Your idea was better than mine so let me mooch off of it.
Yea those companies mooching off of other peoples stories are assholes. Glad to see you agree.
ummm, welcome to the entire history of television, movies, books, and music since…ummm since they started making them.

Your idea is better than mine, so let me swindle you out of it and withhold it from anybody else’s use, including yours and anybody else who might be able to do something better with it than me, from now until the end of time.
If you sell it, that’s some tough shit on you. Shouldn’t have sold it.
-
Actually, most of the time people don’t sell it. They are swindled out of it by crooked corporations that have more money than you to fight you in the courts. You do realize the Schuster/Seigel battle against DC for the rights to Superman have been going on like nearly 3/4 of a century?
-
Yet again, shouldn’t matter if you sell it, make it for a parent corporation, or own a company and release it yourself. After 20 years, for ALL of human history, it’s been 100% fine to go into the public domain and the creator can do something else to make a living, rather than being a one trick pony. That is, until recently when mega huge corporations started arguing against it.
Ironically enough, even if Mickey Mouse goes into the public domain, you realize that Disney can still make Mickey Mouse cartoons, right?
Why can’t those who want to use Mickey come up with their own unique idea?
Ah, yes, the “blame the victim” argument. It’s your fault you got swindled/beaten up/raped/stolen from/etc.
You should have been smarter about contractual language/physically stronger/not a pretty girl in nice clothes/not someone who owns stuff and doesn’t keep it in an impregnable fortress/not alive in a world that contains assholes who do bad things to other people.
I mean, shit, man, no creative person who isn’t every bit as good with business as they are with creativity should ever bother creating anything, because if someone who is better with business than creativity comes along and screws them, *it’s all the creative person’s fault. *The value that such creations might have had to the world, be it in the arts, the theoretical sciences, or the applied sciences, is absolutely worthless compared to the right for smooth-talking psychopaths to make a buck off someone else’s misery.
Thank god that every creative person on this planet who has ever contributed something great to the world has been an equally adept businessman. It would be a shame if a hypothetical creative person who isn’t every bit as good at sniffing out underhanded business tactics as they are at creating great things could have had a fruitful, incredible career that enriched the world, but instead got hit early and hard by a malicious business dealing and had their ability to work in their creative field squeezed out of existence.
Thank god, man!
You want to blame a business for doing what a business does. It’s not their job to hire a lawyer for you or to give up money because you’re too stupid to do so.
I’ve never seen a more childish post on SRK than that one and that is one hell of a feat. They are not victims. They can always say no.
Why are Disney’s people (none of whom had anything to do with inventing or acquiring Mickey Mouse) so bereft of unique ideas that they have to keep throwing money at Congress to fuck with the laws?
I have never seen another poster so unwilling to accept that there are actually some scenarios in which monetary might does not always make right. I am 99% convinced that you’re a troll, but I engage you in conversation insofar as it is useful to consistently demonstrate why your line of thinking is wrong, asinine, and fundamentally anti-social. If everybody thought as you profess to think, society would have gone down in flames long ago because it is barely holding together as it is with an extremely small number of people who think that way. Also, your avatar is stupid and I have no idea why you didn’t just come up with a different design after the whole seizure thing.
And your momma is fat.
Because Mickey was made for Disney so he is with the rightful owner.
You cry so hard because someone else has a different belief than you it’s sorta comical. It comes off like some people I meet in my profession where they only support democracy if it works in their favor.
^Like you only support government if it works in your favor? :o
because maybe they can do it better. Just like with scientific and medical patents. Maybe we could make a better drug, or a better formula.
Maybe we could advance humanity.
No, Mickey was made by Walt Disney, who founded a company that used that character to profit. A man who had no problem with turning Mickey over to public domain. And then he died, and people take over his company, and run things while he is dead, and make decisions that he had no say in, because he is dead.
I’ve not yelled or became belligerent with any of you. I just gave my opinion.
I’ve obviously arrived too late to this thread, it’s gotten to the point where the person who is losing the argument has pulled the ‘it’s just my opinion’ card
Anyways, short copyright laws would force innovation from big companies. No more endless comic cycles from the big players. Sink or swim motherfuckers
Yeah ok guy.
edit@Sovi3t: Don’t pull the med/tech card on him. Obviously those inventors don’t deserve to keep their profits and inventions to themselves for eternity, because it’s “for the purpose of Science”. Yet everyone else does, and if you profit off non-tech/medical innovations or someone else’s previous hard work you’re a leech.
So basically he fully supports leeching off people or denying them eternal profits if it benefits him.
ok, so questions for you then:
So you’re saying the only way a work should join the public domain, something we’ve had no problem following up till now, is if a company stops using it or goes broke?
If a company stops using it or goes broke, what’s to stop another big company from bidding on it?
So now you’re advocating keeping profitable things only in the hands of rich people???
Most importantly, why do you advocate moving from a system that, up until now, was working 100%, and moving to this new drastic system that has yet to be proven to be able to succeed, and is now mired and riddled with lawsuits and patent trolls and everything else that has emerged from literally the exact fucking moment we started extending copyrights.
I am seriously debating making you the first person on any site I block Raz0r, you’re just too fucking mind numbingly retarded for me to even waste my time on. And that’s saying something considering how absolutely fucked up I am. Either you’re trolling eternally, or you are literally the dumbest fucking person in the world, and that’s including fucking Honey Boo Boo and some of the geniuses at Jackass and all of Florida. COMBINED.
^That last paragraph of yours would only empower him Sov, he’s not that important, relax.
Do it. You won’t make me cry.
Raz0r trollin’.
Raz0r been trollin’.
A black hole of trollin’ and poor souls keep crossing the event horizon.
Not as much of a troll job as when Hogan hugged Nash and Earth went “WTF?!”. Just waiting on the ring to get pelted with trash while Raz0r gets interviewed by Mean Gene.
