The Razer Arcade Stick Thread!

i would have earlier but i was in class
so its definitely a spring latch and that thing that looks like hydraulics is more like a stick that holds it up like a car hood

i applied for the beta, lol.

The QD thing needs to go for sure. I also wonder how grippy the bottom is since thereā€™s no feet it seems. Looks like it may be a rubber pad but I canā€™t tell if itā€™s just a rippled bottom or not. They should add spots for feet anyway and give added customization options, some people like them quite a lot (jinx, etc.)

I really do like the amount of empty space, and the bat top holder lends very nicely for Link usage/compartment when not in use

The separate cable is nice. I think Micro USB is better for this application because it is built to withstand a lot more insertions (insert yo momma joke here). 10,000 vs 1500 for USB-A/B.

'Course itā€™s no coupled Neutrik etherCONā€¦

It looks way too much like a pimped-out TE. Like they downloaded a TE model and started modding it. The turbo panel made both my eyebrows go up. I was really surprised to see that after the Twitter comments calling out Mad Catz a while back (ā€œtime to design a REAL tournament fightstickā€). Iā€™m sure the result will be a good stick, but the more I think about it the more it bothers me.

Oog, can you imagine the nightmare youā€™d have with the prongs if they were slightly bent? Itā€™s bad enough that I have trouble with them sometimes, I just canā€™t imagine taking them off without it being unconfortable.

Not sure how I feel about that hinge. I like to take my tops completely off.

Hahaha. Iā€™m going to reccomend you. What should I put down?

He was one of the people responsible for the design of the Madcatz TE stick. Your main competitor. He will loan it to coworkers to reverse engineer, decompile, decipher the Beta Product and attempt to derive the technology for any underlying intellectual property or proprietary information, and create derivate works, enhancements, add-ons to any part of the product.

Markman shall not rent, lease, sell, sublicense, assign the whole or part of the Beta Product, and shall take reasonable care to prevent unauthorised access to the Beta Product by unauthorised third parties, because he already is the unauthorised third party.

rtdesign: :rofl::rofl::rofl: Just too funny

Having a B style connector with through hole mounting to the PCB should be how they do that. Itā€™s simple, easy for them to implement, cheap, and allows users to go with a different cable if they lose/chew up the one theyā€™ve got. Veritcal A style is just stupid from a logistics point of view, and mini is nice but they have a shitload of spaceā€¦ thereā€™s no reason to use them.

Either way, if they make the USB connector SMT theyā€™re dead from the startā€¦ because people WILL tear that shit.

I hope they improve on the aesthetics and give it a good spin, itā€™s hard to get away from looking like a TE these days.

For the .110" disconnects instead of a sold piece of plastic for both power and ground they should develop some sort of snap or slide like how you connect terminal blocks together so if you want Seimitsu you just slide the two disconnects apart to fit the buttons

I think thatā€™s just MS America. Hori makes a wireless stick in Japan that is a standard stick, not limited like the T6; I believe that it is licensed. (see: http://hori.jp/items/detail.php?id=894)

[edit] Although, it doesnā€™t really matter what branch, because this stick (meaning the Razer) will be both American and Japanese; itā€™s gonna be wired.

Iā€™d like an angled top, six button Astro, row of buttons at the top for LB/RB/Start/Back, and a mini-USB connection (because Iā€™ve already got cables next to my TV for DualShock3 controllers).

More Namco, less TE.

Interested to see where this goes, but right now, it just looks like a low-rider TE with that hydraulic.

I like the ease of customization. Not sure about how easy is it to open. Hate to hit that latch while playing. Maybe move it somewhere less prominent on the stick? I like the detachable cord with the storage inside and the slot for extra buttons and balltop. I donā€™t think the design being similar the the TE is a bad thing. That stick has by far the best ergonomics of any stick Iā€™ve played with. So far it looks promising, but this still will fly or fall because of its internals. Sanwa is a good thing making it harder to swap out with seimitsu isnā€™t. Hoping for a common ground PCB. Good prototype if they keep building on it based on the communities feedback we could have another great stick option.

Yeah the button latch release in the front kida bothers me. I mean i like the fact that you can easily get to it, but i just donā€™t like how you might it it during play, would work much better if it were in the front side away from the panel. Matter of fact they should reverse it with the hinge on the side close to you, and have it flip out towards you so itā€™s easier to work with. (iā€™ve always been annoyed with having the panels flipped away from you, makes it a little more difficult to mod with the awkward position. (the cables should be long so that it doesnā€™t restrict the movement. Having hinged or somewhat being secured would nice, so that you can screw/unscrew parts easier.

It also definitely looks too much like the TE at this point, and Iā€™m not sure they even need a turbo panel, i donā€™t think anyone actually ever uses them anyway.(unless youā€™re playing shootemups or something) without it they can make a much cleaner design. Iā€™d imagine them to design something a lot sleeker looking, and more unique to their brand.

Love the compartmentalized interior. Would be nice to have a little space to put my custom balltops =) Not sure about the bottom being a once piece rubber thing, you wouldnā€™t be able to do a custom bottom panel very easily. Also iā€™d prefer something like the jinx feet. Would be cool to have an LED option set up for the buttons, but costs and iā€™m not sure if everyone would want them.

PCB should definitely be common ground so itā€™s easy to mod, and itā€™d be nice to have an easy access, moddable terminal block connecting the wires with regular qdā€™s, so then you could swap out buttons / sticks with ease.

Definitely has potential tho

if i get one, iā€™m definitely rewiring this thing and getting rid of those custom harnesses for caterpillar wiring

it definitely reminds me of a combination of a TE + VLX thatā€™s for sure.

One thing nagging me though is that the outer shell looks like its extremely flimsy if it is made of plastic.
If it was made of metal though it would be a different story.

why no PS3 version??

it is most likely metal, looking at the construction

I donā€™t think anyone should be complaining about another high quality arcade stick hitting the market. Especially considering how difficult Mad Catz and (usable) Hori 360 sticks are to get hold of at the moment.

Of course, 8 buttons would be a disappointment, as would be a very unnecessary turbo panel. But ho humā€¦

I agree with the turbo panel but cant rule out that it is fun to use on shmups

I wish theyā€™d take the TE layout for the buttons, otherwise button checks are going to be more annoying if these take off.

maybe a button config featureā€¦ take out the symbols on the panel face for a cleaner lookā€¦ <shrug>
Proā€™s dont need symbols to know what button should do whatā€¦
