I wouldn’t say the worst… it’s pretty quick and has some decent range. but hopefully the 2 hits in AE will change that.
Combofiend plays as guy in the excellent adventures l;atest episode and absolutely destroys some poor dudley player.
Funny as hell.

Thats the first time ive ever seen Kiryu land U1, crazy :looney:
Sadly, here’s the only video of my Guy play at NEC XI:

My friend has the worst luck when it comes to tournaments, and he brought it with him to NEC. In SSFIV singles, he was placed into the death pool. Anyway, this was our first match of the team tournament. I still hadn’t adjusted to the PS3 timing difference, so you’ll see me drop a lot of combos. Also, no color 7.

Spoiler
Noel is really godlike, and Justin made me look silly.
I played significantly better in the singles tournament and snuck my way into the top 32. I entered as “Real Life Bonus Stage” and was the Guy player in Pool A. I lost to Weak Sauce’s Sagat in the top 32 and then got blown up by Josh Wong’s E. Honda in our loser’s bracket match.
12:51 brought profound sadness. I wanted to see that perfect so bad.
I got excited when I saw the dizzy. I wanted to see that perfect too.
Good shit Streak! Above everything you showed really good patience and solid defense against Noel. You didn’t just HP bushin flip in as soon as things got bad and hope for luck.I guess the east coast is really ‘lame’,even the Guy players?Lol.
The blockstrings and everything were tight and you went for some good counter hit setups.Noel didnt bite but you still won due to solid spacing of cr.hk,good anti airs and good use of run slide and overhead.Nice clutch in the last round too,I thought you were gonna lose that one but you made a good comeback under the pressure of the timer.
I wouldnt worry about the justin match.Justin himself wasnt doing anything godlike, the Rufus matchup is just a bit fucked for Guy.You have to keep Rufus out but Guy has no pokes or zoning with normals really.Rufus can just jump all over you with dive kicks and you have no answer for it.You can only rush him down when he has no meter because cr.jab x2,st.strong is not a true blockstring and he can mash EX messiah through the st.strong part. How can you mash through Guys blockstring starter? At least you tried crouch teching with cr.strong at one point, thats the only help I can really give you with the Rufus matchup because EX BSK against Dive kicks can be baited easily and doesnt really work against Rufuses who safe jump.Find a Rufus to play against regularly and you’ll probably find some stuff out to help, the one I play against (offline) beats me down 70% of the time but at least I know more about the matchup.I can’t believe I posted months ago that this match was in Guys favour lol.
Divekick - cr.mp, cr.mk, ex spin, m spin (?), cl. hk.
Decent amount of things to defend against dives. Theyre all spacing dependant though.
don’t forget about far st. fierce and TK izuna… nj. rh can work from time to time.
Thanks. Lately, I’ve been just trying to keep my cool and not doing random, unsafe stuff like HP Bushin Flip or full screen Run > Anything when the outcome of a round wasn’t looking too good. I have a Vega player here at school (totally different playstyle than Noel and not as good), so I knew that comebacks against Vega are always possible.
Before leaving for NEC, I played against that Vega player, and I noticed that HP Bushin Flip was always catching Vega after a whiffed EX Wall Dive when it was used to get out of the corner. That’s why you saw me throwing out HP Bushin Flip everytime Noel did EX Wall Dive to get out. I guess my timing was still off.
I really don’t think the Rufus is match up is that bad, but it’s difficult to get that match up experience because nobody plays Rufus. The scene here at school is already small, but even online, you almost never run into him. I’ve been trying to figure out the timing for the cr.MP OS tech throw against dive kick characters for the longest time, but I still haven’t done so. I wish there was a video for that somewhere.
Anyway, I have some Bushin Flip setups (err, gimmicks) that I wanted to keep under wraps until after NEC, so I’ll probably put up a video later this week.
oh yeah guys by the way for those of you that have facebook i made a page on it called “The Gnosis Empire” i will have updates on things i have discovered in SSF4, sometimes well im hoping alot of times there will be videos and also a variety of other things people are just generally into and have lack of knowledge of. So if you have facebook please check it out also add me my user name on facebook is “Jago Margqulius shinszengate”
Haha,I thought that was the real Andre for a second, whats he doing the Guy section? Then I looked at his post history and hes apparently posted that in every other character forum lol.
at the end of the 2nd round… did any one else think the empty jump looked ambiguous as hell? i mean it was an empty jump cr. short… but i still couldn’t tell what side he was gonna land on.

Yep that’s a useful one, Forward Grab, dash, dash, fw jump into low lk. I really dislike Guy’s low lk though.
That run stop pressure in the first round is ridiculous and it’s what makes Guy so fun to use. The Cr. LK setup from Kiryu is great too. Guy’s got some great options after a knockdown. I remember being upset at Guy’s floaty jump when I saw it in a video around March, but once you get used to using it, it’s one of his best weapons IMO.
As promised, I’ve posted the Bushin Flip setups that I use onto my YouTube account:

At NEC, I successfully landed Setup #1 and #3 in the tournament. I didn’t try Setup #2 because I didn’t think I could get a Bushin Flip after the Forward Throw > Dash Twice setup. I did try Setup #3 in my match against Noel, but I messed up the timing. Remember, whenever you’re performing a Bushin Flip in any of the above situations, you’re taking a huge risk. These gimmicks are tricks and shouldn’t be used very often. It’s important that you switch up your options.
I’ve also posted a mixup using Guy’s back throw and Run > Overhead:

All explanations can be found in the descriptions for each video. If anyone still has questions, feel free to let me know. I’ll try to re-explain everything if needed.
Oh yeah, obey562 with that super quick comment on Bushin Flip Setup #3.
Good stuff streak, I like the corner setup.
I also like that you’re well aware that these are strictly gimmicks (usable ones, but still gimmicks).
Well, it better become your best friend in AE. 3 frame c.short is gonna be hella useful.
In the Back Throw+Run>Overhead mix up, what exactly do you use to affect which side you land on?
Good shit, especially the ones that don’t utilise Ex Flip. These are the things that you might know are there, but you really need to force yourself to do when you know that you’ve conditioned the opponent into blocking.
One of my biggest weaknesses is that I tend to safe jump 90% of the time and my opponents all know just to block. Flip-grab is a legit mix up that keeps them honest.
This.
I’d also really recommend that anyone who doesn’t do so already practice plinking cr.LKs (c.LK~c.LP+c.LK). It’s the best way to ensure that you get the cr.LK at the earliest possible moment, say after an elbow drop. Also, it option selects a crouch tech after your crouch short, so it’s overall just going to be a great move to spam on defence. (If the opponent throws you just before you hit crouch short, you’ll tech. If his throw grabs you in the start up frames of your crouch short, you’ll still get grabbed though.)
