Also, after spending some time in training mode with Gief/Anak/Sonson, I realized that my vids did not do that team justice at all. There is so much more to that team. I watched Magnetro’s Dhalsim tutorial and applied the same dissecting mindset to the above 3 characters and team chemistry. They have SO much more going for them.
Anakaris should be killing people with one hit. He has so many mummy curse set-ups, it’s not even funny. His assist kill is simple, just takes practice. Did you know that Anak can call an assist after sj? I sure didn’t. Gold in setting up frame advantage and block chains and pure cross-ups, period. His overhead game is nothing to scoff at. Even on sj, his sj.hp will connect on most crouching opponents. He does not have a tri-jump, but he has more of a rectangle jump where he can just sj.xxad fxxsj.hpxxsj.hk. Perfecting your timing on his sj. cancel from his s.mk is a must. Also, if he had a better DHC option, say IM, one catch with idle hands would go from offering him a chance for about 24pts of dmg to about 70-80pts of dmg. Pretty sick. The best he can do on this current team, is, with his back to the corner, catch an opponenet with idle handsxxDHC to sonson’s fruit super for near 50pts of dmg. Also, his GB is cake…fullscreen. Again, better DHC option.
Gief should be going mecha asap in the face of rushdown characters. He has various assist kills set-ups and should be pummeling the shit out of assist characters if anyone dares to call one while he is in mecha form. Gief’s meter building ability is nothing to be frowned on and after going mecha, he is generally safe to build as much as he wants after sj w/ sj.hp/hkxxwhiffed spds. Mag vs Gief on point? Mag had better get first hit, otherwise Gief WILL go mecha and chase his ass down. If mag wants to jump and run and hide, sonson-aa and anak-variety will connect. If gief doesn’t feel like chasing mag, he can easily tag out to anak once mag takes to the air with sj. Free tag, free mecha gief set-up. The team is not to be scoffed at. It has chemistry and is viable. Gief has a nifty DHC off his banishing flatxxFABxxcancel FAB instantly to Anak’s b, f + PP super for near 1/2half life. He has a DHC from his FAB to Anak’s hk, lp, d, hp, lk super for a free unrollable OTG afterwards into an air comboxxb, f + PP super for a guaranteed kill on any character except maybe, maaaybe Sentinel (3 meters for the kill). This means, if gief kills your point while Mecha, and then catches your next in-coming character w/ a FAB w/ at least 3 meters and DHCs to Anak, that 2nd character is dead.
*lol his aerial rave while mecha is glitched…don’t do it. The game forces him to dash in from off-screen 2-3x. Your opponent, all the while, is free to do whatever they want during this time you can’t control gief.
Sonson should turtle and hit confirm off of gief most of the time; she should also master the application of her Super Monkey super. It has a long DHC time-frame that could scare the shit out of any character attempting to try to get near and do dmg to her (imagine trying to cross her up in this form and getting behind her only for her to DHC into gief? sucks, especially if she had 4 bars…).
Also, to correct an earlier post I made, she can not, can NOT assist kill by just repeating her lp dp move; it has to be the hp version. She is able to land and repeat before the character even hits the ground. She should use the hp dp move from fs, if necessary to carry the assist to the corner where she can continue or re-launch with HK (! has a larger hitbox than HP launcher) launcher.
Though this was a ‘random’ team, it has become one of my favorite low-tier teams yet. I should get the chance to play this team tonight, and will be sure to record some matches. I won’t do this team justice, but I should do a lot better than I did in the vids I’ve shown already.

Zangief-ground/Anak-variety/Sonson-aa
Your goal is to make the most of gief on point. Block hi/low as necessary. Use sonson-aa to break up pressure, but cover her ass by always following up with his dp+k. Use 2 lk versions if you want to avoid eating a sj.hp/hk from your opponent (worse, a LA from storm). If you realize that gief has his hands full jump, call sonson, block, land activate mecha gief, cover her. Never try to dash back with gief at the start of a match. lol You will be highly disappointed. If you are playing cable, keep gief on point go mecha (you have to man up and eat the dmg for the bigger picture lol), bait the 1 bar ahvb, tag to anak towards the end of it. Control the air w/ coffins and random mummy curse shots. He will have to think twice about jumping back and forth with idle hands posing a threat. Use your head and play smart against whatever team. Utilize your strengths, but do not fail to realize your weaknesses.

