Something really exciting about BBCS is that there were some radical changes to the system - damage output lowered for most of the cast, the guard system completely overhauled, bursts completely overhauled, astrals tweaked, 6(!) new characters factoring in DLC: +50% to cast size. Plus some radical changes to characters from a system standpoint: Hakumen’s Black Hole Barriers, Nu completely overhauled and renamed. I mean, it’s not GGXXAC or anything, but it took ArcSys what, 7 games to get to Accent Core? BlazBlue is much friendlier than Guilty Gear, which has its problems (slow overheads make mixups weaker, a lot of the highest damage options are based on loops (that aren’t visually appealing) and the [!] / [!!] warning on throws is a crutch) but is still very flashy and probably the fastest-paced fighter on the market.
If you liked CT, CS is better in basically every way. The only character that is flat-out unfun for some characters is Litchi (Arakune can be, but he’s super-execution-heavy and cursing is harder now), no more Tager vs Nu/Rachel/Arakune rage matchups.
you sir have a brain, and a damn good one at that. I tip my hat to you.
on topic, SFxT probably will play very different compared to 4. I’m thinking a little more juggling than standard SF (like, enough that the metagame is changed, but still feels like SF) which will make Tekken characters fit in better too since they rely on juggling alot (to my knowledge, I don’t play Tekken, but this game may get me interested in the series!). also, It looks like there are chains in SFxT… THANK THE LORD. I love chains so much more than links! they’re more fun to pull off and are alot less frustrating!
oh wow 6 total? I like that! Tager will forever be my main, but I always like some options! and I didn’t know there were such heavy changes. those sound nice! maybe I’ll pick that up! BlazBlue has made me really like fastpaced, comboheavy fighters more, and has gotten me interested in finding Guilty Gear.
I’d say MBAA and AH3 are faster, but as of the moment yeah both are hard to obtain.
I like the little companies making games too because they don’t really have a major basis (be it characters, philosophy of the gameplay, etc) for their games. They just whip up something and hope it works and appeals to the masses for a nice alternative.
I’d also like to point out that with the plethora of fighting games that are currently and soon to be out, I hope a few of each game actually retain their love for the game and not be just eating up games like flavor of the month ice cream. If you truly believe the game is good, cherish your (relatively tiny compared to SSF4) community. MB crew demonstrated tremendous amounts of dedication despite the numerous hoops to jump over to play their game.
Tager vs Litchi is ass though, and vs Kune is still pretty terrible, but he goes 50:50 with Nu/Lambda and beats Rachel clean (just like everyone else). And with a balance patch announced at the end of the year / beginning of next year as free DLC, things are looking promising though I doubt we’ll see a new BB for a while. Guilty Gear is generally considered better, and god damn are the character designs amazing, but it’s got no real community around here in the US and lack of any sort of online for Accent Core makes it hard to find ways to get good practice in. Also, Tager does less damage but feels SO much smoother, from what I’ve played - everything is faster, and he got 2 solid new moves.
Well, there’s a reason most doujin fighters have bombed and quality is often a big part of it, but someone at my school is a huge fan of MB:AC round-robins so I’m a big fan of that game. It’s similar to BB in speed I think, not as fast as Guilty Gear but it’s hard to tell accurately.

Links vs Chains is a big thing, and it’s something I could talk for a while about, but it’s not the place here…
Over-saturated? No, not even close. When we get to the point that every company under the sun starts to release fighting games (much like how it was in the early to mid 90s after SF2 came out), then we’re over-saturated.
The fact that we won’t see Tekken Cross Street Fighter and vice versa for two years now, despite a demo being already made shows that they are prupesfully making sure they don’t oversaturate the market this time around.
That, or they have some serious tricks up their sleeve for this game that will take a while to get worked out.
No there is nothing wrong with having more games. Personally, if they aren’t going to tweak ssf4 anymore then adding characters in the arcade version/console update, I WELCOME more games to play so I wouldn’t be stuck playing Super all the time. I would like to see capcom not go any further down the “cater to casuals” hole, although.
I’m sorry you’re in denial but if you honestly believe this you have some sort of mental handicap. History shows that every game, not just SF, no matter how fucking terrible it is, will have some sort of community in the future. SSF4 is a very good game, it just doesn’t hold up with some of the older SF games (although that is a matter of opinion, there are plenty of people who think it’s way better than the older games). Just because in your opinion it’s a shitty game doesn’t mean everyone else feels the same way, I know quite a few people who grew up in the arcades with ST and 3S and a bunch of them absolutely adore SF4 and don’t have any desire to return to the older games.
