So I finally started playing around with aerial exchanges after air finishing shower in the corner, and it’s awesome tech. Given how underused Morri is at this point too, people are going to fall for it for a long, long time. Easily one of the best things I’ve read on here yet. All 3 exchange directions work off it too, which is a huge plus in case people do start catching on.
She requires meter to do a lot of damage or have access to some of her best tools. And while the meter assist is generally useful (and the only assist of hers that I feel is particularly good), there’s always the question of whether it’s worth using over other options for your particular team.
On the plus side, she’s very versatile and I’m hard-pressed to think of any match-up for her that’s actually disadvantageous. She’s amazing when she has meter to burn and/or X-Factor ready to go, so I think she fits best as an anchor more than anything else. XF3 Astral Vision is silly.
^^ Dormammu is a bad match for morrigan. real talk. he out zones her pretty easily and he can completely kill her offense by laying flame carpets. it hurts morrigan even moreso than other characters because she relies on jump ins for offensive pressure.
Yeah, Dormammu is really annoying to deal with thanks to purification and those damn flame carpets. You really want to have Astral Vision activated and a good assist to like Plasma Beam to keep him honest and get in on him. You have to really watch your assist calls on him though thanks to that damn Chaotic Flame and the full screen explosion. I really hate fighting him more than anyone else when I use Morrigan, so most of the time I just bring in Dante to deal with that bastard if I can. =/
Snap his ass in early so you dont have to fight Morrigan on Dorm…assuming you use her on anchor.
I don’t play Morrigan on anchor though, I play her on point on my main team. Only time I put her third is if I know my opponent will start out with Dorm on point.
Ranked mode on live gave me such a wrong opinion of the Dorm match up for quite a while. Every last person I fought in ranked just tried to burn meter with him, and j.S stuffs all of his hypers if you’re mid screen or closer. Then I played against one of my offline sparring partners - and god is Flame Carpet possibly the most irritating thing in existence. Dorm and Ammy are the only match ups I feel Morri’s at a disadvantage in 1v1.

There are only a few character matchups that I feel like Morrigan isnt at the very least even with. I honestly believe she has a good matchup vs most of the cast, even vs a few, and disadvantage vs a very select few.
The only characters I feel like that give Morrigan trouble are:
Dorm (first and foremost)
Amaterasu
Taskmaster (run away arrows + his air normals give Morrigan trouble. Play a good taskmaster, im sure youll agree very shortly after. I play with one of the best task players in Florida on a daily basis.)
Magneto (CAN give her problems…it depends on if the other player actually knows Morrigan. If he doesnt, i feel like its an even match at worst. )
Trish (she can zone far better than morrigan and can keep morrigan out indefinitely if she wants. its a really annoying match if they just play super keep away. again, if the trish player doesnt know how morrigan works, it gives the morrigan player a slightly better chance, but its still not a fun matchup. better hope you have a good assist helping you out. )

I’ve been finding recently, that Morrigan’s J.H combined with the airdash upwards (which is a good cross up, as mentioned in this thread) has been working well for me.
She suffers greatly from damage scaling, damage from her normals are already not that great (or good) and some of her normals are multi hitting. I really like using the standing H (and also crouching L), but it scales damage so I am trying to iron it out of my game and use crouching H instead. Same can be said about shell kick as a combo starter.
How would one use her “ground” dash, if at all? I try to use it after an air combo knockdown to stay on them/cross them up, but they always roll the other way. I think this “gound” dash should stay in the Vampire series.
What do you think are her best normals? I like cr. L, S.H, J.H and J.S. She also has a pretty nice launcher too.
While Astral Vision is on, soul fist spamming is much more effective and annoying for the opponent. Thank goodness Capcom have her Astral Vision.
Adding to the bad matchups, I agree that Dorm is annoying to deal with. But I also have a hard time catching a runaway Deadpool.

I’m very close to agreeing with the Taskmaster sentiment already. It’s bloody hopeless if he has any assist alive, but if it’s down to 1v1 all you need is one touch unless you have no meter, and that goes for both characters. So it always feels like it comes down to a 50/50 on who gets the other first. He’s one of my snap in and kill first targets though.
if your pressuring somebody with block strings standing heavy is great because it gives you frame advantage. and then once they realise that they cant hit you after it, theyre going to sit there and keep blocking which means you can dash into them some more and and over head them.
if you have them in the corner, most peope block the first couple of attacks over head and then hit down to block the lows. but with morrigan you can ground dash at them, hit them with MMH fly cancel it, and then do LLMMHS, thats 9 hits that come out really fast and they all have to be blocked high. and right after the S, standing L hits low. its actually fairly easy to use her unique abilitys to really mind rape people and open them up to evil combos.
Speaking of blockstrings and standing heavy, flight canceling the move after the first hit is blocked gives you a great opportunity for a surprise overhead with her Shell Kick.
