The Raging Storm 2009 Planning Thread: PHX: June 19-21st, 2009

Guys Larry is speaking the truth here.

I agree with most if not everything you have said Larry. But like I said this is not all about me…its about my team and me sharing my vision and us trying to make it happen.

This is for not only the US community, but for international players as well…so its for both! I like that name Border Wars…I really do…and esp in the El Paso version of it that might actually be the name of it or it might be “Raising Storm 2009: Border Wars, El Paso, Texas.”

What do you all think about what Larry is saying?

Excellent then we will see if we can unite this to make it happen!

Yes you get my logic now…that would cut off on a lot and they could give out a HUGE bonus pot for THEIR GAMES…makes it soooo much easier for me…my other sponsors have agreed this is an excellent idea as well…so as soon as I submit the business proposal to them I will also submit it to SNKP.

Well, it’s pretty obvious why the Mexicans and Brazilians don’t play on consoles or PC emulators. It has nothing to do with the quality of the versions.
Also, just because they do it doesn’t mean the US should follow.

Well, up until around 2004, I’d agree 100%.
The Japanese PS2 ports of the Atomiswave games (Tenka, NGBC, KOF XI, and Neowave) are very damn good. In fact, I’d say they’re better than the arcade versions because of more characters, more modes, etc. (the only exception would be a little extra loadtime in NGBC…not a big deal).

For other games, it’s hit or miss, depending. The PS2 Garou is pretty alright gameplay wise. I haven’t heard anyone complain about the NeoGeo version of 98 included on the Japanese PS2 98UM disc. The LB PS2 collection is bad. I’ve heard Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 2 fixed the slowdown that was in the ARCADE version of Real Bout 2, but then I’ve heard other people say it was messed up. This is the first time I’ve heard anything about Tung in RBS having less range.

I can’t think of a single game where stuff like blood was removed specifically for the PS2 version. All of the games like SS5 and KOF 2001 that censored stupid stuff like blood, guns, and Mai’s titties were also censored in the American arcade versions. In fact, the Japanese ARCADE version of SamSho Sen has no blood and fatalities but the US PS3 version will have them!

My point is that arcade is not the end all, be all of tournament standards anymore. In 90’s, yes, because consoles weren’t powerful enough yet. Now the console versions have the potential to be better.
If we still only played in the arcades, we wouldn’t be getting a much better version of SF4 with more characters, online play, and the possibility of quick balancing patches. Likewise, I fully expect the console KOFXII to be the “real” version.

Well like I said, you should run original 2002 on MVS because they only people who are playing are the Mexicans and that’s what they’re used to.

The problem with converters is that they will ALWAYS have some degree of lag. Plus there’s the issue of not being able to easily change button config which holds up tournaments.
There is no reason to force players to play Tenka or KOFXI, for example, on Atomiswave with a laggy converter or without their own sticks and button set-up when the PS2 versions are perfectly fine.

Most of the hardcore SNK players who want to play only MVS, Atomiswave, etc. HAVEN’T SHOWN UP at any tournaments. Like I said, they’re mostly cart collectors. Which is fine, but if they aren’t showing up and traveling to tournaments, then why should we care?
The people who HAVE been showing up and paying to enter US SNK tournaments are the newer fans…some of them who have never played the arcade versions, and have their own PS2 set-ups.

How da hell do you play Blazblue on console? Has that game been ported yet?

What I meant to say was I’d play all of those games if they’re out on console (I still don’t play stick).

True you make a good point, and we are taking all this into consideration. Where do I get the money? Well I DID just get my Masters degree so the money is coming bro (Going back for two more certifications), the time? I make it…I want it bad enough lol. Mark my words, Coliseum will be down there in some way shape or form…another reason why? Because I want the top Japanese NGBC players we all see on Soh85’s channel and at niconico…AT MY TOURNAMENT. So I am gonna use my own connections (SBO NGBC players Fujihara and akenin) to try to get that going…hell I’d even settle for KEEROC (SBO NGBC 2005 Champion) coming down though he’s out of the loop in regards to top players are concerned right now in NGBC in Japan. (He lives in the Kanto district, away from where the top players play NGBC tournaments now and days)

Supergun maybe? Dunno…

True…Blazblue may not be though…

Yeah it’s because they still have an arcade scene.

I feel you man. There has to be a heathly medium people can get to for versions played at tournaments. I don’t want to cause drama because the snk community is a sub-community in the fighting game community. Which the fighting game community is a sub-community to the competitive gaming scene as a whole! We don’t need to divide our players on what is the best version to play. I agree that most of the times the home version is the best version of snk games!

