what about when you have just a little bit of space between you and the opponent (enough that your attacks will miss)? Do you dash at them or what? i tried dashing to close up some space and i got thrown out of her dash everytime.
Super jump, and air dash down with H or S.
Morrigans Air S is one of the only air normal moves in the game that ive seen that looks like it doesnt instantly cancel the moment you touch the ground, have you tried fly to air dash down to unfly and continuing the combo from there?
Capcom did a pretty good job carrying Morrigan over to Marvel Vs Capcom 3.
I run her on a team with Dante and Trish.
It failed at the part that the guide was wrong, and neither f+H or Shadow Blades actually cause knockdowns. OR there’s 3 kinds of knockdowns in this game instead of 2. Shadow Blade and Blade kick both cause air techs. Zero’s raikousens is a soft knockdown, and does not cause an air tech.
I was messing around in training mode and I think I was able to do multiple air dashes in one jump. After an air soul fist flight cancel soul fist, I didn’t unfly, and just dashed forward, and sometimes I’d be able to get an immediate down dash after that forward dash. I can’t say I can identify why I’d be able to do this, because I wasn’t able to do it consistently (it happened like 3 or 4 times in a row, and then I started trying to do it and I couldn’t really, haha). Perhaps after the first forward air dash, flight mode timed out, and I was able to get a down air dash after that?
Also I don’t remember exactly (and I don’t actually own a copy of the game, I was just at a friend’s place yesterday so I can’t really test) but I think I was also able to do jump up air dash, soul fist flight cancel, and then get another air dash in.
So can Morrigan potentially air dash many times without landing? Maybe flight cancels allow you to do additional dashes in the air? This would be pretty cool; you could do forward dash flight cancel down dash for some interesting mobility options, or flight cancel approaching dashes into back dash if the approach wasn’t safe.
But yeah, I’m not sure what happened, and I thought I’d just put that out there if anyone wants to try to experiment some more…?
All flight mode characters have unlimited air dashes during flight. Also, never use Morrigan’s back dash, ever. It leaves you unable to do anything, including block, for 35 frames.
Oh really? That’s good to know, thanks. With Morrigan’s interesting dashes, I feel like this allows for some interesting movement options.
How can Morrigan create distance between her and the opponent without back dash?
Jump and air dash away. I believe only her back dash from the ground has that 35-frame recovery.
As far as I can tell, there’s no difference between her forward/back ground or air dashes other than initial trajectory. Anyway, my choice has always been super jump and do a full screen forward dash over them. If you hold forward or back on a straight dash, they go wall to wall. The up air dash will get you over a lot of dumb shit too. Also, I apparently misremembered the number, and it’s only 25 frames, but still, her back dash doesn’t allow you block until you can attack. Her forward dash doesn’t allow attacks for 15 frames, but does allow blocking. Could be a bug for all I know, but a backdash is pretty much death, so try to avoid them.
you can cancel all of morrigans air dashes, including back dash into other air dashes in flight mode at any time.
There seems to be a glitch where if Morrigan’s back throw is broken, the characters switch sides anyway. Throws don’t really get broken much in this game, but it’s interesting to note nonetheless. If you do this from the left side, you’ll end up on the right side, and you can follow up immediately with Hidden Missiles assist and M Vector Drain for a combo (the Hidden Missiles OTG only works on the right).
Man, too many matches I’ve lost because I BARELY tapped the back button to block during super freeze and the game registered the input as a back dash instead of blocking.
That’s one thing Morrigan really needs fixed in the next version.
So yeah, I guess you may or may not remember me. Well I think Trish is an overall superior character, I’m sticking with Morrigan right now for quite a few reasons.
She’s more fun, I can’t get the ‘feel’ of Trish down (she just seems really awkward with her normals), and there’s no reason to put that much time in learning a new character right now when the MvC3 tournament scene is dying quickly and a re-vision is looming in the next 6 months or so. Plus she fights Sentinel and Phoenix a hell of a lot better than Trish IMO, as long as she has meter.
