Ross & Drake >>>>> most in terms of actual rapping skills. I mean, we live in an age where they can have careers, but we already lived in an age where:
-Ma$e started the shit Drake does now.
-Fabolous got his start doing features with Lil Mo, by copying Ma$e.
-People were saying Silk the Shocker’s non rapping ass was dope.
-Cash Money and Diddy started the huge focus on money / narcissistic rap.
-Jeezy got big and fell the fuck off by sleeping on competition.
-etc…
The only thing that changed is the starters sat on the bench (or died) and the replacements don’t have as much skill (debatable).
Papoose isn’t KONY and never will be. He blew his chance back when I was still in high school. smh. No album and no single aside from Touch It? Add on to the fact that he can’t make a song to save himself. Even bigger smh.
I think money and sales have taken a lot higher priority than they should have, but, money has always been a factor. Any single person that says it hasn’t is looking through some foggy rose tinted glasses. It will always be a factor. Remember how you weren’t shit unless you had a huge ass chain on? No? What about flossing in flashy outfits with pricey videos? No? What about the dopest shoes and links that cause indentations in your neck? No? What about trying to go platinum and diamond? Niggas that aren’t in the spotlight always want to use that tired line. As soon Run DMC ran that way, niggas stopped caring as much about “struggle music.” You can’t be a King of the land if you don’t have the monetary stance to back it up: you’re a peasant plotting assassination. Even Nas’ legendary self caked up. Who else you know can pay that type of shit to Kelis and not go bankrupt? Not papoose.
There is more to being a rapper than just having a hot 16. If that’s all it takes, then any person on a battle message board is king of where ever they may reside.
If your name isn’t:
-Diddy
-50
-Jay Z
or
-Nas
you aren’t KONY.
Blackstar is on Colbert Report. idk if it’s pre recorded or not.
Im going to drop my new mixtape “The Jam:90’s Ta Now So Fresh Mix” real soon.Yall gon love this…:smokin:
Will it have the B. Pimper sound bits.
It might son…im looking for a intro now…
I think what happened was Ny stopped having kings when jay ,dip set and fif where the last niggas standing. When jay lost his foothold it went down to Dipset ( a council) vs fif a general .fif alienated and used scorched earth tactics and permanently messed up Ny rap. Jay can’t lay claim cuz jay is below kanye on the totem pole now . Listen to the song big brother jay follows ye now. Jay sounds lost on tracks and uncomfortable using a borrowed flow. The real king of Ny was supposed to be cam but he fell of leaving a void and no real successors .
That whole list is bullshit my dude. Like… hold up… You niggas put a Canibus solo EIGHT FUCKING MINUTE freestyle at #40, but some wack ass group shit with Cam’Ron and Mase at like #25?
Fuck out of here.
Ma$e is fuckin dope. Im not saying this bc of the post above me, but god damn Ma$e invented swag as far as im concerned. Big Sean, Banks, Fab, Kanye, tons of others should give him mad props. Kanye actually said Ma$e is his fav rapper somewhere. Sucks how he dropped off the face of the earth… bull doesnt even have a twitter page

Oo shit youre right… LL fathered Mase… I cant get into a lot of LL’s shit man it just sounds too outdated and bores me… I got a lot of respect for him though.
IMO New York falling off is partly why the game is so weak right now. New York is like the Optimus Prime of hip hop.
And now Nujabes featuring Five Deez:

I’m not living in the past, I just remember history to not be doomed to repeat it. Like Koop said, this happened before. Trying to be super optimistic, but best case scenario, this could be part of NYC getting it’s shit together.
If NYC is truly dead, then everywhere is but Atlanta/NO/other south area basically. I think it’s more that south rap is making easy money, so it’s being pushed. That’s it, that’s all. And I can’t cosign what you say about 50. Go listen to Power Of The Dollar, then listen to Get Rich Or Die Trying, and honestly tell me he " never hopped the down south band wagon, and he stayed himself". It’s not all getting shot in the mouth, either. I respect 50, but he is guilty of this too. His new mixtape joints have been good at about a 9/10 rate, the question is how will the album sound, whenever he finally puts it out?
Agree and disagree, the bar has been lowered, a LOT, but it is trendy to be simple and coonish, that’s what gets pushed right now. Being eloquent, intelligent and/or just wordy and complex goes totally against the grain of the mainstream. Ross and Drake are competent, but nothing special at all, they’re just better than the porch monkey, jump around types that are popular now. Yeah, I said it…
Valid, my whole thing, like I said earlier, is that:
A. The “crown” was left for dead, so he’s not in the wrong to claim it, he really feels that way, and he is a skilled MC.
B. The KONY competition era had probably the best pool of MCs in the game ever, so if they have the heart to compete and take it from him, everyone benefits.
I just won’t front on him, he is doing things the "right"way, and promoting being nice with it, instead of all the things we say is “wrong with the game” nowadays. For all his failures, he has a bigger platform than most to try to improve things from the inside. Good luck to him.
The KONY title was about being the best, not just flossing or “doing it big”. Ego and pride, something that is actually good for MCing, which is lacking now. Too many clowns just trying to get a check, and getting away with it. There were always clowns, but they never lasted, and there weren’t TONS of them. Pap is going by the old standards, when the title mattered, and by those, he has a right to claim it. Again, he could get blown off the map by MC Whoever, but the air or competition would lead to better rapping, and attention for Pap and MC Whoever. Like the 90s when it was B.I.G., Jay-Z, Raekwon, Prodigy, and a few others contending, everyone came with their A-game, and it helped them all. You can easily dig up interviews where they said behind the scenes, it was love, they just brought the best out of each other. We’re all or mostly SF players, it’s like the old Empire days. They had Justin, Sanford, Yipes, X and a few other cats who were nice at MVC2. Being around each other leveled them up to godlike status, and they ran shit for the most part, not the greatest analogy, but I think it makes a decent enough point.
PLEASE PLEASE listen to mannies verse [2:07 mark]… please LMAO… i was bumpin that album yesterday an almost wrecked on his verse…lmfao

Damn yo, that album cover makes me think of Dormammu in MvC3…and ether…
I don’t think the content of the list is bs. Especially the Cee-Lo freestyle. That dude went it for real (I think it should have been placed higher than 46) but there are mass freestyles out there that are really good. But I am happy to see the list none the less.
@Kzoh - Bartending could be okay but it will take time since you will have to go through school (unless you know someone who will put you on). As far as tips and wage, it depends on where you will be working. If it is a nice spot that gets lots of business you will have a better chance at getting more tips. But good luck my dude, when I was looking for work I hit up indeed.com and just campaigned like Obama, by sending my resume to mass jobs (which is how I got on at this publishing house). it is tough but grind hard and make sure to dress for the job you want not the job you got. Good luck bruv
hahahahahhahahahah dr.strange weeps
