I really like how in a corner j.MP will put you infront of your opponent when if you pressed MK you’d jump behind and cross up.
As a result there’s no way of the opponent knowing which way to block until the button itself is pressed. I usually go with the j.mp for the moment since people usually expect a crossup and you can get more damage out of falling on this side in the corner, but I expect I’ll have to mix it up more often.
Either way it seems relatively safe against most characters and a free way of getting a 50/50 shot at an opening.
I don’t think he’s as bad as y’all are trying to make him out to be :x
Yea his mix-ups aren’t as good as other characters in the game…but I don’t think he’s SUPPOSED to be that kind of character.
Rolento is all about control space with his great pokes and frustrating your opponent to hell by getting a few hits in…then chilling out, and he does this very well. Try not to focus on his “mix-ups” or lack there of…and focus on what makes him a great character. Pokes, Controlling space, Mobility… and annoying your opponent to no end. :3
I’ve been using Patriot Circle M instead and having mostly no trouble…however, at max max max range of c.MK, Patriot Circle M will whiff. I haven’t gotten a chance to see if H Circle hits in those circumstances. I mostly use this combo/setup at about round-start distance against fireball-happy people. You get all day to flip over their projectile and punish them.
That’s day one stuff, so yeah we knew. If you jump in deep enough (or cross up) it’s better to use a standing roundhouse before the forward too. You can also do a standing forward~roundhouse chain after the last circle for slightly more damage (373), but it’s a lot more reliable to just slide at the end (366).
I don’t really see the purpose of the strong circle. Jab is for when they are block heavy and you’re just fishing, and firece for for every hit confirm. There’s no reason to use anything but fierce in an actual combo. I guess if you’re at max jab range then the strong would be better for block strings, but other than that I don’t see the purpose.
I often get 10+ win streaks with Rolento in Ranked. Doesn’t matter if I use Rolento/Ibuki, Rolento/Kazuya, Rolento/Hugo or Rolento/Law.
But these wins don’t feel rewarding. It’s just hitconfirm into c.mk xx p.circles, c.hk all day and when meter is full: p.circle -> cross-art for loads of easy damage.
Tried Law/Ibuki yesterday and had a 13 loss streak…
how was his rolento i miss that WNF, i need to find a good player who plays rolento so i learn from watching videos since i don’t get much offline and tourney experience. Online warrior describes me perfect, even tho i hate being one. I was going to learn from watching combofiend but it seems as of the last night WNF he was using juila instead of rolento.
does anyone have tech to deal with stupid jab pressure from characters with good jabs? his reversal is terrible and requires meter, his normals are usually to slow to get through, and his backdash is way too slow to escape anything. just blocking just puts you in a bad situation and wastes time. The character is good when he is putting on pressure but god damn shotos and characters like rufus and cammy maul him. With a bar, ryu can dp whenever he wants during rolentos pressure and get big damage or a safe tag out. I’m really out of ideas on how to deal with it. A character with a good reversal seems to have a much better advantage at this point.
But why is it that if I put a jab (s. or cr.) in front of cr.forward is it so much harder to cancel into Patriot Circle? I can do cr.forward > Patriot Circle all day — why wouldn’t anyone be able to do that — but as soon as I put a jab in front of it I can only cancel into PC like one out of five times. Does that make the timing more strict or something?
I started trying to see if I linked the jab and forward if it’d work better than simply chaining them as fast as they can go and that seemed to help, but I don’t really know. Thanks!
im not at home otherwise i would test it, but is normal mekong delta escape doable inbetween jab pressure? I had thought ex would work, been thinking of shit all through this class lol. The normal version looks like it comes out really fast, maybe timing it in between pressure could get you out?
right on, its definitely the weakest part of my game right now. have some ideas to improve my footsies and spacing, but being able to get out of a situation guaranteed is something i need to incorporate. ryu’s pressure is insane, especially with being able to cadc everything.
I know Rolento is super rush down, but I really love building meter with lp.Mekong Delta roll. You can build so much meter just rolling back and doing Stinger to keep them out, then if you’re feeling like they are getting too impatient you can throw out an EX Mekong Delta Attack to get close safely
So after watching Infil play him at NCR I think Rolento works much better as a footsie character rather than a mixup character. I mean, it doesn’t take a lot to see through pogo stick shenanigans (and they can easily be beaten with a reversal).
make sense, although it good to have the pogo mixups to use every once and while. i really need to find those matches i did not see him play on Saturday and i miss most of Sunday.
