The Queen of MAHVELL 3!: The Morrigan GD Thread

I’m honestly not certain, but every normal she posses other than S or j.S are special cancelable, so all of the others can be made “safe”.

I tried to play Alioune’s Team without SoulFist! and needless to say it didn’t work very well so I decide to practice the zoning and after only 45 minutes my wrists hurt.
I respect you guys and your quest for carpal tunnel syndrome.

I’ve just always naturally had good hands so I can do twitchy stuff all day and not get tired. Viper’s theory stuff is basically worse than Morrigan and then Morrigan is my next character after and doing hcf motions and plink air dashes all day.

To any morrigans who dont do this, mash cr.L more in defensive situations. Its so stupid. Cr.L mash + call disruptor assist is amazing. She becomes unhitable.

Lol, I did that to one of my friends playing Magneto. He was in XF (I think) and was shooting disruptors out. Once he finally understood that I wasn’t going to get up and get chipped by the disruptors, he tried to tridash in and I just caught him with c. L. It’s a fantastically annoying tool that works very well.

cr.L mashing makes me cringe. My advice to 90% of morrigans would be to use cr.L LESS. It’s good if you’re trying to duck under moves or break armor, but s.L is just as fast and doesn’t scale your damage as much and actually hits low.

scrubby defensive tactic but it has its place vs scrubby/unclean offense

it’ll help vs magnetos that dont mag blast well

Not just scrubby/unclean offense, her crouch stance is so low she’ll duck under all sorts of things that you wouldn’t expect. Beams, s. Ls, Vergil’s round trip (IIRC, can’t remember if it’s just Ammy who ducks under it…and then gets hit when he teleports b/c he crouches a bit in the animation…) all sorts of stuff. Even if the Magneto can use Mag Blast well, if they’re already in that doesn’t help against c. L or Shadowblade. Shadowblade, now that’s a real mans (womens?) defensive tool. 3f, full combo…More people gotta use THAT more:P

C.L is fucking amazing for everything but damage. It really should be abused.

Yeah it scales things to shit if it hits. TAC infinites can fix that problem though.

Basically I was playing my friends Spencer/Plasma beam/Vergil team the other day and all of his spencer approaches are made obsolete by me mashing cr.L + disruptor assist. She ducks everything then the disruptor assist comes out for a quick pushback or to give you some blockstun to send out a soul fist to do a safe astral activation. Disruptor assist is also amazing at beating other assists because its so fast.

Also yeah Shadow Blade needs to be used way more defensively. You can actually play street fighter when you combine it with the right Soul fist patterns. Throw fireballs from the right range, wait till they jump then anti air with shadow blade. Obviously you dont get any combo off of shadow blade H when used as an anti air to super jumps but its still a great anti air. The best thing about it is it often makes you switch side at the last second of hitting which means its a great way to get out of the corner. Call missiles before you you do it and that also means a completely safe missiles call as you will be on the opposite side of the screen.

As I said before though the dreaded forward dash can come out if you miss the shadow blade input. Fuck marvel 3 and its crap input recognition.

I think Morrigan/Disruptor/Missiles is possibly the best point team configuration for her next to Morrigan/Doom/Strider. Morrigan with disruptor is really really good. You can almost use 7 frame disruptor assist as a get off me especially when you combine it with mash cr.L to avoid 80% of shit in the game. When you combine disruptor (one of the best answers to ground movement) with missiles (one of the best answers to air movement) you get a team thats theoretically untouchable. Because disruptor is so fast also and morrigan is so great at filling in gaps between assist calls you can almost always have one of the two assists out there. Disruptor assist to counter call other assists and missiles to dominate the neutral game.

Morrigan is designed to have the toolset to make up for her damage scaling any ways. It’s been tournament proven that she is probably top 3 in hardest characters to land a clean hit on in the game. If you need to use her c.L to save you from dying, then so be it. If you’re playing Morrigan first, do death DHC or TAC infinite. If you have her second learn an XF2 kill combo that will build you a ton of meter etc.

