But, Ive noticed that people who play with her, tend to hailstorm too often. Ive seen matches where the player typhoons, then hailstorms. Then, do it again almost right after the previous one. There is no real benefit to doing this, since it doesnt take a lot of chip damage. Its one thing to anticipate an assist coming out, but they just randomly hailstorm. And as they will found out, they’ll need that meter for more dangerous or critical situations. Most people who do that, seem as if theyre scared or running away from something that isnt even there. I know you guys know what Im talking about. If the reason is keep away, then just fly to the top, building meter, plain & simple. There’s no need to throw out random hailstorms, that have no real objective. Shes very mobile, so keep away is very easy to do. And its not just Storm, its with Sentinel as well. He’ll do lp, lk, RP, HSF without intentions of connecting. And, in some cases, its not meant to be chip tactics. Why? Because it seems subconsiously, they fear an attack, so they do it to protect against a opponent that isnt even in the position to counter or attack. I find that really funny, because its like someone who has a basketball, and they fake pass to you, and you flinch out of control. ROFL!!!
I know in general, it really doesnt matter, cause its all contributed to a victory. But it kinda “irradicates” your composure against a opponent. You guys thoughts on this will shed a light on the issue…
random hail with storm is a really good tool. Maybe people use it because they are scared like you say, but it can really catch people off guard and hit.
i’ve seen top players get hit by three hailstorms in a row. Its not necessarily random, or not purposeful.
random hails:
may hit, keeps your opponent away, forces you opponent to block and re-start their attacking schemes, regains you position(after super you are free to move before your opponent).
It can be seen scrubby but also works in top play.
Some people just picking up Storm or Sentinal may just be working on the cancels. The timing online is way trickier than training mode because of the PITA lag. Hell they may just be lagging and seeing an opening and its just not coming out as quick as they would like.
Random hail storms are part of storm’s game, just like Cable’s random AHVBs. Except they aren’t as random as you would think, because half of the reason you do them is to keep their assist in check, by either making them scared to call or by raping them in the face with a super. The free chip is nice and part of the reason why you build so much meter with storm. Over a match all the chip-hails add up, and if even one connects it’s worth it considering how easy storm builds meter.
Personally, I generally only “random” hail when I have over 4 bars, because I want to always be building meter and can use that chip. I do however throw out a bunch more hails that go blocked because I think there’s a possibility of hitting something and that’s good enouigh. Basically, where Juggernaut has to wait for his 1 FOR SURE opportunity to super, Storm might super when she only has a 1 in 10 chance of connecting, because the chip and repositioning is worth it.
Low risk high reward, decent reward even on block.
You just need to ask one question, have you ever been hit with a random hailstorm? I know I have. So that is more than good enough reason to do them. You make them not able to hit a button safely. That means no bar buliding and no assists, then you have openings to work. She can burn a HS and build another in no time, a few sj fierce ad fierces and you’re half way there, then go up in the air and you are probably close to a bar by the time you land.
Well, Ive never been hit with a random hailstorm. As for my assist, they have. Like I said in conclusion, it really doesnt matter since its all contributed to a victory. But Im somewhat of a aggressive player wih Storm, and almost never random hailstorm. The reason they hailstorm a lot, is because they HAVE to after typhoon. Fearing the dreaded counter from Sentinel, Cable or Magneto, they cancel into hailstorm. Its cool, but Id be patience with the hailstorms, and observe your opponent’s assist patterns, then punish with hailstorms. IMO
no such thing as a random hailstorm. it’s very basic storm play. she builds meter quickly, she keeps you away, and she’ll chip your or even better catch you…but worst case scenario she’s chipping you while you haven’t touched her.
First off, this is a little hard to believe. Second, random hail definitely serves a purpose, especially when it’s not telegraphed with a typhoon. The mere threat of random hail forces players to NOT do a lot of what they probably wanted to do. Want to SJ, fierce, airdash fierce with Mag or Storm, or fly with Sent, or jump and throw a grenade with Cable, or jump and laser with Doom, or jump and demon with BH, or smart bomb with IM, etc. etc.? Do any of that and you’re at risk to eat 1/3 life on a totally random hail. So you’re forced to stay level with Storm and pay attention to her position and be ready to block (or do some fast reaction counter like tiger knee EM Disrupter or Rocket Punch/within-range flying short, etc.). She’s forcing you to play her game instead of letting you play yours. And if you block, like everyone else said, it’s not exactly hard for her to get another meter.
Random hail isn’t really random… unless they accidentally input it… otherwise it’s just them doing the safe chip storm is known for… plus… the occasional misc hail that you expect you to block… either goes unblocked or mauls your assist. Heck… “random” hails are insanely effective at shutting down doom rocks and sent drones… which would be worth it alone…
Storm can runaway… build meter… chip with hail… repeat… and unless you can stop her… she can beat you on this alone… random? Hardly.
Well, not flush…
Ive been hit on the end of it, where Im getting ready to advance after it all. I wouldnt call it random, but in the sense that its not meant to connect or it doesnt do a lot of chip damage (on certain characters) it could be defined as random.
Godlike Storms do it, in which it kinda doesnt matter, since theyre badass. But from a stradegy concept, Id save those meters for assist punish.
Fool me once, shame on me…
In other words, your opponent wont make the same mistakes he made eating hailstorms with his assist. So, its kinda a waste of meter to think that they’ll bring an assist right back out after eating hailstorm. Of course, some players do that (kinda retarded…no…reterded) though, so I guess in all fairness, its all good.
I wasnt really complaining about it, I just noticed it was a constant in Storm gameplay, thats all…
HAHAHAHAH I was not expecting “I have never been hit with a random hailstorm” as a serious answer. You never sj. fierce to build bar with anyone? Well I know you weren’t complaining about it but that is the reason you were looking for, so now you know. =]
And you guys know random HS does not mean “random input of HCB+PP” but the timing of when you do it is random…like jab -> hs, typhoon -> hs, call assist -> hs, 2 hs in a row, etc…
Its all mindgames. It really sucks to have your character or assist caught with one, and when your against an opponent who does not mind burning off a few meters randomly, it may shake up your game a bit, afraid to call assists, etc.
I do that with storm, sometimes it works to catch assists, sometimes it does’ent. Either way, every little bit helps and there is a purpose behind it all.
u admit your assist gets hit by hailstorm thats good enough reason. it will take almost half your assists life and thats a pretty big advantage. thats why some people do it in the beginning of the match
Random hailstorm has a lot of plus’s and its safe. Most people save atleast two meters and use 3rd meter for hail
