The Power of U2: SSF4 Rose Match-up Thread

That sounds very similar to how people sometimes deal with my Rose on wake-up. Seems point blank, EX Spiral is safe, or safer than when used on a person a bit further back. I haven’t gotten a lot of Bison experience in Super, but I think Bison can still be swept, or f.HK’d at punishable ranges too if you want to spare the meter.

what does “~” denote again? I thought for OS techs you had to press 3 buttons simultaneously?

And slightly off topic, but could Guile OS tech with df.HK for juggle potential into flash kick? Don’t really expect you to know, just curious about alternate AA since it may actually work in this iteration.

Anyone have a clue with dealing with Honda? I feel like I can’t do anything with his heabutts

It’s a slide input, it means you have to do it in rapid sucession(so push lp+lk immediately after c.hp). You can still push all three buttons at the same time though, either way will work.

Okay, when you’re far from him, use Sparks. They probably won’t hit unless your opponent is Headbutt crazy, but at the least it should stop him from using Headbutts to close the game instantly. This is not a good matchup for Rose simply because she can’t stop him from getting in, and once he does, you’re muffed. Best you can really do, grin and bear it when he’s doing his block strings, and backdash out of Oicho setups. EX Spiral any openings you can see, and for the love of god, be careful when he has meter. EX Headbutt is god.

The Dudleys you were playing didn’t play the matchup right at all. I main Rose but alt Dudley currently. Dudley’s main objective is to get a knockdown and play the guessing game with you (block, throw, overhead, hit low, continue a blockstring). He pretty much wants to get in your face to get damage because it’s the only way he can get damage.

If not then you’re playing a Dudley that is either trying to build meter (by going full screen and ducking a bunch of times but you should probably pressure him by throwing a few sparks) or you’re playing a Dudley that uses full screen MGB/EX MGB (Scrub tactic)

How am I supposed to play against gief? All I have figured out is I can do nj. hk to beat lariat most times.

I use st.mk and st.hk a lot to poke and keep him wary from coming in. cr.hp is good for stopping his jump-ins. Dashing in and going for a throw can work from time to time as well.

pokes, pokes and more pokes. use your sparks from a distance and even more pokes. soul plied kick and s.hk are your best bet. s.mk when he comes close.

lol Jae and his Soul Piede. :P.

But yeah, Soul Piede from a range. Soul Spark from far range. 50/50 him on wake up.

Take it from there. (Grabs beat everything that isn’t a 360 grab and st. mk beats the 360 grabs).

Alright cheers. I did try poking and it was working for the most part but then…
How do I play against him when he has ex cos he does ex green hand on me then I’m all mixed up! Even if I slide out of a cross up the spd will still get me during his mix ups.

So how do I deal with the ex hand threat?

You can grab him out of EX Green Hand if you can bait it out…

If he hits you with EX Green Hand, you have to guess right and gtfo of the “I’m down against Zangief” or activate Soul Satellite :].

space urself right so u can block the ex green hand, cr.hp spiral from there. i dont dare shoot fireballs midscreen.

Yomi: If Rose is moving out of mid-range, she is spacing soul spark. Generally Rose is not going to throw a fireball within jump-in range, so she will walk or backdash out of jump-in range and throw a fireball. Zangief will follow her by walking forward and reactively greenhand when Rose thinks she is safe from being jumped on and throws a fireball. If she insists on safe spacing before throwing a fireball, she will be walked into the corner, because Zangief will keep moving forward. Rose can’t jump on Gief.

Zangief wants to walk you into the corner and he doesn’t want you to throw fireballs, so he needs to walk forward. Pretend like you are fireball zoning and then Soul Pied, walk forward and Cr. MP, HK Soul Spiral, walk up to him and sweep. He will be easier to deal with if he has to stop and block and this is when you are allowed to throw fireballs.

It’s hard to win that way since you still won’t be doing much damage compared to what he can do. So it’s probably a good idea to have some good wake-up games vs Gief. And try to stay mid-range and able to anti-air him as much as possible.