Her s.L is nice for mix ups, but it does not have anywhere near the strength in the neutral of her c.L. It makes her hurtbox really small and is probably the normal that has landed me the most happy bdays with her.

trust me i know

I’m not saying cr.L is bad. It should be abused, just at the proper times. Mashing on it an calling a beam assist at point blank range sounds like a good way to get both of your characters hit when people start throwing out invincible moves or more disjointed ones. I’m saying use it because the matchup or the situation calls for it(punishing ducked beam+teleport, whiffed s.L, round trip, breaking armor), not just to mash on it all the time.

I actually use shadow blade a lot as a movement tool. It lets you quickly reach superjump height while still being able to call assists. It also cleanly anti airs vajra and some other stuff. There are a lot of good different uses for this move.

I think having a strong horizontal assists in addition to missiles is very strong and well rounded. I’m using missiles and arthur daggers, and those daggers help so much when dealing with certain characters like vergil. Also, “theoretically untouchable” is going way overboard in a game where vergil can spend one bar and dash right through all projectiles/beams.

shadow blade is a nifty tool that she doesn’t need to use often because her other tools are so strong. definitely an option but when would you really need it, basically. i.e. chris G would just air throw.

Vergil is an exception lol. Fuck that character. He actually wouldnt even be that hard to fight against with morrigan if he didnt have swords though. But he does :frowning:

Maybe this is an instance where disruptor is too fast, but stuff like: jump soul fist, fly, air dash up and call daggers, air dash down S catches a lot of vergils with a sneaky crossup or just catches them hitting buttons/dashing around.

Vergil is a character you shouldn’t be “fighting” just like Phoenix. He’s like a different take on Captain Commando or Psylocke where the idea is to bring him into the match early so you don’t have to deal with his shit anymore. Unlike Commando you’re not immediately dealing with his invincible assist dicking you out of your pressure game over and over. Instead you have to bring him in before he gets a chance to touch the ground with XF3 (or 2, but at least the time is shorter).

If you do have to fight swords Vergil it’s similar to Phoenix where they idea is just to guess block a lot and force XF activate to burn out the XF time as much as you can. If your character has disjointed moves or projectiles that can hit the dead spot on his head during swords, use those if you have no other choice to put him in block stun and deactivate the hit box for the swords periodically. Other than that, should have incoming mixed up or snapped him in.

They definitely made the durability of the swords way too high. The damage you can do with it would be fine if it didn’t neutrally destroy almost everything that isn’t bionic arm or mach speed.

The only way Fanatiq won vs. CJ last night was by doing what I said. His team is obviously more fair than CJ’s but he won it by making good reads vs. CJ’s assist calls and bringing Vergil in. He made it HIS GOAL to bring Vergil in over even killing the first character. That is your goal when they have Vergil last. When you play a team that doesn’t have Vergil on it at high level vs. a team that does, you’re not thinking about “omg Vergil is going to be so cheap when he comes in” you’re thinking “I’m bringing him in”. He would even burn XF1 to kill Magneto, then snap as the last move of the combo to kill Magneto and bring Vergil in right there. Which better teams wouldn’t have to do, but he was that confident in his corner mix up and pressure game to do it.

The fact that he doesn’t have some super annoying assist or 2 lives is I think why people forget to snap him, but when he falls after you kill 2 people you are reminded that you should have snapped him. Hopefully more people pick up one what Fanatiq did in that set so it becomes regular and not just something somebody here and there does.

Nice stuff! I like the mix ups, though just as an FYI, in place of the combos using 6B instead of 6C as your Dante summon lets you both activate Astral and get a soul drain out without starting your air HSD.

interesting.

i’m not using dante anymore though. he’s too hard to use for me.

Does anyone know if Morrigan can walk/dash through an opponent’s hurtbox with Senpuu Bu assist in the P1 side corner?

For reference:

As mentioned in the annotations Hawkeye was strangely able to jump through Strange in the middle of the screen, so it may be that the glitch is not limited to the P1 side.
