The Queen of MAHVELL 3!: The Morrigan GD Thread

she seems to have a much better mixup game than i first thought. i usually do something like (cr.L, cr.M, st.H, cr.H, f+H) to start my ground pressure and mix in fly cancel S after anyone of the blocked heavy attacks.

Speaking of standing Heavy, what exactly is the advantage on it on block and hit? Only thing I know about the move is that the first couple of hits will go through pushblock.

Dante and Ammy are great teammates for her. So many ways to shit on sent and other characters vulnerable to rushdown when you have them on your team.

Practice fly canceling her light and medium attacks too. Good players are going to pushblock you across the screen if you are doing L-M-H blockstrings.

+11 on hit and +9 on block, it’s seriously good in terms of frame advantage, almost like semi-lightning legs. I don’t like including it in combos though since it prorates the damage like crazy.

Also I think Morrigan players should practice whiffing j.S during tri jump. Most people will be expecting overheads from her since she’s better at attacking from the air, but a st.L right after her fake tri jump will catch them off guard and lead to a full combo. You can easily mix this up with an overhead, st.L, or Vector Drain H right after landing.

Some fun stuff when pairing her with a low assist:
Her upwards air dash can easily cross-up any opponent with j.H, and it’s a nice way to mix things up if the opponent is expecting a tri dash. If you call a low assist right before doing the dash, you can sandwich your opponent and time your attacks at the same time to set up an unblockable combo.

Also for opponents that you can’t combo after Vector Drain, you can play a nice wake-up game instead. If they roll forward after the grab, jump forward and they will initially roll past you. Call your low assist, and then airdash back. By the time the they get up, you’ll be in front of them again, and your assist will come out from the other side allowing you to set up another unblockable with j.H or j.M.

I agree with this. I have been doing this for quite a while now and it has really helped my mixup game, especially when calling an assist like Ammy’s Ice Shot or Dante’s Jam Session/Crystal. From the same height you can fake trijump with j.S, you can pull out a real one with J.H extremely low to the ground. It’s like mvc2 magneto trijump low. Then go into a full combo from there(I usually go into standing M right after to start the combo). Coupling this with the things you mentioned are very easy ways to open people up, especially in the corner.

Hello… Um if anyone from GA wants to help me with my Morrigan game that would be extremely helpful (I still don’t have a mic). Oh and with a team of Zero/Morrigan/Captain America is it bad that Morrigan has singlehandedly won most of my online matches and I’m not even good with her…

Well regardless what I wanted to ask is: I would like to learn how to best use Morrigan and I was wondering where I should start… I saw the combo thread but I don’t know if I should start there or here or where…

Depends on how you want to play. While combos are always good to have/know I really think people should work on her zoning more at first since her combos are pretty easy. Forcing them to come to you also forces them to make more mistakes which means more combos. Once you get comfortable with zoning use some of the mixups methods that have recently been mentioned to give your opponent a change of pace and a headache since he’ll always wonder what you’re gonna do next.

I miss Morrigan sort of. I haven;t played MvC3 in a couple days and last time I did I was making Zero technology to share with others. Besides that I been playing Morrigan in MvC2 aka “Big Boy Marvel”

I can semi zone… lol like I can throw fireballs, and air fireball, air fireball, fly, air fireball, air fireball… But I still can’t do any fly/unfly stuff… How should I zone with her?

Just updated the Combo thread with the fireball wall (idk what to call it) and also have some stuff on airdashing + command throws. Also, added some more character strats.

Yugi: Pretty much the fireball thing. Also use :f:+:m: since it reaches far, can catch people who like to airdash (as long as they’re not too high in the air) and on CH goes into a full combo from max range.

Edit: Try to learn her BnB combo if you don’t already know it.

Didn’t I put most of that stuff in the combo thread? If I didn’t, I’ll put it in there…

good info, ill have to work fake tri jumps into my game and baiting push block in general. also tested f+H as anti air (at least against dog.) seems like her best anti air

also, after training with a friend last night, i realized i need to take hsien ko out of the team and put in someone with an assist that can help me stay in on my opponent. (im thinking taskmaster)

Does Taskmaster have an assist that will help Morrigan stay in on an opponent? If you want someone with a an assist to lock down try Chun’s Lightning Legs, Ammy’s Ice Shots, Sentinel’s drones, or maybe Tron’s flame assist?Personally I think Hsien-Ko’s armored pendulum is great for staying in and getting a mixup on the opponent.

If your opponent is pushblock happy stagger your crouching light and standing light attacks while calling assist or go for command throw. If you realize your strings are being blocked, quickly end them with forward C so you can jump cancel before getting pushblocked away so you can have a chance to get back in quick. Also keep in mind that flight canceling at the right time will negate pushblock and your opponent will still be stuck in Advancing Guard Delay.

I would say Taskmaster’s horizontal shot is good for keeping pressure (I use him too <3). Most of the time with morrigan you’re going to be in the air. If you don’t super jump you can still call out assists so when you jump or in the middle of an air string just call him out. Even if they push you back those arrows (and push block stun) should keep the opponent in place long enough for you to get close again.

How do I perform a triangle jump? I’ve heard of them when I started watching MVC2 coverage last year but don’t know how they are done… Is it just jumping at a diagonal and landing with an air normal?

superjump then instantly do a down-forward or down-backward dash

Yup. Although the super jump is not completely necessary with Morrigan though.

Who would be better for Morrigan and Trish? Wolverine or Captain America?

I was playing her as well.

I did ok, got some wins and played well in casuals.

Im trying to make Morrigan work but I’m just going to end up going back to Storm.

Shes still a bootleg Magneto. Ryu with an airdash.

And I really wanted her on a team of mine. Maybe she just has no synergy with Trish, her assists do absolutely nothing for her.

Ammy B

Astral Vision.

Morrigan works well with most teams. She doesn’t have anything like hailstorm, but she’s got more options, though it takes time to work with.
