she’s on Hilde’s level, but she’s up there.