So what are your lists of things she needs to be competitive in the new revision?
–Be able to block during backdash
–Raise normals’ damage by 15% and reduce damage scaling on normals (this is the biggie)
–Finishing Shower needs less start-up
–Astral Vision less start-up and less recovery
–Darkness Illusion should travel the screen faster
–More pushback on Shadow Servant on block
–Soulfist all versions = 90k damage
–Shadow Blade 15% damage increase and a few frames of invincibility
–Be able to follow up front throw with Shadow Servant
–Less recovery on crouching H (even on Level 3 X-Factor it’s still punishable if you whiff during a ground string)
I think she needs bigger boobs in the next game
8 less frames of pre-flash on Finishing Shower(Should let it combo after Soul FIst, and would make a FS THC fast enough to allow Hail to OTG after Vector Drain)
5 less pre-flash frames on Shadow Servant(should allow it to OTG after a forward throw)
Astral Vision changed to 10+0 Start up and 3 recovery to match Sougenmu
Vampire Savior Walk speed/MvC1&2 ground Dash, current “flight” dash becomes ATK+S
Larger cancel window on M Shadow Blade for both flight and Hyper
Less pop up on opponent during any Shadow Blade
Flight changed from 15 start-up 1 recovery to 14/0 to match Iron Man
Blade Kick (F+H) Hard Knockdown so a follow up hit is always guaranteed after the JC
All Vector Drain Recovery 10 frames, down from 20/22/24, to always allow Shadow Servant follow up
Soul Fist up to 100k
All Shadow Blade strengths given 8 frames of unvulnerbility
Shadow Blade assist changed to Shadow Blade L, retains invincibility
And of course Cosmetic changes to Shadow Servant and Darkness Illusion to include Lilith’s model.
Soul Eraser replacing grounded Finishing Shower as another mostly cosmetic change.
No other changes. The ability to guarantee follow ups to several questionable situations, combo into Astral Vision, make use of OTG combo extenders, increased damage on her zoning game, and Soul Fists becoming the pre-hyper move of choice in air combos, should essentially solve her damage problems, without increasing her minimum scaling, and thereby skirting any potential 1 meter(or less) ToD issues outside of X-factor. Basically, a crap load of mostly minor changes.
I don’t think Morrigan play is close to being maxed out, so I can’t really say much about changes besides obvious things like having more situations where she can follow up her throws, and also, she should at least be able to block and attack 15 frames after ground backdashing, to match her foward dash.
I think Shadow Blade has poor invincibility simply because she can fly cancel it. If you were to combined that with full invincibility up through at least the first active frame of Shadow Blade, it would be ridiculously strong, imo. I’d probably go as far to say too strong.
So, I just realized the entire reason I’m dropping my flight combos when I do is that this game has no negative edge. 5 months in before I realize something I should have noticed on day 1, I feel retarded as all hell.
Well, before anyone else gets the idea, Astral Vision does not allow for uncounterable TACs like Sougenmu.
Shadow Blade has no invincibility at current, just a decent hitbox and 3 frames of start up. Yes, flight canceling or canceling into Finishing Shower make them all safe on point, but part of the reason the game is so hyper defensive was the removal of so many invincible AA assists. That’s a decision Capcom should back peddle, and making Morri’s Shadow Blade assist the L version instead of the H version, and making it invincible would go a long way towards helping the meta, and getting Morrigan onto more teams. Invincibility on point would help deal with Shadow Blade losing to Wolverine and Trish’s dive kicks, and Taskmaster jump back arrows, etc.
Goodness, I didn’t realize Shadow Blade was that fast. That gives me some new ideas.
Where are you getting frame data, btw? I can’t find it online anywhere.
The Brady guide. Which is why you don’t see it online anywhere yet. Good players wrote the majority of it, and the community wants to encourage that to happen again. But yeah, Shadow Blade is Morri’s fastest attack, and one of the fastest in the game. She’s also one of the only characters with s.L, c.L, and j.L at 4 frames. j.S is 5, vs j.H at 10.