There will be a community when a new game comes out, get over it and stop trolling. Some of you guys are fucking unbelievable.
I’m actually wondering the same thing right now. I’m very interested in the game, but with Starcraft 2 coming out the same day, on top of all the other fighters coming out in the next couple of years, I don’t know if I want to get serious with any other fighters than SSF4 for the time beign.
I can’t get good at more than 2 fighters at a time, and SSF4 is the mainstream game nowadays so that’s a given, now it’s just a tossup between whether I want to wait for MvC3 or just play BBCS, SxT is too far away
Not gonna lie…I was like that when vanilla came out after the first 4 months upon release. I guess i reached a state of zen after a while. I didnt care anymore—so at this moment I just expect all games to be ass that’s all. :nono:
I just believe most peeps should take the Tomo Ohira route, and just ya kinow stop playing. You saw how Jeff Schaeffer explained after Super and ST Tomo just stopped playing. Good idea if you ask me. Or just find something else to play. Things have changed I can’t say for better or worse. It is what it is.
But theres no oversaturation at least not right now. The way the FPS genre is going, and how MW2, Halo 3, and Battlefield BC2 just left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. I’m sure fighters aren’t being spammed as they were in the 90s. I’m sure 80% of the industry couldn’t even make a decent fighting game nowdays to keep up with the standards that Arc, Capcom, SNK, Namco, and a few others have put up. Many tried, many have failed.
To end this, I’m glad everone is enjoying themselves in some sort of fashion. There is a fighter for everyone. people can play what the fuck they want to play. Don’t give a fuck anymore lol. I’m salty to be frank, Shade. Concentrating on KOFXII and MvC3 right now not really looking forward to anything else but DS4. And if that don’t get announced by the end of this year or the beginning of next…by that time I wont want a sequel anymore or nor shall I to care play it. My sodium levels will have skyrocketed to unbelievable levels by then. PLus havent spent money on a game in a year thats a long time for me, and i aint missing out on nothing.
You know, when someone says “no-one”, they mean it generally, not HAHA THERE ARE FIVE GUYS IN SOMEONE’S BASEMENT PLAYING SvC YOU ARE WRONG.
I can’t help but think that the way SFIV is rolling, it quite possibly will drop off the face of the Earth once its sequel is released like contemporary console FPS. What does it offer? Are people going to go “Aw man, Focus Attacks were so cool, I need to go back and play that!”? There’s just not much unique about it.
lolol hell yeah. it’d be the funniest shit ever. especially if you hear it in an interview…I wonder if they’ll be somebody repping it when all is said and done?
Don’t forget SRK: Let’s Argue About Unimportant Minutia Edition
Stupid Retarded Kids FTL.
Addressing the original question, it would appear as though Capcom (the main contributor the fighting game glut of the mid-to-late 90s along with SNK) has learned their lesson as they seem to be limiting themselves to one major disc-based release per year and one downloadable re-release per year as opposed to 5-7 new arcade games every year like the old days. Between that and the different established subgenres within the larger genre (3D, ASW + Doujin Superfriends, SF, MK, etc.), I feel like we’ll have enough variety to avoid stagnation. Things can change very quickly, but I’m perfectly content with the current stream of releases.
And for those who are bitter that SF4 killed off their favorite game’s scene, cry more. At some point, every game’s scene dies no matter how good it is/was. 3S and Marvel only stuck around as long as they did because there was nothing else to replace it. Is SF4 the best game ever? Nope. I don’t like shortcuts or giant reversal windows either. However, exaggerating its weak points and acting like SF4 is technically worse than a 3D Mortal Kombat game or CFJ or SvC Chaos or Generally Agreed Upon Garbage Game 2 Turbo is just being childish. It may not be perfect, but it’s what we’ve got and I’ll play SSF4 over 3S 24/7/365 because there’s still some mystery. Matchups are still being figured out, tiers are still in flux, and there are still plenty of chumps’ lunch money to take before it gets boring. 3S passed that stage 5+ years ago.
If you really don’t like SF4 THAT much, fine. Opinions are opinions. Find something else to play. There are several other games that still get consistent play (if not SF4 levels) for you to learn and several more coming in the very near future. Hell, you can play 3S online on GGPO or on XBLA/PSN whenever that shows up. But stomping your feet and trolling threads because you’re bitter that a 10+ year old game that got more than its fair share of time in the limelight is now being retired is just dumb… and to be expected of SRK.