Take kofxi for example. I think people would have enjoyed that game more if the console characters were allowed in tournamebt play and everyone just played in arranged mode. Most of the glitches that are banned in kofxi are in arcade mode and if everyone would have just played in arranged mode when the game was released on console we wouldn’t have to ban vanessa infinite in tournament play. All of that stuff is fixed in arranged mode, but NO ONE wanted to play arranged mode kofxi. Kofxi was one of the 1st snk games I thought of as being better as the console version than the arcade version. They fixed all of the bs and they added more characters. This was one instance I was in favor of having the console over arcade version. I will say this to lukas. If you want to make this tournament huge try to get SBO qual spots for kof98um. That means you would need kof98um arcade machinces, but that would be a HUGE draw sir imo! I’m just trying to help a fellow tournament organizer out with some helpful idea’s.

I will try that Larry…see but thing is this…due to how SBO works see with the rotating schedule…maybe it won’t be spots for SBO…but spots for TGB (The Great Battle) which is still no joke :looney:

TEKKEN UPDATE: Ryan Hart where you at??? This should hopefully solidify YOUR PRESENCE. In acknowledging what Larry and Webster have said…I have given my boy JRA64 (Top 3/4 in T5.0 EVO 2k4/5) a call to ask him to join my staff in interest of running Tekken…

So yes he is committed, he is on staff for this event, He is the Tekken Expert lol, so Ryan Hart where you at he wants a shot at you in Tekken!!! LOL.

Should I advertise this at TZ.com?

-DG

Calling out players usually don’t work anymore to get people to come to your event sir. Send a message via pm would prolly be better. I feel you on the sbo tip, but if you sponsers want maximum coverage than you should convince them to get it done! You can do it lukas.

I’m just saying that to hype stuff up, :wgrin: trust me I will connect with the right channels to push it further…and post it on TZ.com/other places

And I will push that for that and try to convince them to get it done…with the coverage…

I’m not sure if I can make it to this, but if there is a DVD I will DEFINITELY be buying it

Good to know people…I am talking to Ghostpilot right now and he seems interested to come out for RB2…

Will keep you all posted I’m hard at work!!!

EDIT: 1up (Best KOF2002 player in Europe) and Ryan Hart (Best 98UM player in Europe) are confirmed to come to this event if I confirm Mexican and Japanese players…

Also I think Tekken MAY need to be the 8th Major (DR) possible…because its gaining steam and Ryan Hart knows about what JRA64 said…

-DG

Well well this thing is getting really interesting, good luck Geese so you can pull this off.

Thank you…I got a proposition with JRA64 vs. RYAN HART in T5DR and T5.0…on the DVD FT5…Exhibition…Ryan Hart accepts it and I know my boy ain’t backing down…

Now I’m gonna take a nap I been working hard all day (Cant you all tell) so I need to rest up, recuperate so I can get back at it when I wake up.

I was talking to a girl on the phone and she was like “STOP WORKING!!!” I was like 'I can’t" lol.

I skimmed the first page but this should really be just a SNK Fighting Game tournament. its not an “SNK Gamers Gathering”. Im sure this was already addressed but like I said, all i read was the first page.

DG,

If you want to pay the cost of shipping I’ll have two Egret II with one player CP’s by then …:wgrin:

Sorry ShinBlanka I tried my damnest to get them here by FXII, but I’m pretty sure it isn’t going to happen… I’m actually picking them up in ATL… looks like I’ll be making two trips to ATL in the month of march

Good luck with this man, you know If I could I would help in anyway.

Hmmm yeah it is a fighting game tournament…a competitive tournament to say the least…an international competitive tournament…

What is an Egret II? Sorry if I don’t know these things…

Thanks I’ll take it…nap over…back to work…lol.

Seems to me like you’re gonna be all talk…Not to mention I hear you set yourself up guaranteed 1/2nd place in tourneys ran by YOU. Im sorry, I just dont support this major. Doing it in Socal aint gonna help either, They dont really play games in northern mexico. Not to my knowledge, And I’ve been there a few times to see it for myself, They actually play shit like MSH and a few of the alphas lol.

Anything good you wanna contribute to this thread? KOF2002 is very big in Juarez, Mexico…

I ain’t entertaining anything else you wanna mention “I hear” is nothing but hearsay…

I aint running the majority of these tournaments first and foremost… With the staff I have I aint even running most of these…I would like actually to NOT win tournaments for a chance (What I’m trying to make happen here!)…winning all the time is boring… So all this hearsay makes no sense…it’s coming from poor losers that can’t beat me…

Fact.

Come strong with evidence or don’t come at all…You tell these haters where were THEY to run my tournaments? The people saying this are all talk…because they ain’t good enough to beat me…if they were it would show WOULDN’T IT? People hate when someone wins all the time…I realize that…and I am setting up my tournament to be the ultimate challenge…

That’ll shut em up realllll fast.

**Edit- **Matter of fact I’d like really to not run ANYTHING…I’d like to be the one making sure everything is running smoothly…Penny and others are offering to run SNK tournaments and I’m LETTING THEM RUN IT. (Penny even wants to run KOFXI)

I find it real funny these people wanna put this shit on me but they don’t wanna help me run it…kinda strange ain’t it? As you have seen from me being away for 6 months…If I am gone or I don’t do anything for the most part…NOTHING GETS DONE.
