What’s our gameplan against characters that have strong anti-air options? I’m finding it hard to mix people up who have good AA normals or DP-style moves (i.e. Hwoarang, Juri, Zangief) that can shut down pogo shenanigans and j.MP.
What’s the best gems to use on Rolento?
There is no such thing imo. But I simply use: speed, dmg, onslaught all activate with 3 specials connected. I mostly play 2v2 (1) online and find that I want my gems to activate after the first Rekka hit-string xx mixup. If the first mixup hits I’ll go on with Rolento into 1 more mixup. During my next combo I’ll tag my partner in to try and get his gems going. This is just an overall gameplan and will vary during different matchup’s or if Rolento takes dmg.
But it ppl want different things out of the gems:
dmg, dmg, meter
dmg, dmg, speed
meter, meter, dmg
meter, meter, speed
The one’s the activate if your moves are blocked 4 times I find really strong.
Hope this gives you an idea
I finally got to try sfxtekken yesterday. During sf4 - through AE I only played sagat, but now I guess I’m forced to “widen my horizons” so to speak. Surprisingly, I didn’t, in the beginning, like the way sagat felt at all, so I tried several characters, but rolento quickly stuck out as someone I might enjoy playing with. It’s a nice change of pace after having been so slow for all these years. I wonder whether the reasons I enjoy rolento so much is that he is seemingly “easy” to play with at first, or whether it’s due to me finally actually finding a character who “just feels right”. I love the thought of my character being all about shutting down my opponents options and controlling space, not to mention finally being able to out-poke my foes. The downside I see so far is that he looks like he can be quite a popular character and seemingly high on the tier list (I wanted to enjoy the novelty of playing a lesser played, out-of-the-spotlight character and also to avoid being in the situation I was in with sagat - that everyone you play know the matchup really well). Also, I really hope there is depth to this character. When I tried him, it was really easy just to rely on his pokes, patriot circle, s.mk to take matches down, but I guess this will change in due time.
I’m looking forward towards seeing how my rolento/sagat team will work out, but I’m excited:)
I think it depends more on your team than Rolento himself. I use Ryu/Rolento and I equip them both with onslaught/proficiency gems so that I always have meter for switch cancelling.
stop jumping, walk up to them and use rolento’s superior normals to win on the ground.
its giuliani time!
rolento with the janitor outfit is funny.
when he does the d+mk, trick landing and qcb+p followup, it makes a plunger suction sound.
justin volpe would be proud
Lore question. What’s canon now: was he born in (East) Germany or USA?
BROlento so godlike. His mixups are down-right cheap!
His mixup is cheap? This is a character that has next to no mixups against anyone really good
He gwta worse and worse by the day. Already planning on dropping him for someone with actual mixups
Now that everyone can block every pogo mixup, everyone just blocks your jab into rekka pressure and then backdashes or ex counters…he’s meh now
i am going to agree he got good normals and AA and wiff punishes but damn can he be zone out hard. that the most trouble i am having playing him right now.
Midtier footsie character.
He can lock you in the corner once he gets you there thoufb with stand HP, stand mp antiair, stand mk buffer HP hitconfirm to laubcher, pogo hold down and press mp, jump back lp antiair
Btw I’m pretty much at the point of only using jump jab unless I’m tryin.g to crossup or get an obvious HP opening, or against Hugo…obviously use jump mp a lot to bait and own superarmor. Jump jab has no forward hurtbox and counterhits in air to airs all day
Not sure if this has been mentioned, but I’ve seen a few people after switch cancelling and having Rolento come in, they do something like cr.mk into patriot circle, which does around 190 damage. A slightly better followup is st.lp>st.lp>cr.mk>Slide. Pretty much impossible to mess up, and does around 230 damage. Not much difference, but every little bit counts. It’s also easy to replace the slide with a super for more damage.
ex patriot circles is safe on block
I don’t even see Rolento being worth the meter to switch in (of course YMMV depending on your second character), and you’re better off trying to cross rush him in. There are also more damaging options than what you’re suggesting (although it’s still better than the typical c. forward > circle).
If you are anywhere between the corner behind you and just slightly beyond half screen, s. roundhouse, c. forward ~ c. roundhouse does 282 (* if you’re basing this off a naked 100 damage cross cancel).
Farther than that and you’re better off simply doing s. jab x2, s. roundhouse, c. roundhouse for 271.
If they are in the corner when you come in, then you would just do the first combo, but add a s. jab at the start…for 282.
Is standing MP the only thing we have for anti-air???
he also has far st.hk and cr.HP as anti air
J. jab is probably his best AA.
Loving Rolento, it’s gonna take a few days to learn him. But it’ll be worth it. His mobility is so awesome.
whelp…LA Joe’s Rolento on Wednesday’s night fights yesterday pretty much said to me: damn my rolento sucks ._.
