The Rolento General Discussion Thread

On wake-up you either block or spend meter to get away. If they are crossing up any other time then you could try to sweep and move away a bit. If you have two bars and need to switch you can try EX circle and switch cancel. Your best option is to stay out of that situation.

Why is it sometimes after the Patriotx3 you can walk up jab juggle and other times it just whiffs? Is it only good on certain characters? I gave up on it practically for the sure sweep. if in the corner then i st jab, cr mk, cr hk.

I noticed early on when you hit PC point blank you can get a juggle similar to the one after an EX PC. The second you have more than one normal before the PC you can’t get it consistently so I haven’t bothered since day two. It seems to be character specific as well, but I am not sure about that. Sweep is you best option mid screen. In the corner you should be doing st hk x2, cr mk, cr hk. Or just one st hk is better than the jab.

I need to practice that because in the corner I get the second st hk, but the cr mk whiffs.
Nowadays I don’t play around in training mode for hours on end like the old times. I remember hours of just alpha3 training mode…
wife, kids, etc make that not happen.

You can hit st hk after PCx3 a lot earlier than you probably think. Plinking can help a little bit. The goal is to hit each move as early as you can. Or just do one st hk until you get comfortable with two. The important thing is that you get at least a little extra damage, even if it’s not optimal.

yeah I’m a rolento and king player

What are Rolento’s wakeup options? Besides QCB+P EX I can’t seem to think of anything.
My team is Rolento and Hugo and I find it really really annoying that whenever I get knocked down I’m free to jump ins and crossups.
I tried EX Patriot but I got hit or he landed on my back instead, can’t remember though.

Also same for Hugo, what’s his wakeup options? Is it EX Clothesline? Thanks!

Outside of EX patriot circle Roleno can only spend meter to get away. EX escape and EX air raid both have good invincibility but they get less useful the closer to the corner you are. With Hugo, all I know is that EX backbreaker is invincible so it’s good to catch jump ins, lariat has armor which can be useful, and EX moonsault press has invincibility.

With Rolento you are usually better off just blocking than throwing meter out to get away.

quick question: does Rolento have any reliable air to air normals ? I seem to get between A LOT by other people’s normals (specially Julia’s j.HK)

j.lp beats pretty much everything

hmmm weird…
does it have to be a neutral jump ? because I was talking about forward jumps…

yeah it’s neutral j.lp. I use j.hk for forward jumps. it seems pretty good…

hello fellas, i have a question, did you notice that the frame data states that cr.mk is +1 on hit and +3 on block?? i almost certain that its not +3 that or cr.mk is very weird on the recovery. sorry if someone else asked this

What do you guys do after a tag in?

It’s a typo. +1 on hit -3 on block.

how are you guys taking on ryu? whats your approach to this matchup??

Lots of st mk. Anti-air everything you can to let Ryu know that he will not be getting in on you that easily. After a knockdown, neutral jump pogo makes reversal srk whiff. If Ryu goes for a lot of cr mp and cr mk then a raw launcher can be a nice surprise for them. Jumping in and doing pogo before reaching them is a decent way to bait srk. Always be on the lookout for a Ryu that mashes out of your block strings and try to bait that as well.

The most important thing when playing against any fireball character is patience . Work you way in there and do yoru best to push Ryu to the corner and shut down his options. Just don’t be too hasty or you will eat a lot of fireballs.

thanks for the advice mario

Does anyone have any tips on how to use the mix ups with jp.downMK/ KKK on landing? I just can’t seem to get control over which direction Rolento will exit into after these moves.

hehe still no nerfs on rolento yet
