Honestly, I’ve learned to let go of the old Neptunes sound. It’s nice to hear it once in awhile, but we have to accept that they’ve changed. Kanye switched his shit up and so did Timbo. People grow and want to try new shit and we just have to deal with it. Hell, oftentimes cats on here criticize producers like 9th Wonder and Preemo for NOT switching their style up. I remember debating 9th’s greatness to someone and their response was,“He doesn’t really switch up his drums.”

If the shit is hot, it’s hot. Neptunes used to make beats with like 70 layers to them and now they’ve turned toward a lighter sound. The dream is over people, Pharrell and Chad have moved on. Don’t even try to use the “Pharrell is doing the beats without Chad” excuse for why they sound different either. Just let it rest.
I used to feel the same way about Dipset reuniting for DI 3, but then I realized that even if it does happen, it’s really not gonna be the same. The Big 3 are much older and though Juelz has gotten much more talented over time, Killa and Dusty Braids are sounding sickly and dehydrated over beats lately. Add to that the fact that ArabMuzik and Skitzo would most likely do all of the production and you’ve got yourself an album of repetitive beats with weathered rappers spitting over them.

The name dropping does get a little crazy, but his second album is his best. The production, rhymes and track sequencing are done very well. I know people are gonna hate on him, but I really liked Doctor’s Advocate. His third album was incredibly forgettable though, there’s no denying that.
