The Queen of MAHVELL 3!: The Morrigan GD Thread

it may not be very important to you guys but I found a way to get a guaranteed kill on phoenix, even if shes at 5 bars.

I dont think ill ever lose to a phoenix player ever again…

Morrigan I think counters phoenix badly.

Keep practicing, all in all it just a motion, do it enough and you will get the hang of it.

@AshCrimson: Try practicing Soul Fist walls first. That way you get the hang of cancelling it (and build it into muscle memory) into flight. Also what’s the rest of the combo? If it’s just j. H j. S after it would be easier to just air dash forward and then do j. H j. S.

@KayDeeEye: What is it you discovered?:open_mouth: XF cancel into Lv. 3? Use of the double TAC glitch? Command grab? I wanna hear it>.<

To ash crimson, if you’re doing L M H ->H, j.M, j.M, h.H, soulfist M, you should be airdashing forward. If you want to airdash down, put in a crouching heavy before the forward heavy, this makes it so their character is slightly lower, and on your air dash down, you won’t fly under them/can catch them much easier.

Is there anything interesting/unique Morrigan can do with Sent Drones? Comboing after her hypers or something?

the best part is that the normal way to do it is super hard, but theres like 5 ways to make it easier.

Essentially, all it is in its simplest form, is the following combo.

st. L - st. M - F+M - Soul Drain - Shadow Servant

You only need a 350k combo to kill phoenix and since you tap her fo the meter right before the super, its guarantee to kill her without 5 bars no matter what. so it can work with something this short.

This can be started from anything and be done any where on stage, the only stipulation is that you have to start the combo as close to the phoenix as possible, and she has to be grounded when you hit her. if you start it at max range of your normals, either the soul drain or super will drop. The last two moves are very tight on the timing as well. If you do dark quills and cancel into soul drain too soon, quills will cancel before it hits. and if you dont cancel the drain into the super as soon as it comes out, she will block it, if you wait for the fire ball to hit her, it will get blocked.

can be done from forward airdash or down air dash, double L, H or S

if you have the mirror super up, you can do the same combo, but instead of shadow servant, fly cancel the soul drain, into Immediate S into either H dp or M dp fly, M dp again, as soon as you land, and that will kill phoenix. Ive been trying to do this before now, but catching her on the ground in the short amount of time that the mirror is up can be a waste of bar at times.

From midscreen, this combo will kill phoenix outright. In the corner, you will need a simple DHC to kill her because the servant wont hit enough times.

The best part about this is that it DOESNT REQUIRE X FACTOR.

Which means you can USE X factor to make it EASIER.

There are a ton of ways to do this.

X factor guard cancel a phoenix slide (down M i think?) into the combo for a kill.
X factor after dark quills to make the soul drain come out faster and make the link into shadow servant a bit easier.
X factor after the soul drain to make the servant link balls easy.
If you drop the link into the super, youve already tapped her for the meter, x factor and if shes in the corner, walk up command grab, if shes midscreen dash up to her and run a quick high-low mix up for the game.
X factor after the super in the corner and do j MHS to finish her off.
Hell, if you want to, you can even hit with the soul drain, x factor, walk forward a tiny bit and launch her into an air combo and it will combo.
^^^ I tested all of the above.

you might even be able to do soul drain, x factor Dp H.
^^^ Did not test this, thought of it while I was typing this.
When practicing this, its best to do it off of jumping S so that you will learn to nail it the hardest way, and than you can adapt it to make it easier based on the situation.

It’s 375k to kill her right out actually. But yeah, that combo works as long as she hasn’t taken enough chip or other stray hits to die before the soul drain.

I remember seeing a video a while back of morrigan getting a full combo off of her flight cancelled shadow blade crossover counter? Anyone got the video?

I was looking for it just the other day lol

I see a lot of discussion about button layouts here. Is there a layout that people find consistently easy for morrigan? I’m using

L M H
S A1 A2

But I have so much trouble with Morrigan’s execution, I’m thinking changing it around might help things.

I use that too. I don’t have any problems though :open_mouth:

i’m very surprised no one has picked up morrigan/modok yet. actually, there’s a whole slew of teams that i’m surprised no one has latched on to yet.

Not very surprising counting the number of combinations exist…

and the fact that people flock to the good characters and premade teams that the good people came up with.

I only know of… 2 modok players. Royal Flush and a guy in my region. and like… 3 thor players. Royal Flush, and another guy in my region and Dave Sirlin. but every other team you see has doom or wesker or zero on it. so yea. chances of seeing a chun li, phoenix wright team any time in the forseeable future is fairly low.

ps. apparently now theres like at least 3 guys running morrigan/doom at every tournament now…

freaking fads, man…

Have you noticed the amounts of Yun in Japan during the AE region?

People tend to bandwagon, since not anyone is capable of finding new techniques ( and I include myself as one of those who can’t). For most games, You’ve got the Japaneses who are pretty good at exploring every possibility with characters (Remember who started the XF kill the first character with Wolvie?Tron/Thor/SheHulk team? should I even mention Joe/Frank/RR team?).
In most game that enough, player who don’t really want to jump on the wagon got more then enough reference about almost any character in the game. But when the game is less explored, When you need to chose between under explored character and well known one, the choice is clear, if the thrill of exploring itself is not what drives you.

Also note that most of the exploring is advancing as community efforts in Japan, In America (the true home for this game) each player save his own technique for the next big tournament. As result, you don’t have real good database of knowledge on each character in the cast.

Any tips that anyone could give a horrible Morrigan player?

Im not exactly new with her Ive used her since Tatsunoko but my combo’s don’t do much damage and I can’t really soul fist spam reliably…

I pretty much only win with her because people seem to have a hard time blocking her mixups/crossups.

Training room. It didn’t take me too long to start using soul fist spam, but it took me a while to do it consistently. Same goes for her combos, it took me forever to do soul fist cancels in combos. You just gotta practice.

Im in the process of trying to increase the number of soul fists in my bnb combo from 0 to 2 and I only have 4 more days until seasons beatings.

So doing these other things like eating and sleeping

Hi fersnachi. Thing’s you can do to help morrigan’s damage output are learning to include soulfists/shadowblades in combos, and not scaling your combos too hard at the start. Moves like stand H, which hit 4 times will scale all of your combos dramatically. Crouch light does something similar, but since it’s fast and spammable, it can be useful at times.