I’ve already been playing teams like that for while anyway. (anak/IM/sonson, anak/storm/sonson, anak/sonson/tron, anak/dhalsim, anak/jugg, etc.)
almost anytime gief connects, you can jump back curse.
idle hands with your back to the wall also=curse. sj. cancelling his cr.mp is actually good to do, you can sjc at 2 parts. and like with many assists/setups it leaves you in the position to do the sj air dash lp, lk juggle that leaves you with many options. of course anak. can call an assist in sj height, but only after going to nj.mode from a pyramid drop to an air dash. use sparingly
some DHCs.
with his back to the corner, idle hands, otg, super snake rush, stick super.
you can also to sj. snake rush super, DHC to big monkey (nothing to block for a bit while they are falling), FAB.
another one…launch+gief, sj.back hk, lp (gief juggles), down, lk, hp = curse super…wait to the hit right before the giant thing falls, DHC to big monkey (they are still stunned) you can do a lot of things…and depending on placement you can do a hp (uppercut) and as they fall…FAB
off of a connected FAB, right when it ends you can do the lp lp forward lk hp super with anak. you can also DHC to this after the stick super (time it right when the stick starts coming down) or after proton cannon
lol, as I said, that team is definately NOT random.
and I would suggest Anakaris/Sonson/Gief (similar to anak/sonson/tron, but less damage with added curse infinite) works much better.

When you DHC from FAB to the lp lp frwrd lk hp super, are you able to connect all of the hits or does your opponent usually recover somewhere in between the super?
I’ve played the team as Anak/Son/Gief, but don’t like the feel of the team very much when Anak dies. Lovin the gief action right now, too.
yes, off of any of those DHCs you either pick them up as they are falling (from proton cannon), hit them while they’re being hit (varying from stick super) or in FABs case, the hit while anakaris is going up will connect, then you hit. there is usually no way they can recover during that super anyway (if you’re slapping) because the slaps cause knockdown.
anakaris should mostly be first, he has so much going for him with sonson assist, gief assist for rushdown and infinite, etc. maybe you’ll like ana/gief/son instead. I personally prefer playing sonson and am more used to her

Wierd. Truth, I’ve done this DHC before and my opponent recovered mid-air and was able to block the following slaps. There must be a specific slap sequence to keep them in stun long enough. I did link the 1st slap off of Gief’s FAB, so there was no recovery in b/w my DHC activation.
Kudos to the new random team. I have to check those assists out later to see what they are. Guessing:

Sucks that Akuma has to be relied on for the aa on this team. He takes dmg like R.Kelly at a sleepover: not good.
My reasoning: Gief wouldn’t be of too much value to this team with his throw assists. It wouldn’t be wise to randomly throw him out to hope for a rush-in connect. Thus, he would be better utilized in set-ups (w/ Akuma: c.hpxxcall giefxxsj.hpxxdf kick move for the cross-up, land relaunch)
**If ken had been chosen in place of akuma, this would be a key set-up for the so-called ‘kenfinite’
edit: At the same time, you know your opponent won’t be dashing forward at Blkhrt w/ gief stompin for the grab on the ground in front of him. Blackhrt plays turtle jump back jabs to regulate the ground while monitoring the air with Akuma-aa and etc.

Not off of any of those assists. But, off the top of my head, you should be able to come up with the proper timing out of Gief Grab assist to [ j.lp, j.lp, hurricane kick] xN.
That should work ecz. Heck, even if it doesn’t (and I don’t see why not), you can just connect a gief throw in the corner and land Gouki’s df+kk super and go from there. I, personally, think the timing on that infinite is a bitch. I just can’t keep it for longer than like 2reps. Good option for a gief reset, I guess.
getting them to the corner w/ this team: HoD automatically pits your opponent in the corner right? Once there, land a gief assist throw, sj uf to get above opponents body as they are releasedxxDHC to akuma’s df+KK and infinite. Can be done, but I rarely doubt this would happen often lol
it is pretty hard. i’ve only gotten 5-6 reps tops. his jumping jab crosses up though i’ve noticed, so some mistimed infintie reps random x-up anyway. pretty useful but you’d have to figure out options from there.
