There will be a $5 Entry Fee now for everyone who attends Don’s Arcade NO EXCEPTIONS. BUT MONEY MATCHES ARE ALLOWED NOW

First of all I would like to thank everyone who contacted me and texted me for their support. I’m fine. I’m just taking it easy right now.

So shit happens and I had to get away from everything for a while to gain some perspective. But the good news is that peace, order, and sanity is restored. Everything is forgiven on all sides and I will try to lighten up and not be too serious.

I like holding gatherings and I like hosting. I like opening my doors to the So Cal community because So Cal is my home and I believe that So Cal has the second best players in the whole world next to Japan (Hopefully we’ll be better then Japan in the near future). This is a big reason why I hate banning people because I don’t want to break up the community and I want everyone to feed off each other. The gatherings are suppose to be a positive thing and we don’t need any more negativity. Life already has enough negativity.

So I plan to reopen in November or December but I want to address an issue: And that is about money matches.

I like the idea of having money matches. I think money is a good motivation. I think players who invest money in their street fighter matches are generally better then players who don’t. Reading all this stuff about Gamerbee and Filipino Champ and all their money matches is pretty exciting.

So here is my proposal.

If I allow money matches at my place on Fridays I have to charge an entry fee to everyone. Probably $5 a head. I think this is fair for me.

If I don’t allow money matches, then it will probably be a free arcade as it once was. But I’m kind of getting bored with this format.

Ultimately the decision is mine but I would like to know how all of you in the So Cal community feel about this.

So I would like to thank everyone for their support and I hope I will see all of you again in a month or two.

The reason why these players don’t have to pay is because IMO of their incredible skill level in SSF4/3S. They are allowed to get in free based solely on their top tier skill level. For me they are the cream of the crop at my arcade and I encourage them to join the gatherings every Friday so everyone can play them so they can learn and level up. So if you VIP guys do come over to my place, please don’t sandbag. Give everyone their money’s worth. Women are free because there’s only like one or two of you lol. But I wouldn’t mind if there were more even if they just sat there. So players or not, women get in for free.

Everyone is still invited and people can still bring friends if they want to. There is no limit. But unless you are on the list above, you must pay the $5 entry fee. No exceptions. Once you go through the door you have to pay me before you play any game. You have to find me and pay me. I want to trust all of you. I don’t want to bother you for your money but I will if I have to. Every night I’ll make a list of the people who pay. If you play and you don’t pay me, it’s considered stealing and I will kick you out. Maybe for good.

Money matches will be conducted on the PS3 Asus monitor setup only. So if people want a money match and there is casuals going on on the PS3 Asus monitor set up, we will kick out the people playing to make room for the money match players. The last three setups are for casuals.

So yes I am definitely leaning toward charging an entry fee now when I do open up in the next month or so. So yes I am warning you guys now because I know going from free to paying can be very dramatic news. But I think $5 per person is very reasonable for unlimited free games for 9-10 hours. And arcade rules are definitely in effect so everyone can play. Who knows you guys might play harder now that there is money on the line.

I’m sorry I can’t do this for free anymore. I realize that charging might make me so unpopular. But I think charging $5 a person is fair. But in order for this to work I do need the support of the community. I realize that charging might draw some criticism but this is the way it is now. Also a lot of people who have texted me said that they were willing to pay me $5 to $10 if I opened the arcade again. And also you got a chance to win money if you decide to have money matches. You could win your entry fee money back.

So this is most likely the way I’m leaning when I reopen again in a month or two. I know it’s sad but I gotta do it this way from now on. So I’m just dropping this bombshell on all of you guys now so that it can linger and you will know what to expect when I do open the arcade again in a month or two. Sorry guys I have a new way of doing things. I hope this won’t be true but perhaps the average number of persons who have been going to my gatherings might drop because it’s no longer free. We will see. Don’t get me wrong, I love it when everyone comes over and I want everyone to come over still, but I don’t feel right anymore doing this every week for free.

On the bright side during the Holiday season my neighborhood has a festive atmosphere so you could go walk around and see the Christmas lights and meet a lot of chicks walking around in my neighborhood lol. There’s also a lot of couples walking around so you guys can bring your gf’s too:)

I’m down for the $5.00 entry fee, but I disagree with giving the above mentioned free entry. They are just players too. If there is to be something like that, make it something you earn, by winning 20 matches in a row you get free entry the next time. Or at least, don’t mention that they get in for free publicly. :slight_smile:

I’d just like to reiterate this for those who haven’t been to Sleepy Hollow in Torrance during December:

It is amazing. The amount of effort the locals put into decorating with lights is astounding. Make sure to check it out.

Kinda like how Denjin used to (don’t know if they still do) offer a free drink to anyone who won 30 wins on any cabinet. This is Street Fighter. Shit ain’t free!

In any event, good to hear that you’re going to re-open for business, Don. I heard a lot of good stuff about your place and have always wanted to show up, 'cept I live fairly far. One of these days, though!

You’re right everyone should pay no matter how good you are. That seems fair. I still got a lot to think about. I need to give really great players an incentive to go to my place so the competition still can be the best it can be. Having said that it’s only $5.00. So it should be reasonable that everyone should pay. The same amount as WNF. WNF fights has way better players then me and is overall a better get together. But unlike WNF or so I read and some other places that charge, I provide all the TE’s. You don’t have to bring anything. So if you’re in my area and you just decide at that moment you want to play, you come over and play. And sometimes when it’s BYOJ or set up, ppl leave early and take their stuff away and they run out of set ups.

So I’m still working out the kinks. It’s still gonna be pay entry most likely but I’m wondering if I should eliminate this VIP list. Women should still get in for free. There’s only two or three of them lol.

We’ll see what happens.

If you’re going to do this, make everyone pay. Everyone’s a part of the community, everyone should pitch in to keep it strong.

Free Street Fighter for 10 hours was pretty sick and a little too good to be true I admit. Paying 5$ isn’t a problem, especially since it’s one the days I’m free(damn school >_<). Don’s arcade was one of the big motivators I had to get better at street fighter. I look forward to leveling up with everyone…its been too long!!

Thank you everyone for your feedback. Keep the feedback coming. I would start again this coming Friday but So Cal has two big events planned in the next coming two Fridays. I don’t want to interfere and I encourage everyone to attend these events.

So once these events are over, I’ll start up again.

Probably everyone will be burnt out after So Cal Regionals lol. That’s ok. Everyone good luck at the big event.
