The Queen of MAHVELL 3!: The Morrigan GD Thread

here is some morri jam tech i was working on today
whatdya think

Do Shadowblade H xx Fly Soul Fist L ADF HS land Shadowblade M xx Fly Soul Fist L ADF HS land etc.

I sometimes have a hard time going into launch off of shell kick just because variable hits on shell kick + the landing lag. what is the “etc” part usually?

I notated the combo wrong, but it seems like you’re getting it lol. The etc. part is launch H Shadowblade M xx Finishing Shower/Fly S, or launch MMH Shadowblade M Finishing Shower. About you getting variable hits off of S, you have to control when you do the second Shadowblade, usually I want them around Morrigan’s head/shoulders. If you feel the launch is inconsistent, you could probably just Shadowblade once more instead of launching and do Finishing Shower or Shadowblade xx Fly Shadowblade.

I noticed that, I’ve been super giddy. I’ve actually continued to use the team in Ultimate until recently. I actually dropped Morrigan for now, and am running Firebrand/Dormammu/Shuma-Gorath instead.

That fuzzy was godlike, but she does terrible damage off of jam session lol.

Eh, I don’t care for damage, just meter. Mixups into combos do get me more meter than pure fireball zoning so I’m really liking jam.

thanks oerba i’ll look into it

Why would you do that to yourself man?!

I had to say something though, I about fell out of my chair laughing when Champ picked it, and the stream chat started going in on how bad it looked. I kind of miss playing that team ot be honest, I never really put a lot of work into Dorm, but I’ll be damned if that wasn’t a really fun point Jean team. Now she gets chipped out so much easier, and has no built in combo breaks so I can’t even bring myself to try starting her even in casuals.

Im running a relatively aggressive Morrigan. Lots of fireball > plink dash S. Once you get AV up, its a matter of slowly pushing them into the corner so that Jam Session can actually lock them the fuck down (and it does a FANTASTIC job when you have them corned). As of now im running Dante on anchor, so yeah…typical anchor Dante stuff.

My main team right now is Zero / Morrigan / Dante, and ive been having a LOT of success with it so far. That being said, im kinda trying to find a character that I feel comfortable using so that I can run Morrigan on point. As of now im thinking about Morrigan / Dante / Strider, but ive got some other teams im working on too. Morrigan / Dante is a VERY strong shell, but it can have a hard time against things like Hawkeye / Missiles and other shells that can outzone fullscreen solo Morrigan. The shell is extremely oppressive when the opponent is in the corner, but if youre fullscreen, youre basically running solo Morrigan for the most part.

I still think Vajra is Morrigan’s best assist overall, but thats just me. It only really has 1 downfall. Im trying to find the optimal shell of Morrigan / Strider, with Strider NOT being on anchor (at least until my Strider gets better…to be honest, my Strider is pretty ass right now…My Morrigan is by far my best character…easily)

Any opinions?

Once people up their movement game with Morrigan the fact that jam session doesn’t track won’t be as much of an issue. You just have to get your movement game up and keep them in position during fireballs and AV where they are forced to respect the jam session and wall of fireballs. Missiles and Strider let you play lazy because you can just sit in one spot and and still have something touching them even if you don’t move or care about where you place the fireballs. There’s no reason to call jam session from full screen (least that I’ve learned) unless you’re fighting against a teleport character or other tracking AA assist. Dieminion puts in plenty of work with Morri without assist just because AV has natural anti pushblock properties which is like having an assist without an assist.

Plus now that mid screen TAC infinite has been found for Morri the shell is more dangerous both ways. You can either land a hit with Morri and double TAC from Dante back into Morri or if Dante is in front of Morri, just TAC into her. So you get a double benefit of meter assist for easier access to damage and DT for Dante while having a way to get bars back up quickly for Morrigan after landing a hit with Dante.

The optimal morrigan/strider team is obviously morrigan/doom/strider. Second place goes to morrigan/vergil/strider. My strider was very very bad for a while(it still isn’t really that good). Just stick with him and keep learning stuff.

ugh, I really hate Doom…which is the main reason im not using Missiles. I fucking hate Doom.

I hate Vergil even more then I hate Doom.

i gotta disagree a little bit. morri jam is great but its zoning capabilities are not on the level of doom and strider. homing assists don’t just let you play lazy, they let you play runaway more easily, and that invalidates more of the cast.

@Devil

what is the notation / video for Morrigans midscreen TAC infinite? is it off of any direction?

Most characters have options to snipe or move around strider assist pretty easily so he doesn’t really do a ton IMO for Morri against players and characters that are good at sniping or outmaneuvering him. Missiles is definitely her best assist, but she’s very useable with the other assists especially if your point character also benefits the most from jam session or that other specific assist. Viper doesn’t really get a whole lot of neutral control at the start of the round with vajra specifically as opposed to jam.

Vid is here.

The notations should be pretty similar to the corner stuff minus a button or 2. I’ll have to look back at what Darksim said again.

thank you sir.

Played alioune last night. He showed me the power of j.M. Air dash down forward j.M is way better than j.H for crossing up. J.m seems like the better air dash option aside from the fact it doesnt OS air throws like j.H.

Not to mention, j.M reaches farther.

It also has half the active frames, more recovery (even if j.H hits on the first active frame) less hit stun, and a larger hurtbox, and does 15k less damage. I’ll try giving it a shot again, but I had originally settled on H pretty much because of all the above. j.M is 3 frames faster on the start up though.

do any of her other air normals have significant landing lag like shell kick?

in general, i use jM vs people on the ground, and jH when people are jumpy, since jH gives a possible air to air combo.
