List of awesome ska bands (gonna need some help with this part) with recommended albums:

Streetlight Manifesto "Everything goes Numb"
Pain "Midgets with Guns"
The Specials "The Specials"
Catch 22 "Keasby Nights"
Madness "One Step Beyond"
Sonic Boom Six "Ruff Guide to Genre Terrorism"
Random Hand "Inhale / Exhale"
Dirty Revolution "Before the Fire"
Suicide Bid "The Rot Stops Here"
Spunge “Room For Abuse”

Will add more later, this is just to get the ball rolling. Streetlight at Tuscon was the nuts, if you can see them live.

Anything happen in the old one?

Just creating an official one. Rap and metal have, thought this one should have one too.

I feel obligated to get Reel Big Fish - “Everything Sucks” on the first page.

Their first full album I’ve heard was “We’re not happy 'till you’re not happy” which is ten kinds of awesome. Looking over all my music, I have seen more Ska bands live than I have albums by them. Big D and the Kids Table, The Toasters, Streetlight Manifesto, Voodoo Glowskulls, Less Than Jake. I’ve been trying to catch up to both genres and listen to all the good stuff, its a damn lot.

Will put it there, though.

I’ll suggest a couple of albums
Naked Raygun’s “Understand?” One of Chicago’s best punk bands if not the Best.
Agent Orange’s “Living in Darkness”. Old school surf punk 'nuff said

You have to have Sublime up there man. I know they arn’t strictly Ska but they do a lot of it and are a big part of building it’s scene in America. Also Pepper, and Long Beach Short Bus.

Also awesome topic. Was thinking of doing this after reading that Punk topic myself.

Pepper is awesome live, although more reggae than ska. They did a tour with Red Eye Empire (put on a sick show). Most retarded crowd ever, full of preppy kids moshing to ska to the point there were 3 or 4 different fights broken. Fucking crasiness.

Have to check out Long Beach Short Bus; haven’t heard of them.

Ska is the soundtrack to my life, keep it rude!

Streetlight Manifesto is my favorite ska band, I’ve only heard GNV FLA by Less than Jake. And I can’t get into sublime at all.

Guess I’ll check out some of the recommendations.

Turbonegro? Party Animals is a great intro to them but probably not the best.

Warsaw Poland Bros are amazing live. Up there with Streetlight Manifesto as far as shows go. Unfortunately the Albums aren’t as reflective of it. Superman Is Dead from Bali are awesome live. and if you are anywhere near Tuscon, need to know if the Swing Ding Amigos are any good. Picked up their album from a record store called Toxic Ranch that’s like a Mecca of punk; was able to pick up Slip it in and Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables in delicious LP forms.

Can’t forget Catch 22, “Keasbey Nights”

Fuck the Streetlight version. Though I love them too.

Swing Ding Amigos are cool.

Yeah, the only thing wrong with the Streetlight version is that the recording quality is better in every way. Aside from that, you know, not much else going for it. Listen to them side by side and you’ll notice the jump in quality.

i haven’t listened to bad religion in a long, long time. am i missing out?

I like the grittiness :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s what my girlfriend said (no joke, almost her exact same words when it came to the Streetlight/Catch debate). Needs more mentioning of local talent.

Debs: Yeah, Bad Religion is good stuff.

best thread title would be “polite and helpful rude boys”

also does anyone know where I find more infamous jake and the pinstripe mafia? They were my favorite band when I was in highschool, but they broke up and disappeared now I can’t even find a single song for download.