It’s invincible but has poor priority when invincibility wears out. If you are spaced for whiffed greenhand and he is waiting/moving back and forth at that spacing, you can mash jabs occasionally at the correct spacing and tap him out of it if he tries to go for SPD.

wow read the forums instead of expecting us to compile all character specific information accumulated over the past months for you.

its srk, youre lucky to get anything decent out of anyone directly in any of these threads. i think this site was more helpful to me when i wasnt registered.

but seriously there are plenty of good threads in here to read and plenty of good rose players who took the time to post things on youtube im positive some of it will be new to you. i guarantee IF you came in with something specific ANYONE would have replied and thats the difference between your reply and some of the others. and comin back to whine about it doesnt help. im no mod so i should just shut up but i think people here like specifics.

im just bored and thought i would type this to save someone else the trouble but i cant stress it enough. there is so much info out there about rose and sf in general to keep you busy for awhile no matter what skill level you are. ive read plenty of dumb crap in these forums but sometimes its worth it to find a little gem of information that helps my game in certain situations.

but i guess i see where youre coming from since there is a SHIT TON OF GIEF MATCHUP TALK where all of these tactics are talked about. i agree it has to do with who are you on srk too but either way you said you looked but if youre still clueless on things to improve on you must not have read it so of course people will get annoyed with you.

as a side note it also may have helped if you left out the part about you playing fuetre since hes so stupid but can be annoying as hell for rose. :smokin:

EDIT: and what the fuck man, as i was brushin up some things i noticed others have offered advice to you before here. people were helpin you with guile and someone else, why so salty all the sudden?

Sorry Metro is just blunt like that. I doubt many people even read your post after seeing the Geif avatar… We Roses get trampled by Russian Bears lol. I wish I could have said something but I’m too noob to say anything. Plus I’ve onl ever been to one tournament where I used pad and played Sakura. I only won the first two fights. Sorry that things didn’t go great for you at that tournament. Care to tell the story of what happened in your tournament match ups?

This is one time i’m actually going to have to agree with Metro’s bluntness.

Your post probably got ignored because it’s about as wide open and vague as it sounds. You basically said “i’m new to Rose. teach me things.” in a matchup thread of all places. Getting mad over that and then coming back in said thread and saying it doesn’t really help your case.

First off, it’s best to start on actually fooling with Rose in training to get the general gist. (really should be doing this for any new character you pick up). From there, just read up on one of the sticky threads. (let me hold your hand like every other current new player these days, here, here, here). Work from there.

It’s nice and all to ask for help, but don’t expect to learn a buttload in a matter of days and expect it to help you greatly for a tournament days later. Especially when you’re asking a “help me learn Rose” in a character matchup thread. How do you expect to take in a buttload of info on character specific matches if you’re just switching over to her?

Don’t apologize for me. I’m not some rabid dog. I just think it’s bullshit when people think that they’ll get all their answers by asking for, and expecting them. Not like any of us deliberately ignored zangief2000, he just didn’t specify (as pointed out by 420syrup) what issues he has, or what his strategy is. Like really, how did he expect us to help? Say some random character specific thing as if that would change his performance in the tournament?

In all honesty, I got to where I am with Rose on my own (maybe not far, but I still know my stuff). I came to this website to theorize about match-ups with Rose even way back in the start of vanilla. I never asked for an abundance of charitable advice. If anything, I came here to give advice, and to get critiqued on it.

  1. You read it all and still felt it necessary to ask for advice?
  2. Advice and character specific “things” can be interchangeable. Tell us where you’re at before trying to make us tell you how to get there.
  3. You didn’t get flamed. You got told.
  4. Sorry about your crushing, but I’m not going to tell you how to play your Rose.
  5. There has been an explosion of Rose players since Super dropped, and just about any new one to this sub forum has asked for help in one way or another. I don’t really mind redundant questions being asked, but when there’s no hint to go off of, there’s no way to really help.

yes of course. Changing habits is never an easy thing. At first your play gonna get disturbed because you don’t know the ‘correct’ answer to each situation. But it is the only way to improve.
sorry for this uninteresting post  but As I trying to improved my game too, I have the same problems.

The more I see successful Roses play, the more I realize that Saqs is an outlier as far as style goes. No other Rose is really that aggressive, and it usually doesn’t lead to success with her.

If you’re just starting out, watch Sabin or Luffy’s videos.

Robot Rose play is basically slide, C.MP->HK Drill, backdash, then either S.HK or C.HP if they jumped. Rinse and repeat.
