But a pure snk tourney? This aint S.E.A nigga. Not even mexico does these that often…You’re better off just doing texas regionals and hosting the standard boring ass games then hosting these as part of the line up.
Or doing it in a different location (San Diego near MexiCali/Tijuana anyone?)…like I tell people…it’s a different environment if it’s not a location where it’s catered to SNK players…and that’s my whole perspective…you see where I’m coming from…the main one is in El Paso… also my tournaments aren’t pure SNK…
Take a look…they are mostly SNK…but not purely SNK…
and that’s how I want it to be…I can’t call it an SNK Major if SNK games aren’t the Major…and I’m not gonna have the other games overshadow my event…if I wanna do that I’ll go hold my events as a side tournament (at someone elses major like I been doing) and be happy with that…
There is a happy medium I believe…and that’s giving other games in addition to what I am doing with the SNK…but the focus is STILL on SNK games by far and away.
About the standard boring games: Well what’s gonna separate my Major apart from the lineup? I can’t have the standard boring games…I gotta have some things that separate my tournament from the standard ones…so I gotta have SF4, BlazBlue, and other stuff…and maybe ONE standard boring game…maybe…once again I will not let my event become another one…
EDIT: Kane9999 (#1 KOFXI player in Juarez, Mexico) is confirmed. I just got off the phone with him it is confirmed he can cross into El Paso no problem. He’s a part of staff now.
He also says Rodo (#2 KOFXI player in Juarez, Mexico) is confirmed as he can also cross into El Paso with permits. He also confirms he will spread news to everyone in Juarez, Mexico about the event and he even believes Esteban (Highly known crazy Angel 2002 player in Juarez) can come to it as well…
He has good contact with Taekua (2nd in the Juarez KOFXI National), Razx, zerge and the Monterrey crew about it as well and will be talking to them to get them to show up to the tournament as well.
Now time to talk to the Japanese!!! I will continue to keep you posted!!!

Wow, you’re really pulling out at all the stops!
I think KoFXII will stay in arcades longer trying to recoup some of the money so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was more like Blazblue and takes double the time it took KoF98UM.
Anyway DG, good luck to you sir.
I’m trying my best man…I really am. I do realize anything thats good takes time…but you also gotta make a good first impression…and that’s what I am trying to do. I’m adding phoenixazure on staff (Cyberfanatix), he also has excellent marketing ideas combining Webs idea of a website (no pun intended ) to promote with doing affiliation etc. and he’s talking about coming up to the major from NYC as well.
He has another idea to make it a surging event…advertise it as the “Replacement for SNK at SBO” since SBO is abandoning SNK games this year due to HOW THEY WORK (Meaning they keep one ace in the hole ala 3s and alternate new games on arcade every year, So Stuart Hayden bring it, I got evidence from actual Japanese SBO players…what do you have? Theory??? )
So we are putting together a way of advertising the major in country specific forums and threads so everyone can see it and we can get the Magos, RFs, maybe Dakous, Xiaohais, Skatos, Khannibals etc around the world to our event.
I mean its like your Seasons Beatings…you may not have your best players in the US in Marvel at EVO, but you sure as hell have them at Seasons Beatings right?
Thats what I want…they may not go to EVO, but they will come to my SNK Major because they know they will have all the competition they can get…
-DG
I wouldnt be surprised anyway…but either way its gonna be a main staple of my tournies…either now or later…
Thanks for the good luck…I’m super busy at work on it even now…
EDIT: What do you all think about the idea of getting a professional DVD of the event made? (Ala Final Round and others like EVO what they are doing)
I gotta say, more power to ya Dark Geese. Its time SNK fighting scene got some more love and you seem the guy to do it. I sincerely hope this thing goes a success.
And I hope even more to see you at Impact Clash or FR.
And put some Waku Waku 7 up at this motha’!:rock:
DVD would be nice, especially if we get some really high level play out of the Mexican players.
Within the next couple months I will have a couple domains opening up that I will be able to use to setup and run a website for the event. Don’t have the slots right now but some old stuff from former clients is expiring soon and I’ll have the free (at least I’m making this free for the event) webspace plus filesharing capabilities. Should have about 15/100GB per month file transfer opening up to share some media if needed as well.
A DVD? I would be all over that shit. Seriously, It’s about time. I’m really looking forward to witnessing international comp go at it in games like RB2 or SamSho. HYPED!
I’m down for some Waku Waku 7…and between the international players I am very curious who else is down in it also! I still by all means intend on being at FRXII!
Thanks for the support…:china:
That all works…and trust me we will get some very high level play from the Mexicans…that you can count on…you will see why El Paso as a choice is a no brainer…
-DG
I’m gonna try my best then to make this happen…I mean I am gonna choose wisely what will go on the DVD and what I will upload for free to my youtube channel as further promotion…that has to be carefully done.
Plus you know me I got plans for spicy Money Matches and Exhibitions etc…team tournies etc that can all happen on FRIDAY…or in conclusion etc…
If we get the CaliMexicans over me and NeoPenny are thinking something spicy in KOFXI like Guero vs. Beto (Kane9999)…FT5…
And Guero/Beto vs. Taekua…
If you want to help cut down on the production costs of the thing I can easily set up a store section on the website for the event that can have the dvd in digital video or just make it in a system where just discs are produced for each actual order. That way you don’t have to order say 1000 dvd’s from a production place and only sell 200 and be stuck with lost money.
I’m in let’s do this! I got a few people I know are good at the making DVD stuff…any suggestions Sazae?
