You mean the printed Circuit board? there enough 3rd part PCBs on the market to make that a non-issue.
PCB fails? Install a new one. If your tire on your car goes flat do you say the whole car is crap and throw it out or do you change to your space and have your tire fixed/replaced?
Wouldnât make much sense if Sony locked out the PS3-era joysticks but kept the wired pads functionalâŚ?
Somehow, I donât think theyâre going to do that unless they get REALLY stupid.
I wouldnât dismiss that possibly⌠I seem to remember everybody saying Nintendo always played the smart game but look what theyâve done since the N64 and tell me thatâs a winning strategy!!!
No⌠when a company is at the top they have everything to lose if get arrogant, greedy, and really, really stupid.
Ask Atari. Sega. And possibly Nintendo after the Wii U.
Sony is winning the PR war right now what with MS making mistake after boneheaded mistake and only now is MS backtracking a bit on the used game policy for the XBox One.
Sony may also have a decisive advantage in horsepower this time, too.
(Letâs not even mention Nintendo now⌠itâs like they really donât count any more and donât drive the development of the console market, period, after the N64.)
Amazing how things are 180-degrees around this time! Pre-PS3 launch, it seemed like Sony couldnât do ANYTHING right.
IF Sony is smart, they will keep doing things to keep the hardcore gamers happy instead of hacking people off with network requirements (MUST ALWAYS be ON and ALWAYS CONNECTED!) and pronouncements on used game utility thatâs just going to piss off consumers!!!
MS just doesnât seem to understand the concept of customer goodwill. Hate to bring in âthe cult of Steveâ but this is where Apple got things right => MS understands monopoly and the idea of screwing people for every last cent but, unlike Apple, they just donât understand the idea of customer service and tailoring to audiences much⌠Iâve never understood the geek crowd that prefers a product so buggy and complicated to require a book the size of the Manhattan Yellow Pages directory to figure out!
<SIGH> Just keep the console prices below $400 launch this time, guys! Yes, most of us want launch systems that donât melt (glory days when Nintendo AND Sega were both still in the hardware gaming market) but it would be nice not to have to take out loans to buy systems this time, too.
Uhh, Nintendo is doing a pretty good job at driving the market. Thatâs why both the PS3 and Xbox 360 got motion control systems, and we know at least the Kinect will be making itâs way into the Next gen(long term impact of Wii).
Also, I wouldnât expect that either of the next gen consoles will come in under $400, the PS4âs 8gb of GDDR5 alone comes to ~$150, and while I donât know much about the Xbox One, Kinect retails for $100 alone, so that adds a large price to the console. Unless MS and Sony will sell at a loss(which I do not expect this time around, the Wii U is $300, and sold at a loss without being all that powerful) they will be closer to $500, possibly more. The main Competition for the Xbox One and the PS4 is the gaming PC(the Wii U is nice, but it mostly caters to a different group), and with the average new gaming PC $1000(unless you build yourself), the next gen consoles can still be priced aggressively even if sold above cost.
Got mine yesterday. It is defective and has some strange surface damage covering the entirety of one of the black plastic sides. Iâm hoping I can get a replacement.
The latch mechanism is much easier to close/open and holds much better. They are now ONLY using the center latch, not the supporting latches on either side like in the beta. Seems to work very well.
You can no longer push the top panel down to make the side âpopâ outwards. I can see any physical changes in the design that wouldâve helped this, but maybe they just increased the material thickness.
The USB connector at the stick is pretty cool and much more secure. It has a disconnect feature so that the wire cannot simply be pulled out by accident. Never seen anything like it.
The artwork is meh. It seems basic or unfinished, but itâs not terrible. I havenât checked, but it LOOKS like they printed the button labels on the art this time around instead of etching the plexi top.
I will try to get some pics up (and any additional changes I can think of) if I have time this week.
Its a great stick. It has weight and feels very solid. It is still pricey, and depending on how often you really mod or swap parts, the opening feature is somewhat of just a novelty, but i do like the design (aesthetically) over anything else. I also like that the top panel underneath is powdercoated black instead of raw. It looks great without any art under the plexi.
That connector looks interesting, I guess that Razer decided that the best way to address our concerns about the stick was to design a brand new connector.
Itâs good to see the little aesthetic changes, as well as hear about them like youâve described.
Looks like they hid the ribbon cable somehow (under the honey comb?) from the main PCB to the light up release button, or did they scrap the light up release button?
The cable plug looks interestingâŚbut I donât really go in for proprietary plugsâŚ
although I imagine that anyone who changes out the PCB, will probably install a Neutrik anyway just for the sake of USB A/B plugs being easily obtainable if you lose one.
Sounds good if thatâs correct about the button labels only being on the artwork, and NOT the plexi. I know that would annoy the hell out of me otherwise.
Thanks again for the mini review!
Youâre definitely helping me come to a better decision towards the purchase of one of these.
