The Rufus Thread

Hit stuun deteriation kicks in when th opponent gets launched. It can be a command launcher or the :hp:+:hk: launcher

Alright so we have our first taste of Rufus (At the 40:00 minute mark) and here are some observations of mine:

*As expected everything he does seems faster and he can even chain his cl.mp into his cl.hp
*Going from very early impressions he seems to be very damaging and takes less damage than average from others
*Although he himself got faster, his dive kicks seem a little slower in comparison which could be very bad
*He can now combo into non ex messiah kick off a cl.hp. Also Messiah kick light follow up still looks VERY punishable.
*Glory Kick(The rolling kick command attack) is in
*Galactic tornado retains it’s projectile nulling powers and has been updated with this whirling effect surrounding Rufus
*Although this video doesn’t quite demonstrate it, Rufus combo options seemed to have expanded big time. Possible light snake strikes or crouching attacks into full combos?

Things to look out for:

*Super art combos. Just how comboable will this move be? In SSF4 it’s basically a utility hyper with some combo options but in SFXT it may be able to have the best of both worlds. Will it have full hits on airborne opponents? Does it still combo fireballs? Will it be as comboable as the other super arts in this game? Only time will tell.
*Vulture kick (his overhead) will it be in and will it still be able to avoid low attacks like in SF4? And most importantly, can Rufus combo from it?
*EX Messiah kick and the messiah kick follow ups. Anything different? Better? Worse?

Stray observations:

*Looks like he has an awesome intro just like before. “My fists will give you amnesia!” Rufus proclaims as he starts the fight looking more energetic than he’s ever been.
*Tag in and tag out animations are as hilarious as expected.

Alright that’s all from me for now. Anything you guys found? If so post it. The more info the better, here’s hoping for more very soon. Rufus is basically THE dive kick character of SF right now and his inclusion marks his second appearance. Hopefully Capcom does him proud.

I was thinking if you put bob and rufus you can get some unblockables. Im saying that because bob has the exact opposite of messiah kick.

Will try this guy out, Rufus can be an incredibly daunting character if his pressure game is utilized.

Rufus gameplay

Now that it is here in Youtube form, it is time that we point out stuff.

All new Rufus gameplay with a ton of cool new things that he can do(including a nearly full screen EX GT wall bounce!!!).

New observations:

*Can combo launcher from very far away with standing mk into launcher. Might have one of the best launchers out there.
*Fragrance Palm is waayyy faster but still hits the opponent very far away. Looks good for corner pressure.
*Overhead looks faster but no confirmation on whether or not you can combo out of it.

  • L Snake Strike looks like it will be far more useful up close than ever before
  • EX GT WALL BOUNCE!!! The combo potential hehehehe.

Speaking of combo potential…

*Combos into launcher look pretty effective with Rufus.
*Big bang Typhoon has a cutscene now? Does this mean it will work as an anti air in this game?

There is some bad news though… Judging from that vid it looks like Rufus no longer has super huge win quotes. I really hope this isn’t the case.

That’s all great stuff, especially EX Galactic Tornado wall bouncing. Oh the possibilities. Wonder if you can do EX GT, Falcon Kick/EX Snake Strike> Tag Cancel?

So it looks like you can combo into Big Bang Typhoon, well at least off of a corner wallbounce. It also goes into a cutscene upon connecting which is great news. Damage was great too, shaving more than 50% off a solo combo. Also, dive kick stun looks insane in this game.

That damage is ridiculous. It’s almost twice the amount other characters are dishing in that video.

I’m really inclined to pick Rufus up, specially considering he’s the only dive kick character in the game.

Howarang has a divekick(For whatever reason)

he does but from the looks of it, doesn’t have any use

Errr so we have this new Rufus gameplay, but Gamerbee is so terrible this almost isn’t even worth posting.

Salvageable observations:
*Standing heavy is still launches people high. Hopefully you can combo into it to land his super
*Can get 2 hits off of Galactic Tornado on a juggle state opponent
*Crouching heavy still has huge range
*Heavy follow up to messiah kick is punishable D:

So I sort of got something new from this I guess. His cross art is shown here if you’re interested.

huh, Law has a one hit chicken wing.

Rufus looks pretty solid so far.

Haha! More Rufus footage and this time it’s better! Although this guy does have a really bad rolento but that’s understandable.

Observations:
*Ex Messiah Kick multi hitting attack yet again but no indication of invincibility frames are there ATM. Gets beat by EX SRK.
*Medium kick follow up looks safe still which is great since at least he has one safe option now
*Still no confirmation on instant dive kicks yet but they seem to have a lot of stun and frame advantage this time around
*Jumping Heavy Kick into EX snake strike no longer works :frowning:
*Rufus’s throw game looks as good as ever, but the damage is so pitiful in this game I don’t know if it’s worth it

So that’s all I got from that vid. Hopefully I can find more from that fight club, maybe some of Ortiz playing but that’s not likely.

EX Messiah gets beaten by ex shoryu in SF4 as well.

  • ex messiah still has inv frames
  • ex ss works after jump heavy just person in vid had bad timing
  • Dive kicks hitstun is high for now, the dive kick in general is different in each build, some have faster dive or slower others same dir hitstun/blockstun
  • Grabs in general are in the damage limbo, if tech grabs do to much it’ll be to sf4 mix up jab jab short grab kinda thing.
  • Most of Rufus’s normals have same or similar speed, theres alot people haven’t experimented with or shown that once they do it’ll be amazing to them. Hint, Rufus… is basically a tekken character.

Thats all for now  long live Rufus

Nice, according to the storyline, Rufus was the canonical winner of the last tournament. Aww yeah.

Nah, he’s talking about the American National Tournament. Isn’t his beef with Ken because he won that tournament and Ken is a past winner and still regarded better or whatever?

Maybe Heihachi has crap health?

He’s the winner of the North American championship, which if you’ve kept up with your SF story, is different from the main tournament.
