I actually agree… vega has a clear advantage in this matchup… his pokes are insanely high priority and the best you can do is stay out of his cr.mp range and try to counter poke with cr.mp of your own but that gets stuffed regularly… you can’t zone him because of walldives… focusing them could get you thrown… hope kick mixups on knockdown… and your u2 is useless… a well placed cr.lp or cr.mp can negate it and the ex horizontal dive ignores it completely… our spiral gets a hit confirm lp,mp,ex drop… i mean it’s hard… very hard… you have to be patient and poke out your damage and did i mention the roll he does stuffs 90% of our attacks… definantly in favor of vega
Just a general rule of the thumb though.
Shadaloo generally owns Rose.
Just generally!
I don’t seem to have these issues you guys mention… Of course I’m not playing against Tatsu or Johzear but I do play against pretty high level Vegas 12000BP and up. And yeah, he does have great reach with his footsies, but he has to take risks that you don’t. You can neutral his grab game with cs.mk so it really comes down to who can put what together. If you play better you win therefore I see it as even. Although as I mentioned before Vega can do lots of damage really fast. Its a thinking matchup… I dunno. I can’t disagree with you guys, because I acknowledge your valid points, its just I PERSONALLY don’t have those issues and thats all I care about…lol. I’ll be getting some games in today with some of the high level vegas from the Vega forum… I’ll report back what I find
Are you talking online vegas you know? Cause that’s not really enough to gauge.(outside of just general experience on what to do and not to do.) But I still say it’s a even matchup. It’s a footsie base matchup unless the Vega player decides to play ST Vega or something. which if it’s a ST vega, you better know how to punish wall dive mixups.
stay out of Vega’s fierce/cr.fierce range and punish his pokes with st.mk, cr.mp, st.mp. Once Vega gets knocked down, walk him to the corner and stay on top of him. He can’t do anything if he has no meter outside of flip or tech a throw. Either Ultra works. U1 autocorrects wall dives if he tries to hit you on the way up. U2 to keep Vega from trying to poke when you walk in. (Focus when the orbs are vertical.) but also means you’ll have to watch wall dives more carefully. Really depends on how the vega player plays and how confident you are in your skills for each ultra. Not really a hard matchup, just a matter of playing better poking and footsies than vega.
Why does Rog beat Rose? I’ve mained Rog for a long time and I cannot seem to get past her. I guess it’s just me. I have weird matchup opinions. I think Rog favors Chun and loses to Adon. Just weird shit I feel personally about.
But seriously, what is it that Rog does to beat Rose? Whenever I play her I get zoned to shit. I usually fare easily against characters like Ryu, Ken, Chun, Sagat, Gouken, and Guile; good zoners. But whenever I play Rose I get my ass beat.
Rog beats rose for one main reason. Jab. He can counter a lot of things that other characters just can’t. He can walk forward and just counterpoke you till you’re in a corner then put the pressure on. The Rog matchup gets real ugly REAL fast if the Rog knows how to move without dash punches. You have options to beat almost everything else, but he just makes things that you normally take for granted really hard. No back dash on wakeup, no well placed slides, you really have to play your best vs Rog just to lose close. I ran a set vs a good friend yesterday who has a footsie oriented Rog, and it GOT UGLLLLLLLY. I believe he won 10-2. Eventually it was quite demoralizing. This is MY hardest matchup. I’ll work on it. though. I would love to hear other people thoughts on this matchup. There were times I was doing max distance slides and still eating the jab of doom on hit.
Wow that’s crazy to think that because I always get raped by Rose.
Guess I’m just not handling the matchup correctly. I play a pretty big rushdown Rog, so maybe that’s what I’m doing wrong.
But it’s a 6-4 match up, no worse. Keno says it’s in Rose’s favor, but I don’t believe him.
Remember, Rose can’t deal with jumps better than the rest of the cast and Balrog needs to jump.
what Rose can do is zone and gain meter, but that’s pretty much it. She can kinda play a close game and try to frame trap the inevitable jabs, but that’s about it.
I COULD go down to about 5-5, but that’s pushing it as it’s really in Balrog’s favor given the tools that he has. Balrog’s jabs > Rose.
But then again, my training partner is a Balrog and I always try to out him, so that’s me knowing Balrog as extensively as possible.
Well, I feel this matchup SUCKS for Rose. jabs beat slides, jab/sweep beats bad slides… etc. 6-4 is the matchup in my opinion, but again, it comes down to the players, and understanding of the matchup.
I feel that Balrog vs. Rose is 6-4 Balrog as well. As Anton said, Balrog’s jabs pretty much stuffs anything Rose tries to do. It’s one of those frustrating match-ups.
hm. Well thanks then. That let’s me know my gameplay has been flawed. Now I know what to do, at least against Rose.
Rog can rush down rose for free with no fear of anything serious. Which is why it’s a bad matchup for Rose. I still don’t understand how people see this in Rose’s favor.
cr.strong>drill? Headbutt between drills beat that. Ex if they’re feelin themselves.
any unsafe drill or frame trap drill? jabs>headbutt>Ultra, or simply headbutt>Ultra.
once you’re knocked down, in the corner, rog has meter, or all 3, the match is pretty much a very steep hill.
Rog has a very easy time safe-jumping you and then continuing his pressure. his jabs, as said, make it so that you have to space very well. Every jab is like a reversal SRK, except that it’s nearly safe for him to miss.
… and his weird wake-up makes you miss a lot of things you shouldnt. Makes me think of Blanka and Adon in that way. You still have options, as his wake-up sucks, but you need to be aware of his hitboxes.
When people mirror my Rose because they want to prove some vague point, I usually pick Balrog once to teach them that playing Rose IS a skill. they learn quickly.
You meant to say that Rose CAN deal with jumps, right? Rog is one of the few characters I feel like cr HP works 99% on, of course not when its a safe jump. I do well in matchups where cr HP works, and I think I do badly in matches that it doesn’t. I honestly think if I did any match writeups, 50% of each one would be about cr HP.
Not saying that the Rog match is good, but I feel much better about Rose’s options there than other matches (dic and claw come to mind). Like fillipinoman said, I think the key is frame trapping the jab a few times so the other person starts doubting it. I think a well placed slide does beat jab, doesn’t it? Same with cr MK? Maybe that is only when frame trapping?
I just got a fightstick and copy of SSFIV for my Ps3 last night and I’ve been maining Rose on this one. Of the few Rogs that I did play, the ones that were good, I did notice that I had a difficult time going up against them. I’d say in general the matchup is 6-4 Rogs way. But I guess me personally it’s 5-5 because I seem to lose with whoever I’m using. Lol.
Well AAing Rog is not that hard, but if he changes j. hp to j. hk timing changes a bit, that is where the problem begins, cause one mistake on his jump-ins bets can cost you a lot if he has U1 charged up.
I think it is 5.5-4.5 in Rog´s favor, It could be pretty even, but Rog´s powerful Rushdown and high stamina makes the Rose player to be more nervous in general, Rog´s mistake cost but not as bad as Roses, that is where the table turns in my opinion, same goes with Gief(altough it could be 5-5 I guess)…but that is just in my experience and I´m not that good to be sure of my matchups point of view xD I still need to dominate safe-jumps and OS, maybe with that my offensive game may put the tables against Rog pretty even…I hate Gief EX glove xD so that is still 5.5-4.5 on Gief´s favor for me haha xD
Oh Come on! The matchup on Gief is modestly 6-4 advantage to Rose… he is too easy to zone and keep out for the whole game
Really? I mean I could understand it to be a 5-5 matchup…but advantage to Rose? How come? Consider that once Gief is inside hardly U2 gets you out on luck(50/50)…And he can punish your pokes with s. mp all day and react to your soul spark with EX glove…and you cannot be far away if you want to punish lariats for EX-bars…He also breaks past the lp SSparks with normal glove and closes the gap…the match its really even in my opinion…I just hate it because you cannot harm a lot and need to punish thousands of Gief mistakes…and EX glove can really be dangerous xD Still 5-5 is logical but on Rose advantage…I don´t get why really, good Giefs are hardly so easy zoned out with Rose.
This is only based from my experiences playing against gief. I’d say its 5.5-4.5 for me in rose’s favor. Maybe because all the giefs on PSN are ass, even the top PSN gief did minimal damage to me. I’ve yet to encounter a gief who’s gonna option select me to death, because i usually get out for free with an ex spiral once i get knocked down which is a rare occasion to begin with in my experiences, (i usually zone them out pretty good, since they are so slow to begin with)
That is exactly what I fear xD sadly I didn´t recorded the match nor remember the name…but I fought with a pretty monstrous Gief on endless some time ago…damn you simply can´t run away from the giant xD you just get knocked out again and again xD…I won him like 9 out of 22 or such…I won the ones I zoned him to death or the ones I had luck and ran away with U2(I don´t use U1 cause if he hits me it tends to be hard to run away so easily, so no chances to punish lariats or jump-ins…at least vs that guy xD)…I escaped and finished the work zoning him his last life points…and I also won some matches where I escaped his command grabs with EX spiral bets/escape jumps or EX soul throw bad crosses…but that´s it…he could simply take away all my life points quickly if he got in…and he filled on EX and destroyed some soul sparks on reaction with glove…he was kind of nasty yet still the fights were awesome…but he is the Gief that made me reconsider the match was 5.5-4.5 in his advantage…or at least 5-5…but I get what you mean Fury, I have beaten out most of the top Giefs I´ve encountered on PSN…dunno if its luck or its they don´t OS…Its the same as for Rog…most Rogs suck on the pressure or counter-poking timing…so I have won to a lot of Rog top players…but 2 or 3 nasty Rogs have made me hate his damn lp and meaty pressure xD and made me feel the match 5.5-4.5 or 6-4 on the boxer favor in my opinion.
Still it comes down to each player style too…so I cannot say I´m right on that xD…still for now Seth is 8-2 vs me with Rose xD gotta train that match soon xD and ElF´s too I feel I have the tools to really kick his ass…but I have yet to train with a nice ElF to time my defense and my offense against that hyperactive fighter xD
