This is probably my strongest match up, but then my footsie’s and reaction are pretty good without being a dick about it. I think one of the basic key’s in the mirror is to not be the guy that backs off and try’s to "zone"
because the corner is a terrible place for Ryu to be. You should be the one pressing the advantage right from the start, playing the pressure game or at a very minimum, not continually backing off.
Getting into sweep range and using st.hk to stuff fireballs is also pretty strong.
How would you fight yourself? How would you approach someone with the exact same tools as you?
Whiff punishing is easiest in the mirror. Since we have the same toolset, we have the same ranges. If your standing at a distance where say your low mk whiffs, then his will too. So set these spacings up by utilising the push back from a blocked normal(s) which will set you up at the range where common pokes will whiff and then be ready to sweep them once you see they start up one of those normals.
Jump short > 2 lights> CR.MP
This all blocked sets up the ideal ryu footsies range almost against all characters. It makes all of ryus buttons whiff here, it’s perfect to wait and let them press something to whiff and then punish it. Or you can throw a fireball here since it will be like a poke and stuff anything they press.
Aside from that you just play solid fundamental ryu. You walk him down and push him towards the corner if he backs up. You parry any fireballs from mid to far distances as you push in. You anti air any Jumps and you pressure with your normals and fireballs at footsies range.
When you knock down you go for meaties, and treat ryu like you would anyone who has a reversal, you respect it but you don’t allow it to prevent you from pressing your advantage. It’s okay to eat a few wake up or mashed dps when you pressure them, as long as you return the favor, and that you know when they respect yours and just block on your wake up, you throw their ass
Bison’s been difficult for me, with his ability to reflect fireballs into a 2x-hit projectile at twice the velocity and his ability to vary his headstomp trajectories. His normals are strong and his ability to rush in and rush back out make him frustrating to fight.
Not trying to sound rude mate, but Bison for me has been a rather simple match up. Definitely one of Ryu’s easiest. When you start to punish his dash on reaction with throw or buttons, things look so much more even. He can’t reflect fireballs at close quarters and his headstomps are easily punishable with V Skill, neutral jump or back jump any button or MP SRK. As for footsies try using Hadokens during footsie battles.
It’s super easy to bully bison. Free jumpin’s at the right distances. Free pressure on knockdown, free DPs on jumpin and free fireballs up close.
I honestly don’t even bother parry headstomps. A good ol’ delayed DP to the face will stuff both stomp and devil’s reverse if he chooses to use it. You only have to watch out for his df+hp and st.hk meaties and CC setups as well as AA (and reversal) CA if he has full meter. Don’t let him scissor kick (light is -4, mk is -3, hk is -2) for free. Press cr or st lp or vreversal to reset the field. Also don’t let him df+hp for free, it’s +1 but not a true blockstring. His dash is reactable once you have an eye for it like Intuitive2011 said above.
I think he loses to Dhalsim as well and possibly Cammy, but yeah I’m really not sure either.
I’d agree with Nash and Birdie (only just slightly). I don’t think he loses to Rashid, I think he’s on the poorer end of the spectrum strength wise.
I’d say he beats R-mika clean but she’s such a fucking lottery you might aswell just put all her matches 5-5. He has all the tools to stop her, just you have to play pretty on point because she just needs one clap.
Guile I think feels like he should win, better fireballs, better AA, better damage. Just feels like he should dominate Guile.
Zangief obviously loses. Fang I think doesn’t do enough damage to keep in it. I think he might possible beat Vega too - just get’s zoned out.
Agree that Rashid is weak, but you have a very specific spot on screen where you can throw fireballs, and i think Rashid wins everywhere else on screen.
He has a better risk reward on his pokes, and his up close pressure is pretty crazy.
I find him very difficult to control. However I think a lot of Rashid players are bad and don’t really understand not going full yolo all day, or playing at the full other extreme and playing too safe. I think if he were being played by someone who knows and understands when to take risks, more people would have a different view.
Try this. forward,down-forward,down,down-back punch also i just started experimenting with this, if its ambiguous i do forward,down-forward,down,down-back,down-forward,down-back plink strong and foward, to get a dp or parry.