EDIT: Also in addition to all this wait hold up guys, I am planning on presenting my business proposal to SNK/P USA to try to get them on board on this madness (Since technically I am using their name as the name of the event and this is AN SNK/P EVENT, and I mean hey if they wanna “sue” me that means something good is happening, we can all then start talking about making this work which is obviously to their advantage!!!) , thus them getting involved is a no brainer and it should also cut down on production costs if SNKP can supply us with more equipment, games, KOFXII, etc.
You follow me everyone?
-DG
Getting SNKP to jump out would be great, it would be very nice pad to have them involved in anything. Even just to say you are official endorsed by them means something (maybe not a lot but it’s better than nothing).
As for actually creating dvds I can make a pretty professional disc out of any footage you can give me (video editing is a big hobby of mine) and getting them burned and looking pro is simple as anything.
Okay you are my guy then lol!!!
What’s everyone elses take on getting SNKP USA involved?
I’m just throwing this idea out there, but my brother in law actually works at a CD/DVD/BR media dupe firm (they make copies, lol) and their silk screening is very high quality. He himself even made a batch of CDs for his wedding, and the product came out pretty nicely. He gets the hookups for being an employee, so if you guys are down with making physical copies of the SNK major, then I could ask if something can be arranged. Keep in mind that they’re based in Cali, and again, just throwing this out there!
Thank you I will gladly keep that in mind…ashame you cant make it to the tournament…though no?
Sazae whats your take on this? Webs? Shiki? Others?
Ok I’ve read the entire thread and there are some things I agree with and some I don’t agree with.
1st- great job setting this up lukas. El paso should be a great place for your 1st major tournament. With the players you can attract from across the border that should make your tournament the most unique tournament in the usa community. I like your MAIN SNK tournament list of games being played. Those games are the future of snk in the community as a whole imo. KOF12 has a chance to be huge in the fighting game community as a whole imo. I hope its released by the time your tournament comes around sir
2nd-the whole debate over new school snk vs old school snk is old and wack imo. I know people are use to playing on their custom sticks on ps2 or on emu’s on their computers, but some of the mexican players don’t play on consoles like we do in the states. They goto the arcade to play or someone has an mvs system they play on. Mvs are very cheap to buy for an arcade owner.
Also since I started to play online on ggpo or 2df I had a lot of the mexican, but mostly brazilian players tell me that their best players don’t play online or on consoles. They play in the arcade on arcade equipment. My main problem with any old school snk game ports on any system besides the mvs or neogeo cart is its Never arcade perfect! There’s always something wrong with the ports imo.
Either it doesn’t quite play right or its missing blood or missing stages or music or the loading time makes the game unbearable after playing 10 matches. As long as you have the ability to have converters to play on your own sticks it should be fine to play older snk games on the mvs or neogeo cart systems! I’m sure that’s why the mexican players want to play the original kof2k2 also at your tournament lukas.
It doesn’t or shouldn’t divide the snk community imo. I would guess that most of the hardcore snk fans would prefer the games on atomiswave, mvs, or neogeo cart. With all of that said you should run the event the way you think it should be done. I like rbs, but if I had the chance to run it on ps2 or mvs I would choose mvs. I would run it on ps2 if I HAD too, but I’ve notice a lot of difference in both versions. Mainly with the characters I use in rbs. I’m just using rbs as an example because I’m pretty good at the game and I know how shit is suppose to work with the characters I use. On tung fu ru all of his normal attacks have a shorter range imo. This really fucks him up because his weakness is his range. To tweak with that has almost made him unplayable on the ps2 port imo on rbs. I know people don’t care about rbs anyways. I was just using that game to point out some gameplay issues I have with one snk port to ps2. I’m sure there are other examples of this when comparing old school snk games to the ps2 ports.
You don’t want the international players to complain that they didn’t like the version of the game they played at your event. In the same breathe is this tournament for the international players or is it for the usa snk community? You have to figure out the proper balance between old school and new school snk games. New school is the future and that is the only way to get snk games into the main stresam fighting game community.
You can do something that I can’t lukas with snk. You can get more international polayers with the name you have built for yourself in the community in the usa and in latin america. The main thing is to do what YOU feel is the best way to blend the old with the new! Goodluck man! Tournament organizing is a thankless job,but someone has to do it.
Oh yea I almost forgot. The three non snk that will prolly be staples in fighting game community that you should have at your major is as followed:
- Sf4-pretty much going to be the future of capcom fighting scene imo.
- TvC-I think this game has the Moxy to replace mvc2.
- Any tekken!!!- You are in texas and that’s one of the few spots in the usa that rivals the atl in tekken skills imo. Tekken will be a huge draw in texas imo.
Things like smash and gg could be big draws also, but you don’t want too many games drawing away from the SNK games if you want to keep it (snk 1st damnit!).
How does “Border WaRs” sound lukas? You can steal it if you want it sir.
That sounds great actually. I can create the actual dvd with all the fancy menus and such and let them be in charge of actually producing it. If it’ll come out better and in the price range that will make it worth it (I can produce each disc for less than $2-$3) then I say we do it.
Seems like a fair idea for the reasons you mentioned. Maybe they’ll be willing to even throw in some extra prize money for one of the major tournament pots.
Course El Paso is on the other side of the country so I don’t think I’d make it out unless I move out that way between now and then…but I fully support this idea and your work in making it happen.
Geese, where do you get all this money and still have time to do things like this? lol anyway, if Coliseum is there in some form I’d feel a lot better about making the trip down there.
I’d say play the old school games on the old school platform, definitely, if we have the hardware available. Everything Playmore-era being on PS2, Dreamcast or arcade where applicable/possible.
For what it’s worth, I would play GG, Blazblue, SF4, Arcana and SC4. All on console, that is. Also, don’t make the mistake of trying to run a tournament on just one setup/cab if you have a decent crowd of people in the tourney. It takes forever and there’s no opportunity for casuals, even worse would be if the event was one day only.
