Throwing this question out there, if a stick has a metal faceplate, can you just skip the mounting plate all together ?
I think you can. You would have to drill screws going through the metal face plate if they aren’t already there, but yea.
Is it possible to put an LS56 octogate on an LS32? I’m not digging the octo gate that came with the LS32, and I’m so used to the LS56’s gate.
no its not possible. at least to my knowledge.
No, the LS-56’s gates and pcb/switches are only interchangeable with the LS-33 and LS-55.
Technically, the LS-32 doesn’t have an octo gate available for it. Rather, it has a round/circle gate, the difference being the absence of the 8 little notches to feel each direction. Alternatively, you can remove the gate altogether and have a larger circle, though the throws are rather large, and there has been some question as to whether doing so unduly wears down the actuator and/or pcb.
There never existed an Octagonal Guide for Seimitsu LS-32(-01).
But for that Joystick, it does come with Square Guide, and a 2-4-8-Way Restrictor Plate.
You are right about the Seimitsu LS-56(-01) having Octagonal Main Guide available.
That Octagonal Main Guide can be used on LS-33, LS-55(-01) also.
But it cannot be used on the LS-32(-01) and LS-40(-01).
You maybe look at this?

Last Post of that Thread.
I’ll have to try that out. I do have a JLF Octo here. I thought the blue gate that came with my LS32 was a partial octo, I kept wondering why it didnt fit in there properly.
Thanks for the info, guys.
Does anyone know how much you need to trim a JLF shaft cover to get it to properly fit a sanwa bat top? I don’t want to trim too much and end up having it loose.
Sorry if this has already been covered but I tried skimming the thread. I have a TE stick and I’m trying to get a stiffer, more American feel out of my stick and I’ve heard that the Seimitsu LS-56 with an hex gate is probably the way to go. I do realize I’ll need a mounting plate from a LS-32.
What I’m curious about is will the Sanwa bat top be able to fit it?
Or should I just stick with the JLF and tighten up the spring as shown in the ultimate mod vid? It does seem cheaper than buying a whole new part and two springs sounds better than one.
Damn I guess the post right before mine says it all.
Cheap_Scrub, I’ll say that it’s probably best to get yourself an LS-32-01, an LS-32 round main and sub guides (perfectly circular gate! No corners!), and possibly extra springs if you’re planning on going as heavy as a Perfect 360. And as long as you buy a joystick adapter with it, any Sanwa bat top can fit onto any joystick.
Ahh thanks. Yeah I’ve heard a lot of people say the LS-32 has a better feel, but I’m really a sucker for that octogate. I shift a lot with lap play and the main problem I have with the square gate is hitting true left/right/up/down single directions. Not always but often in the heat of the moment when I need it. And I don’t really play characters with 360 motions much anyway.
You realized not.
Putting a Seimitsu LS-56(-01) does indeed need a different Mounting Plate.
But the Seimitsu RE Mounting; used on LS-32 and LS-40(-01); will not fit on LS-56(-01).
Seimitsu SS Mounting Plate; used on LS-32-01; will not fit the LS-56(-01) either.
You will need a Seimitsu MS Mounting Plate to replace the default Seimitsu VF Mounting Plate of LS-56(-01).
Seimitsu MS Mounting Plate is default on LS-33, LS-55(-01).
Oh yes.
I overlooked your other question.
Sanwa LB-30N will fit.
Need Thread Adapter.
Whoops, thanks a ton man. This is a bit daunting jumping right in. Lots of similar numbers and such got me confused. Really helped to have someone explain it directly to me.
you shouldnt need to at all
The Shaft Cover does need to be cut if want to use with Sanwa LB-30N.
Yes, if you tighten down the bat top with the stock JLF shaft cover on, it restricts the movement of the stick. Just wondering if anyone had a certain measurement they trim off, like 2mm or something?
never? on blue restrictor you see octagonal, now it is only fake but this fake is made when octagonal exist on LS32 on '80. same thing on yellow restrictor on LS40 many time ago have circle. this stick have throw to engage 2:1 it is parameter for circle restrictors for correct diagonals.
people on this forum told the same “never” 1-2 year ago when someone asked about octagonal restrictor for LS56, because nobody sell this, but SEGA use it on Virtua Stricker.
About the hole in the panel for the shaft, it seems everybody goes for 24mm. Is there a reason for this?
I’m not planning on using any 24mm buttons for my stick. Will it be ok to drill a 30mm hole for the shaft or will I need a 24mm hole saw? I don’t have one and if a 30mm is fine I won’t buy one just for this single hole.
I know, I agree with you kowal.
I messed up when typing Post; did not save Edit Post.
You know a lot of things, and I read everywhere.
Does anyone know if Sanwa manufactures the SDM-18 in a black color? Lizard lick only carries red and white: http://lizardlick.com/images/for_sale/pushbuttons/sdm_18_w.jpg
Akhibara Shop doesn’t even list them.
Was also wondering if anybody knows if Sanwa or Seimitsu manufacture a mini joystick version of the JLF series or soemthing similar. Any help would or direction would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: After a bit of more research on the web I can’t find any trace of them other than somebody who made a custom stick using a black one as a sync button.
