ah you let that blanka upball too many times.
that thing is punishable on hit.

was messing with hondas wake up and came up with this

Honda cannot throw you. the only thing he can do is ochio and late ultra2
but you can neutral jump if you anticipate the throw.
the good thing about it is that he cannot headbutt

New matches against a friend who plays guy aswell.
He is pretty good, but he had some issues playing on PSN, cause he plays normally on xbox live.

Man Riso I need some Guy coaching on PSN bad! I was stomped on last night bad mostly because Ive been playing two weeks and suck…
Hi all, here’s a match of me vs. Chocoblanka/Gamerbee/Momochi.
I got raped by Momochi…his footsies were too godlike. It was interesting to play a bunch of people with Guy. I got to see how hard a lot of his matches truly are. I played against starnab, and he was destroying me with the rekkas…that was interesting to fight.
Anyhow, enough of my prattling, here’s the link:
yo combofiend…first time i’ve seen you post in here. good fei’s give me problems. i feel like any character who’s got a really strong ground game gives guy problems. i got raped by a friend of mine’s fei a while back… i couldn’t find a way to prevent him from doing rekkas so freely. i think i knocked him out of it once with cr. forward… but it wasn’t intentional.
on a side note… just out of curiosity… why did you run abel instead of guy at BOTB?
thanks for posting combo fiend. you know we’re all gonna steal that nj.elbow against blanka in the corner lol
yo man good stuff. Was watching most of your matches with Guy. I saw what I thought was an OS cr light kick into EX hazanto --> FADC into Ultra 1 against a Rose when you were playing on the stream setup… she was close to the corner and you punished her back dash on her wakeup. too gdlk…
Lolwhut?! Combofiend actually posting on Stupid Retarded Kids? (Trademark Sabin)
Anyhow, great matches and it’s always fun to watch you playing Guy. You play really straightforward and aggressive, great stuff.
Edit: For everyone, who missed it, Trial 24 in action:

Hi all, I do post here occasionally as this is where I did start. Anyhow, I didn’t option select, as I’m no good with that whole thing, I just try to react. I noticed pungza backdashed a million times and instead of sweeping him and punishing it earlier on, I kept letting him do it so when I needed to take a quick 45% I’d have no problem doing so.
As for running guy at both the BOTB and at my invitational, the reason was simple…Vangief. I had played him a few weeks prior in person and ran a set with him. I have never felt a match was so hopeless before. There was nothing I could do so stop his jab 360’s. Slide…360, shoulder…360, whiff any button that’s not Roundhouse…360, and even if I hit s.rh, he’d just do c.jab into ex green hand for the win. I’ve never felt so overwhelmed and thought a match was so unwinnable that I’d have to play abel just in case I fought him. I have however relented on my thought since then and I think I’ll just stick to Guy. He’s waaaaay too much fun.
Good shit peter for sticking with him!Just watching that video from SBR,you play a really interesting style with Guy.I think you’ve inspired me to use toward+mp overhead more.
I don’t think any of us on the Guy forum really consider Zangief a bad matchup but then again I don’t think any of us have played a gief of vances caliber.Maybe use more cr.strong,as both a poke and an anti air, in the Gief matchup? Also I noticed against Gamerbee you picked U1 which has less potential than U2 in that match. With U2 you can punish deep jaguar kicks and all jaguar tooths on block. There were a couple of times you could have landed it against him but if Gamerbee is aware of this (im sure he is because RB’s Guy does this to him all the time) then it shuts down the whole jaguar kick pressure game because he wont wanna get hit by that.
I posted my thoughts on your Guy in the general discussion thread seeing as your one of the only top players really representing the character in the USA this deep into the games release. What do you think of Kiryu Tsukimiya’s Guy(assuming youve watched his videos)?
Arcade edition is gonna improve Guy so much.I hope you’ll still main him!Maybe if Rolento is in you’ll have to switch?
DAMN that sucks about Gief! I haven’t had the uh…“pleasure” of playing a great Gief just yet. I’ve sparred with some good ones online, got knocked around by a few offline but they were just good. I tried to stick with Guy only man, but E. Honda has really changed my mindset when it comes to tournies. I’ve picked Gouken back up and run with Guy primarily and Gouken secondarily at tournies, almost entirely b/c of Honda. Good shit sticking with Guy and great matches.
@combofiend-ah, i figured there was some one in norcal that gave you reason to not use guy. you gonna be attending KS2 again this sunday?
@cheech-cr. strong doesn’t work too well against gief. his j. fierce beats it out clean. i think cr. strong only works against certain jump ins with gief. i played a friend’s gief about a week ago and learned that the hard way. ate a few j. fierces in the face.
Yeah I know its ass against jump fierce. What anti air is best for that?Cr.forward?I’ve been meaning to test anti airs against him.
I still think cr.strong is a good poke/footsie tool against him though. It beats his st.forward and a few other things I forget.
nope cr. forward gets beat out too. guy’s normals aren’t too viable as anti air against gief from what i’ve learned. what i do is i try to hit him out of the air on his way up with st. rh or st. fierce. st. fierce is great against gief. you can use st. rh as anti air… but it will trade a lot of the time… but hey… at least it gets gief off of you. problem with that is… the trade isn’t in your favor due to gief’s high stamina. but i do agree that i use cr. strong a lot as a footsy tool… not just in the gief match up… but in general. it’s speed is great for hitting whiffed limbs.
I posted months back that I consider Zangief one of Guy’s hardest match ups after playing Japanese Zangiefs on PSN. Then people starting saying stupid shit like “No, lol armour cancel bushin leap beats all his mix ups, lol”.
SRK, I swear.
i’d have to agree… gief is a pretty tough matchup because guy’s normals aren’t good enough to keep him away. you do pretty much anything that’s not st. fierce, st. rh, st. forward… and you’re gonna take damage. gief’s jump arc is so small you can’t really TK izuna him on reaction, you have to be looking for it.
after playing my friend’s gief… who doesn’t main him(although i’d consider him a secondary for him)but has been playing grapplers for years… i had to play the way i remember seeing alioune fight gief which was… st. fierce all day…back myself into the corner… fierce bushin flip to get out of the corner. after a while though he caught on and would bait them and either jump back once he had me cornered so he’d be next to me when i’d land… or he’d neutral jump and headbutt me(which is way worse).
the matchup is no doubt in gief’s favor… throw in good footsy tools and you’re in for a tough match.
lol i love how everyone says gief is an even matchup, then combo comes in and says its hard, and everyone nut rides. everyone is entitled their own (fairweather) opinion i guess
… If Gief is in the air… cr mp or st hk. It may not be TK Izuna but it works 95% of the time,

Kiryu Loses sure, but fighting Gief safely really pressures him and all you need to do is keep him out, which isn’t that hardest thing in the world compared to other characters, Go for crossups when they are completely safe, ease through the match up, Throw out safe distance pokes, and make sure to properly time them, just watch out for EX hands and dash in Super/Ultra. I honestly suggest using the Ultra you are most comfortable with in this matchup. But just remember U2 beats out Giefs U1 if it is activated before Giefs.
