The Punk/Ska Thread: Witty title pending

No Misfits? For shame.

I also dig Lars Frederiksen and the Bastards and NOFX.

@ZEROne I am surprised you didn’t list The Exploited

Here’s some top UK ska bands with my favourite albums from each.

Sonic Boom Six "Ruff Guide to Genre Terrorism"
Random Hand "Inhale / Exhale"
Dirty Revolution "Before the Fire"
Suicide Bid "The Rot Stops Here"
Spunge “Room For Abuse”

SB6 are pretty much my favourite band. Also on a relevant note since this is SRK, check out their SF2CE themed tee!

The Descendants plx?

yeah im not really into the misfits or the expolited anymore, i used to listen to them alot when i was in middle school/high school, i guess i grew out of them.

yeah im not

ZEROne, if you could post an album for each, it would be really helpful, its easier to guide people through albums (at least it has in my experience) than just saying here find some random shit. Also, lol at the shameless self promotion, still will check it out.

UNW4NT3D, will update later with the UK stuff.

lol i wasnt trying to promote myself, but yeah i posted a album for each band.

Updated first post and listened to your band. Most def would have to see you guys live, sounds like it would be one awesome show.

And for a local treat, band name is Fixed Idea:

Those guys are cool. Like their sound.

I think it would be a good idea to get a couple videos of bands songs for the Opening Post to get an idea of the band before buying them, or using the bandwidth on em…I dunno, just thought.

Random thought. Did anyone else find Streetlight’s 99 Songs album really…well, bad? I know they’re just covers but the song themselves are ass aside from Hell and Me and Julio.

I did; although to be fair, I have a strong aversion to covers. With this, most of the album is underwhelming; correction the entire album is underwhelming. They don’t do anything special with Hell that would make me want to listen to theirs more than the original. My girlfriend and I are split on the live version of linoleum: she didn’t like it, I did. Shit album really.

Need to start on finding videos for all the songs and you guys need to start posting some of your local stuff; I would love to know what other places sound like.

Recent bands that I just heard of that are cool (they probably have been around for a while but I am old and thus only really listen to my old punk stuff) are Chase Long Beach (ska) and Teenage Bottlerocket (punk).

Up da punx!

We don’t really have a ska or punk scene out here far as I know. My friend had a Ska band but they didn;t last very long and as far as I know they where one of the only ones.

Where you at Radiant?

Our local music scene is kinda whack: most of the decent venues shut down, leaving an array of shitty bars as venues. We also get a bunch of really shitty bands who are trying hard to be like other scenes. I would love it if our bands tried hard to be themselves as opposed to ride that Austin, TX dick. The only ones that do a good job of being part of the city are the punk and ska ones. Ciudad Juarez is supposed to have a pretty bitching punk scene; although I haven’t had a chance to cross over and check it out.

On the plus side, Lower Class Brats on the 21st, right before school starts:

Rebelution is more reggae than anything but they are great, “Courage To Grow” is the album to cop.

The Expendables - Gettin’ Filthy - Good album, mostly just the first half though. Bowl For Two is classic…

I first heard them in Terror Firmer, a Troma movie haha. Not bad…

Massachusetts. We have a lot of really shitty grunge bands, least from what I have seen and I dunno how to check out whats around.I mostly just go tolocal shows when I see a banner to check em out, listen to two songs I can barely decipher whats what and then leave. I’ll askpeoplearound what else there is to listen to but they just recommend more of the shit we happen to be attending at the time. Thank god for 5 dollar cover charges hahaha. Maybe you got some tips for me?

As bad as it is, navigate myspace and look for acts that are touring. Usually touring acts have one or two local openers, then you check on the openers and find more local stuff. Gotta navigate those networks to their fullest. There are punk websites but I haven’t thread them to see what their like. If you are lucky, there may be somebody already keeping tabs on shows. We got the El Paso Punk Show list, and if push comes to shove, the local ticket provider will have something good too.

Bumping the shit out of this because I got busy and stopped updating proper. Will start again soon.

Also, Misfits coming to town is Fuck and Yeah.

I envy you. D:
