Yes. I play some Hakan. It’s a great trick by the way.
How unsafe a slide is depends on distance. It has been tested, and there are even possibilities where Hakan could be at + frames on block with it. Most the time it’s mid to full screen. I think if Hakan does it any closer than that, it’s punishable when not FADC’d.
I don’t remember much specific, but beyond that, if Hakan knows his slide spacing pretty well, your best option is to either try throwing/tech throwing, backdash, or jump. Or you could mash on something to see if they didn’t do a safe slide.
Also, if you think they are trying to bait you by blocking an late slide, sc.mk will beat his ultra and punish it if he does an unsafe one.
Problem is, there’s alot of information about matchups in the Rose forum but they are spread out between different topics. If I have time I’ll try to collect everything and put the strats in one post.
Vs normal (not insanely good) Ryus, cr HP and absorbing FBs is usually enough. Then any bad SRK is spiral-super. The Ryus that give me trouble stay just outside of slide range and poke with normals/FBs. For those I try to stay out of the corner (push him away with a ex spark if you need) and backdash absorb or reflect a fb just to get him out of his patterns.
Personally vs Sagat, I think Rose loses max range even with reflect. I advance slowly on the ground (slide under high shots) and stay around poke/slide range. cr FP any jumps (I think trades are in Rose’s favor) and learn when you can punish blocked tiger knees. If you block the first hit of a knee blocking low, the second hit whiffs Rose and you can punish. Not really a strategy, but his FA can whiff on Rose’s slide, at least learn to recognize when it will happen so you can punish. Maybe you can try to exploit this (for lv3 FA timing) but probably not worth the risk.
I can’t think of any good Rose specific advice for Chun atm… Badly timed (non meaty) flip-over-kicks (df HK) you can backdash and throw. Don’t do any blockstrings when she has super. She can hit almost any non-wakeup jump with her df LK flip into U2, including most crossups, so look out for that. Cross up MK can beat her ex SBK pretty well, but that probably depends on the player a bit. If you hit her a couple times the player will probably get freaked out a bit and stop trying it giving you some free jumps.
so uhh… Is it actually a legit good strategy for Honda players to just spam butt slam over and over again? Cuz I fight a lot of Hondas online that do this shit and I was just wondering if they are fucking retarded or something.
Naw they’re just fucking retarded lol. There’s alot of ways to beat/avoid butt slams(backdash, focus against non-reversals, well timed c.fp, slide), but online Honda’s seem to love doing that shit.
Dude yeah. Online holds that fear over our heads that it just might lag slightly, and if you’re not blocking at a certain time, you’ll eat big damage, and then go on to get screwed on wake. no jump, or appropriate counter will save us. Even by playing safe, that’s still a lot of stupid free chip for Honda.
Yea I know how to avoid it and generally win against it, but I see it so often I just had to ask if this was actually considered “good” honda play lol. Thanks for answering the question though. Good to know.
Vs chun I just now realized that her hazanshu active hitbox is only on the ground. Like it pretty much looks like a standard shoto’s c.mk’s hitbox. Sooo, you can pretty much destroy the kick pressure with s.mk (close and far will hop over the active hitbox), or s.hk if you have a great reaction time.(close will knock her out of the air,far will go over her active hitbox and kick her in the face). I’m assuming this is old news, but it’s very helpful so far.
I may have one tip: use the down-back+LP+MP+LK+MK option select to tech throws against her. But I never played a -really- good Cammy so take it with a grain of salt.
There’s nothing to do against a good cammy, no safe way to get out of divekick pressure because OS only works on instant divekick, but if the cammy player is any good he is going to delay them a bit changing the timing and fucking the OS. You can’t back dash either because she can OS drill and u2 can get you out of the pressure, but it’s not enough, I choose u1 and wait for a bad spaced drill, nothing else really. I believe this is 4-6 for rose and I’m hoping arturo can give us something to try because I’m hopeless in this matchup.
